Description

Akadema is the most exciting baseball and softball company in the world. Their increasing market share can be attributed to their innovative quality and professionally designed product line. Focusing on the quality, feel and small details has lifted Akadema to the next level. With a goal to provide products for all ball players, Akadema has created the new Prodigy Youth Series (AOZ91-12). Constructed from U.S. Steerhide throughout the pocket and webbing, the Prodigy Series provides ideal toughness and padding. On the back of the glove, this series features the exclusive AkademaLyte leather that decreases the overall weight. This not only allows these gloves to be more easily playable, it also significantly decreases the break-in time to the point where these gloves are virtually game-ready out of the box. With the younger player in mind, Akadema slightly narrowed the finger stalls on these gloves to provide a more snug fit. Akadema: Bring Your "A Game"! Free Shipping!

Pros: The AOZ-91 easily broke-in, took about 3 days of playing catch and one treatment of glove oil. The glove leather is soft yet very durable. My son loves the feel of the glove on his hand and the high quality leather/padding appears to have eliminated any stinging. This puts many higher priced adult gloves to shame.

Cons: None after 2 months of regular use.

Pros: Only had it a few weeks but so far my 11 year old son loves it. It fits his small hand well and still has a large enough surface area to get to a lot of balls. I will know more when season starts.

Have a question about the Akadema Prodigy Series Youth Baseball Glove: AOZ91-12? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

Is this glove suitable for a 10 year old who plays 3rd base? Does the lack of conventional fingers require a different style of catching and retaining the ball in the glove?
dwa bball
This glove is going to be made to be used in all positions. You do not need to change the way you catch the ball or move your fingers inside the glove
Ryan
Is your 11.25 a good size for an 11 yr old with large hands?
maggie
An 11.25" glove is a good size for an 11 year old. However, the Akadema AOZ91-12 is a youth model. If he has large hands for his age, is expected to keep growing, and you want a glove he can use more than one or two seasons, I would recommend getting a regular sized glove, not a youth model.
Tyler
Is this a good size glove for a 7-year old?
J
At 11.25", the Akadema Prodigy Series: AOZ91-12 may be just a little too big for a 7 year old. The average size for a 7 year old is 10.5".
Tyler
Would this glove work for an 11 yr old who is a year and small for his age who plays short stop?
Jim
The Akadema Prodigy Series would be a good size for a smaller 11 year old shortstop.
Kara
Do you think this would be a good fit for an average sized 11-12 yr old infield/outfielder or would a 11.5 be better for growth and versatility?
Hazmatt
We would recommend an 11.50". The Akadema Prodigy Series: ATM92-12 Youth is a good choice for him.
Kara
Do you think 11.25" is good for a 9 year boy playing 2nd Base?
Dust
The 11.25" Akadema Prodigy Series: AOZ91-12 Youth glove would be a great size for a 9 year old.
Kevin
I want to upgrade my son's 10.75" glove. He is 8 years old. Should I get the 11" or the 11.25" if I wanted it to last 2 years?
Texasteal
I think both the 11" and the 11.25" would be good options. This would be more of a player preference. Take of advantage of our 100 day guarantee to make sure you get the right one.
Justin R.
Would the AOZ91-12 be legal for pitching in Cal Ripken and travel ball tournaments?
bball
The Akadema Prodigy Series (AOZ91-12) can be is legal in Call Ripken and travel ball tournaments.
Kara
I am looking for a glove for my 12 year old. He is 5'2", plays pitcher and short stop. I am guessing an 11.50" or 11.75"size, but would like some info.
john michael
Based on his age and position, we suggest an 11.50" model. The Akadema Prodigy Series (AOZ91-12) Youth is an 11.25" pattern and is an acceptable glove for him to use as well.
Jason
My son has made travel team for this coming spring and I'm looking to get him a new glove. He is 7 years old but both he and I have wide hands with shorter fingers. Mostly he tends to play infield, pitcher and catcher. What might you suggest for shorter fingers?
SamsDad
Youth model gloves such as the Akadema Prodigy Series (AOZ91-12) will account for shorter fingers for players. For his age, we would typically recommend something a bit smaller possibly in a 10.5 inch size like the Akadema Rookie Series (AJP96).
Patrick
If I (as an adult) stick my hand in my kid's youth glove in the process of breaking it in, is that harmful if my kid later sticks his hand in there (only) to keep breaking it in? I've seen comments saying it is bad for an adult or anyone other than the user to stick their hands into a youth glove.
Damian
I wouldn't say that it would be harmful to put your hand in the Akadema Prodigy Series: AOZ91-12 Youth glove, but it would alter how the glove is broken in. The problem would be that the glove would break-in forming to your hand rather than your players hand. It could also potentially stretch the wrist opening and finger stalls resulting in a more loose fit for your player.
Logan
My son is 8, but has pretty big hands - 5.75" long. He is getting ready to start his first year of traveling ball, and want a versatile glove that will last a couple of years. Will this glove be big enough for his hand, or should I go with 12"? thanks.
John
Given your player's specifications, I would certainly recommend the Akadema Prodigy Series Youth Baseball Glove: AOZ91-12 as a quality utility option for your 8 year old. I would not move up to a 12" model until he is a little bit older.

About the Brand

In Akadema's short but remarkable history it has become one of America's hottest baseball and softball equipment company for professional, college, high school, and serious youth players. The Akadema phenomenon started with the Professional Glove Series and continues with the Reptilian®, Praying Mantis®, Pro Soft™ and Prodigy™ Glove Series as well as the Amish Wood™, Tacktion™ and Xtension® Aluminum Bat Series. Akadema's ownership attributes increasing market share to their innovative professional baseball and softball product line in contrast to mass-produced products that have little to do with quality, feel, or design to raise the level of play.

Akadema's products are manufactured for professional players but are now accessible to semi pro, college, high school, and serious youth players. Akadema products are still designed with the professional player in mind but competitively priced for the professional player at heart. So it's your turn to think like a professional, play like a professional, and use Akadema Professional!

Akadema now has both baseball and fastpitch softball advisory staffs that they work with closely to implement new ideas. Members of the baseball advisory staff include Hall of Famers Ozzie Smith and Gary Carter as well as Howard Johnson, Reggie Smith, Luis Polonia, Sandy Martinez and many others. Fastpitch stars that are on the advisory staff include Crystl Bustos and Julie Smith. The input on performance from the advisory staff gives Akadema something they cannot put a price on. Their advisors don’t talk about marketing or places to sell the gloves, they just care about performance.
