Pros: This glove is very nice. I was very nervous about buying this glove because i had no clue what the flare models were like. I also thought the mesh was going to be uncomfortable but very comfortable instead.

Cons: The only thing that was even close to a con about this glove was that it looked a smaller when i first took it out the box.

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Louisville Slugger TPX Silver Slugger Flare Series: FL1154SS? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

is this glove as soft as the shoeless joe glove DJ
The leather of the Louisville Slugger Flare Series will be harder more stiff than the Shoeless Joes.
Rickie
does it take a long time to break in and how should i break it in? phenom pitcher
This is made with oil-infused leather and a mesh back, so using glove oil isn't 100% necessary. I would recommend about 10 - 12 sessions of catch over the course of a few weeks. In between sessions you can put a ball in the glove and wrap the glove with some rubberbands. This will help form the pocket. You can also get a wooden mallet (featured in our glove care kit) that you can use to pound the pocket of the glove while you're watching TV or if you can't make it outside to play catch.
Josh
Does this glove already come with the flare shape or do u have to form it yourself Heat!!
This glove is manufactured with the flare feature. No work is needed on the player's part.
Brett
Will the glove be broken in when u get or will u have to take alot of time to break it in urself Dj
This glove will take a little bit of time to break in. You may have to work with it for a week or so.
Brett
if i am going to use glove oil with it what do you think would work the best with this glove? joe
Louisville Slugger actually has their own glove cream/oil that is designed to be used on their gloves. That would be my suggestion.
Mark
would this glove or the ofl1150 be a better coice for a 15 year old sophmore who plays mostly shortstop and third? Golden Corral
The FL1154SS is made with higher quality leather and it features a mesh back that will make it a little lighter in weight. The OFL1150 is a great glove, but a notch below the FL1154SS in terms of quality. The OFL1150 will be a little easier to break-in compared to the FL1154SS. Other than that, the gloves will be the same and the decision is up to you.
Mark
I am a 15 year old high school infielder, how does this glove stack up against the A2K0BBG1796B? DJ3K
This glove will be more game ready compared to the A2K. The A2K has a more stiff feel and will take some time to break in.
Kris
Is the flare design good for infielders mainly ss and third? JacobProvencher
Yes. The flare design gives the player a little more range and allows the ball to be quilcky pulled from the glove to make faster plays. This is a very durable glove and will hold it's shape many seasons.
KG
My 7 yr old son wants this glove, any way he can use it to play? Erika
This glove may be too big for a 7 year old. Check out some of our youth models for that age.
KG
What is the main difference between this and the FL1151SS? My son plays IF, OF, and also pitches on his team. He currently has the Mizuno 11.25 MVP Prime. What would you recommend between the FL1151SS and the FL1154SS? KT
The FL1154SS is a modified trapeze web and would be good for a multi position player. The FL1151SS is a diamond web better suited for an infield player.
Kara
Is this a good glove for a pitcher? rj
Yes the Louisville Slugger TPX Silver Slugger Flare Series would be a great choice for a pitcher.
Nick
How deep is the pocket? Can I compare this glove pocket with the Rawlngs Revo 130 deep pocket? Jerry
The Louisville Slugger TPX Silver Slugger Flare Series: FL1154SS will have a deep pocket depending on how you decide to shape your glove.
Tom
Is this a good glove for a 2nd baseman in college? smo
Yes. An 11.5 inch glove is good for a 2nd baseman at the collegiate level. The FL1154SS is a great glove.

About the Brand

In 1842, J. Frederick Hillerich emigrated with his family from Baden-Baden, Germany to the United States. Eight years before, the 1834 Book of Sports had made its debut as the nation's first publication covering baseball. But when he arrived in Baltimore, J. Frederick Hillerich would never have dreamed of the future impact his family would have on America's favorite pastime.

After a short while, the Hillerichs moved to Louisville, where J. Fred started a woodworking shop in 1856. Two of his sons, Adam and John Andrew "Bud" were born in the United States and would later join their father in his business. By 1864 "J.F. Hillerich, Job Turning" was in operation and filled orders for businesses by custom-turning everything from balusters to bedposts.

The firm thrived, and by 1875 the little woodworking shop employed about 20 people. In 1880 Bud Hillerich, who was an amateur baseball player, became an apprentice in his father's shop. Young Bud made his own baseball bats along with bats for several of his teammates.

The debate over the origins of the first bat continues to generate controversy among baseball enthusiasts, but the younger Hillerich was most certainly involved in getting his father's business involved with what would become the company's signature item. According to company legend, the first bat was turned by Bud for Pete "The Old Gladiator" Browning in 1884. Browning was a star on Louisville's professional American Association team - the Eclipse. On a spring afternoon Bud, then seventeen, witnessed Browning break his favorite bat. Bud offered to make a bat for his hero, and Browning accepted. After the young wood shop apprentice lathed a quality stick from white ash, according to the story, Browning got three hits with it in the next game.

Louisville Slugger gloves are worn by more pitchers in Major League Baseball than any other glove.
