Description

Rawlings Heart of the Hide R2G 11.75" Baseball Glove: PROR205-4T

Hit the field with pro-grade quality this season. As part of Rawlings' Heart of the Hide series, this R2G glove is crafted from center-cut portions of leather pulled from the top 5% of Rawlings' hide stock. This ultra-premium steerhide is thicker and more durable than most other leathers, offering players a custom-molded fit and the toughness needed to compete at the highest level. This glove has a firm feel out of the box, but shapes easily and feels soft and supple. With a handsome, tan-colored shell, black embroidery and Rawlings's signature black and red logos on the cuff, this glove has a classic look that will outlive the passing trends.

Glove Benefits

For this Heart of the Hide R2G model, Rawlings selected a versatile combination of features. It is built on a 205 series pattern. By adding a modified Trap-eze web and 11.75" profile, however, Rawlings also made this glove a strong choice for both infielders and pitchers. Available for both right and left handed throwers, this glove features a simple, reliable hand opening enclosed by a conventional back. Also, be sure to note the Contour Fitting that allows for narrow and lowered finger stalls, an adjusted back opening & smaller wrist opening.  Contour Fitting should allow younger players and older players with smaller hands to start using the Heart of the Hide gloves.

Great for my 13 year old Allen Parent

Pros: Great leather, great pocket. He loves it and does very good with it.

Cons: Came very stiff. Be ready to break it in. But once we got it broke in it has been great.

Just as I expected Anthony Neeley Coach

Pros: Easy to break in. It was right at game ready. 2 or 3 good rounds of catch had it where I needed it. Very good quality.

Cons: I wish they wouldn’t cut some of the heal padding out to get it to R2G status. I hope it will hold its shape for a while without the stiffer pad.

Rawlings heart of the hide R2G Nick Parent

Pros: Well made glove

Cons: A lot stiffer than advertised The minimal padding is not good. Wish they didn’t cut corners on the padding

Great glove J. Parent

Pros: Quality construction. Comfortable fit.

Cons: None really - just know that despite the Ready 2 Go name it still needs quite a bit of mallet work, hot water and continued games of catch. But after 1-2 days of that it was usable. My son loves it and feels like after a week of practice he can use it in a game.

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Rawlings Heart of the Hide R2G 11.75" Baseball Glove: PROR205-4T? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

I have a 12 year-old son. He mostly play's first and has a first baseman's mitt already. I’m looking for a utility glove that he can pitch with and occasionally use in the outfield. Would you recommend this glove for that Mitch
Yes this glove is a great option, it will have a more narrow fit designed for players that age.
Ryan
My grandson is 9 years old. He is a pitcher and outfielder. Would the Contour size be good for him or does he need a Youth Pro Taper? John Bates
The youth pro taper model would be the smallest fit from Rawlings and would most likely be the best option for a 9 year old player. This Rawlings Heart of the Hide R2G 11.75" Baseball Glove: PROR205-4T would be a good infield glove/OF option for players 11-13 seeking a higher end model. It can also be used for infield play at 13+ years of age for those seeking the smaller hand fitting.
Cameron
How wide is the opening for the hand? Ed Cooke
The Rawlings Heart of the Hide R2G 11.75" Baseball Glove: PROR205-4T features a 6.5 to 7 inch wrist opening.
Cameron
I’m a 14 yo OF and I have smaller hands, can I use this in the OF? Nolan
The Rawlings Heart of the Hide R2G 11.75" Baseball Glove: PROR205-4T is better suited for infield play or by a pitcher. For a 14 year old OF we would recommend a glove at 12.50-12.75 inches.
Cameron
will this be big enough for a 13u outfeilder jack
In terms of size, yes the 11.75" glove is big enough for a 13u outfielder. The finger stalls and wrist openings should fit the teenage hands and maybe even some adults.
Leeah

No, the Rawlings Heart of the Hide R2G 11.75" Baseball Glove: PROR205-4T does not feature an adjustable wrist strap.

About the Brand

Rawlings is a major manufacturer of competitive team sports equipment and apparel for baseball, basketball, and football, as well as licensed MLB, NFL, and NCAA retail products. Rawlings is a major supplier to professional, collegiate, interscholastic, and amateur organizations worldwide, including the Official Baseball Supplier to Major League Baseball.

The first real innovation in glove making occurred in 1912 when Rawlings Sporting Goods Company introduced the "Sure Catch" glove, which was "endorsed by leading players all over the country." The Sure Catch was a one-piece glove with sewn-in finger channels and looked better suited for a duck's foot than a man's hand. Catchers' mitts used at the time were large and bulky with a single leather thong passing for a web.

In 1920, Bill Doak, a journeyman pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, approached Rawlings with an idea for improving the baseball glove from a mere protective device to a genuine aid in fielding. The "Bill Doak" model was so revolutionary that it stayed in Rawlings' line until 1953. Its key feature was a multi-thong web laced into the first finger and thumb, which created for the first time in baseball's young life, a natural pocket.

In 1925, Rawlings unveiled a three-fingered fielder's glove, and ten years later improved the Bill Doak model with a two-piece leather web. At the same time, the "T" web became a rage for first basemen's mitts. The pocket underwent a pronounced change in 1941 when the Trapper Mitt, also known as the Claw, appeared. The "Deep Well" pocket was so unique that Rawlings quickly patented it. The design was improved in 1950 by adding a leather piece across the top. Another significant creation occurred in 1948 with the three-fingered Playmaker. A five-fingered fielder's model, with all fingers laced together, provided greater pocket control.

The six-fingered Trap-Eze evolved in the 1960's. In more recent years, Rawlings produced the Fastback design, which gives a glove a snugger fit, greater extension, and overall control. The Holdster is a slot through which a finger can be extended for additional protection from impacts on the pocket. Then, there is the Edge-U-Cated Heel with its extended U-shaped lacing and the Pro H Web and much-copied Basket Web.

Some of Rawlings's more recent glove innovations also include the unique Spin-Stopper design which reduces ball spin when the ball hits the glove, and the Cantilever glove design feature that provides a cushioned area between the hand and the glove's palm area. In all, Rawlings has produced and patented more functionally innovative glove features and designs than that of any other glove manufacturer. The result is that the modern baseball glove is much larger, more comfortable, better padded, and made to last far longer than its ancestors. It is not uncommon to see today's Major League players wearing the same Rawlings glove they wore during their college playing days. In fact, Rawlings is the #1 glove in the major leagues. Rawlings maintains about 65 models of baseball and softball mitts and gloves in its line. The prototypes of virtually all of them have been field-tested by professionals before entering a sporting goods dealer's inventory.
