Pros: Great leather! Nice color.

Cons: takes awhile to break in. Web is too stiff for infield play. Kind of an outfielder's, who likes a smaller glove, glove. **The light tan flare with the I web is one of the best gloves out there for infield!!**

Pros: this is the best glove i have ever bought. i have always flared my gloves for the infield and the real design makes it so much easier to maintain shape...i love this glove and you cant get any better than this

Cons: it looks a little bigger than 11.5 but it is good for every infield position...even though some people recommend a 11.25 for 2nd base....but overall outstanding glove!!!

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Louisville Slugger Pro Flare Series: FL1151? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

How does the Flare Design make this glove any better? All these reviews say how great the Flare Design is, but what does it do? Malletus
The Flare Series gloves are designed with a larger catching surface and a flat, deep pocket to help the player field ground baseballs with a little more ease.
JH
Does this glove come with a palm pad? Also, does it fit looser, tighter, or average? Daniel27
The Flare Series gloves all feature an adequate amount of padding in the palm. The Flare Series is a comfortable glove that may fit a little more snug than average.
Brett
are the top of the fingers thick and durable? silk
Yes, this glove is going to have a little more padding than most of the gloves in this price range. This will be a glove that is very durable and you will have this glove for a long time.
Brett
Im haveing a problem choosing which one is better. Is this glove better than the wilson a2000? Knockhouse19
It depends on who you ask and whay you classify as a "better" glove. The quality of leather in the A2000 Series may be of a little higher quality, but both the A2000's and Louisville FL1151 display great durability. So much of picking out a glove comes down to personal preference. I think the Louisville Pro Flare Series and Wilson A2000 Series will be on par with each other based on customer feedback and first hand experience.
JH
Is this glove only for left handed throwers or what? Jacob Provencher #19
We only have this glove in stock for a left hand thrower. Unfortunately, it has been discontinued by Louisville and we will not be receiving any more right hand throws in stock.
Brett
Hi, I was wondering which glove would have better padding, which one would be softer, and which one would be heavier? This or the Wilson A2000 1786DB? Cf4st
This is going to be one of the better gloves in this price range. It is going to be a very durable glove and you will be able to break this glove in and make it game ready in a couple of days.

About the Brand

In 1842, J. Frederick Hillerich emigrated with his family from Baden-Baden, Germany to the United States. Eight years before, the 1834 Book of Sports had made its debut as the nation's first publication covering baseball. But when he arrived in Baltimore, J. Frederick Hillerich would never have dreamed of the future impact his family would have on America's favorite pastime.

After a short while, the Hillerichs moved to Louisville, where J. Fred started a woodworking shop in 1856. Two of his sons, Adam and John Andrew "Bud" were born in the United States and would later join their father in his business. By 1864 "J.F. Hillerich, Job Turning" was in operation and filled orders for businesses by custom-turning everything from balusters to bedposts.

The firm thrived, and by 1875 the little woodworking shop employed about 20 people. In 1880 Bud Hillerich, who was an amateur baseball player, became an apprentice in his father's shop. Young Bud made his own baseball bats along with bats for several of his teammates.

The debate over the origins of the first bat continues to generate controversy among baseball enthusiasts, but the younger Hillerich was most certainly involved in getting his father's business involved with what would become the company's signature item. According to company legend, the first bat was turned by Bud for Pete "The Old Gladiator" Browning in 1884. Browning was a star on Louisville's professional American Association team - the Eclipse. On a spring afternoon Bud, then seventeen, witnessed Browning break his favorite bat. Bud offered to make a bat for his hero, and Browning accepted. After the young wood shop apprentice lathed a quality stick from white ash, according to the story, Browning got three hits with it in the next game.
