Description

Up until 1875, baseball players didn't even use a glove when playing defense. In the late 1800's, players began using fingerless gloves on both hands, and it wasn't until 1919 that the idea of a "web" was even suggested. Unlike with bats, there are rarely innovations in the glove industry these days that really revolutionize the game. This season, Rawlings will change everything. Introducing the REVO Series player specific gloves from Rawlings. Featuring Solid Core Technology, these gloves eliminate traditional lining, and instead use layers to cater to how a player catches the ball based on position and personal preference. These layers, combined with the absence of heel and palm lacing, result in a glove that is naturally easier to close and less time consuming to break in. The REVO design creates a preformed pocket that gives players a better feel and enhanced grip of the ball, giving new meaning to the phrase "fits like a glove". Rawlings has divided these REVO gloves into three categories classified by pocket depth: Deep, Standard, and Flat. This particular model is part of the REVO 950 Series and is made from high quality oil-tanned, Pro Select shell leather with deer tanned cowhide leather lining. The Deep 130 degree pocket on this glove breaks in from thumb to ring or little finger, and is tailor-made for players that catch the ball one-handed. With a Modified Trapeze Web and a conventional open back design, this 11.50 Inch model allows for unparalleled control to snag balls in the infield. Rawlings: Redesigning Defense. Free Shipping!

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Rawlings REVO 950 Series: 9SC115CD? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

is the leather on this glove better than the heart of the hide gloves? black falcon
Both use high quality leather. The 950 will be easier to break in than Heart of the Hide gloves. I wouldn't say one's better than the other as both are very durable and have been proven to last a long time.
Tyler
Would this glove be big enough for outfield for an 13 yr old? He plays middle infield and third but may play some outfield. boss
The 9SC115CD would be big enough for an infield and outfield player.
Kara
Does this glove compare to more of a Heart of the Hide or Pro Preferred? walk off king
The Revo 950 gloves will be more comparable with the Heart of the Hide gloves than the Pro Preferred gloves.
Tyler
Will this glove fit an adult hand? Frank
Yes. The Rawlings REVO 950 Series is meant to fit an adult hand. Unless it is noted as a "youth" glove in the title, it is classified as an adult glove.
Jennifer
With the REVO are you trading performance for a quicker break-in when comparing to the pro-preferred series? kwj
No, quality is no sacrificed. The Rawlings REVO 950 Series still features high quality leather known to be very durable.
Tyler
Do you think a 10 year old can use this, or will it be too big and heavy? Matt
At 11.50", the Rawlings REVO 950 Series: 9SC115CD would be a good option. I would also recommend looking at a youth model since they will feature a more narrow wrist opening and finger stalls. We offer a 100 day guarantee on all our gloves, if you are not satisfied you may send it back for a refund or exchange.

I am concerned about the laceless heel and palm. Can you tell me the difference in feel between conventional lacing and this? jmorrispsu
The Rawlings REVO 950 Series: 9SC115CD will fell similar to the Rawlings gloves with conventional lacing. The Rawlings REVO 950 Series: 9SC115CD will be easier to open and close because it has less lacing in the palm.
Kara

About the Brand

Rawlings is a major manufacturer of competitive team sports equipment and apparel for baseball, basketball, and football, as well as licensed MLB, NFL, and NCAA retail products. Rawlings is a major supplier to professional, collegiate, interscholastic, and amateur organizations worldwide, including the Official Baseball Supplier to Major League Baseball.

The first real innovation in glove making occurred in 1912 when Rawlings Sporting Goods Company introduced the "Sure Catch" glove, which was "endorsed by leading players all over the country." The Sure Catch was a one-piece glove with sewn-in finger channels and looked better suited for a duck's foot than a man's hand. Catchers' mitts used at the time were large and bulky with a single leather thong passing for a web.

In 1920, Bill Doak, a journeyman pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, approached Rawlings with an idea for improving the baseball glove from a mere protective device to a genuine aid in fielding. The "Bill Doak" model was so revolutionary that it stayed in Rawlings' line until 1953. Its key feature was a multi-thong web laced into the first finger and thumb, which created for the first time in baseball's young life, a natural pocket.

In 1925, Rawlings unveiled a three-fingered fielder's glove, and ten years later improved the Bill Doak model with a two-piece leather web. At the same time, the "T" web became a rage for first basemen's mitts. The pocket underwent a pronounced change in 1941 when the Trapper Mitt, also known as the Claw, appeared. The "Deep Well" pocket was so unique that Rawlings quickly patented it. The design was improved in 1950 by adding a leather piece across the top. Another significant creation occurred in 1948 with the three-fingered Playmaker. A five-fingered fielder's model, with all fingers laced together, provided greater pocket control.

The six-fingered Trap-Eze evolved in the 1960's. In more recent years, Rawlings produced the Fastback design, which gives a glove a snugger fit, greater extension, and overall control. The Holdster is a slot through which a finger can be extended for additional protection from impacts on the pocket. Then, there is the Edge-U-Cated Heel with its extended U-shaped lacing and the Pro H Web and much-copied Basket Web.

Some of Rawlings's more recent glove innovations also include the unique Spin-Stopper design which reduces ball spin when the ball hits the glove, and the Cantilever glove design feature that provides a cushioned area between the hand and the glove's palm area. In all, Rawlings has produced and patented more functionally innovative glove features and designs than that of any other glove manufacturer. The result is that the modern baseball glove is much larger, more comfortable, better padded, and made to last far longer than its ancestors. It is not uncommon to see today's Major League players wearing the same Rawlings glove they wore during their college playing days. In fact, Rawlings is the #1 glove in the major leagues. Rawlings maintains about 65 models of baseball and softball mitts and gloves in its line. The prototypes of virtually all of them have been field-tested by professionals before entering a sporting goods dealer's inventory.
