Description

Up until 1875, baseball players didn't even use a glove when playing defense. In the late 1800's, players began using fingerless gloves on both hands, and it wasn't until 1919 that the idea of a "web" was even suggested. Unlike with bats, there are rarely innovations in the glove industry these days that really revolutionize the game. This season, Rawlings will change everything. Introducing the REVO Series player specific gloves from Rawlings. Featuring Solid Core Technology, these gloves eliminate traditional lining, and instead use layers to cater to how a player catches the ball based on position and personal preference. These layers, combined with the absence of heel and palm lacing, result in a glove that is naturally easier to close and less time consuming to break in. The REVO design creates a preformed pocket that gives players a better feel and enhanced grip of the ball, giving new meaning to the phrase "fits like a glove". Rawlings has divided these REVO gloves into three categories classified by pocket depth: Deep, Standard, and Flat. This particular model is part of the REVO 950 Series and is made from high quality oil-tanned, Pro Select shell leather with deer tanned cowhide leather lining. The Deep 130 degree pocket on this glove breaks in from thumb to ring or little finger, and is tailor-made for players that catch the ball one-handed. With a Basket Connector Web and a conventional open back design, this 11.75 Inch model allows for unparalleled control to snag balls in the infield. Rawlings: Redesigning Defense. Free Shipping!

Pros: Surely a well-made glove.

Cons: You guys are tougher than me. Out of the box I could hardly get this glove on. Without any additives (didn't want to risk not being able to return) I worked it pretty hard and couldn't get it to the point where I was happy with it. gonna return for something more "game ready", maybe the REVO 750

Pros: well made, attractive, good leather. 100% return policy, even after trying to break it in using glove oil, etc. That's awesome. I didn't believe it so I called to confirm and they confirmed that is the policy.

Cons: stiff and hard to put on at first, out of the box, but I am working with it and it is getting better.

Glove Guru

Pros: Overall, The Rawlings REVO 950 is a very high quality glove. It is made with very high quality leather that maintains it's form well. However, it is very stiff out of the box! It took a while to break in but it paid of with the finished product. The pocket is also very good for pitching and third base. Very well designed, I would definitely recommend it. Contrast stitching looks great!

Cons: The padding is very skimpy, so I had to move my fingers over, 2 in pinky slot, 1 in ring, 1 in middle, 0 in index. Also, I don't like how it is stitched in the pocket, as I couldn't open it up and add more padding.

Pros: very nice leather, look and feel. very deep pocket.

Cons: fits quite tight (compared with other gloves I have owned). This is a problem for me, and break in is slow

How long does it usually take to break in this glove? The Detroit Tigers
The Revo 950 Series is fairly broken in from day one, but will still require some work. It shouldn't take longer than 5 or 6 days to break in
Tyler
What is the difference between a 11.75 youth glove vs. an 11.75 adult glove? Roman
A youth glove is made with more narrow and shorter finger stalls, as well as a smaller hand opening.
Tyler
How much deeper is the Deep 130 pocket compared to the Standard 122? Should it be good at shortstop or do you recommend a more shallow pocket? Sam
A 130 Degree pocket will be just slightly deeper than a 122 Degree pocket. A 130 Degree pocket is better if a player plays other positions along with playing the middle infield (like pitcher or thirdbase). Pocket depth really comes down to personal preference, but a more shallow pocket is often preferred by middle infielders.
Tyler

When you say a glove breaks in from thumb to ring finger or from fingers to palm, what do you mean? brian
The Rawlings REVO 950 Series (9SC117CD) says it breaks in from thumb to ring or pinky finger. This means if you take your hand and close your thumb to your ring finger, that is how the glove will close and break-in.

My son is 10. He plays outfield and pitches. Is the REVO 950 fine? What other Rawlings glove would you recommend? steve
The Rawlings REVO 950 Series (9SC117CD) is a great glove for a 10 year old outfield/pitcher. Based on his age and position, an 11.75" pattern is the ideal size. The Rawlings Gamer XLE Series (GXLE175NC) is another option.

About the Brand

Rawlings is a major manufacturer of competitive team sports equipment and apparel for baseball, basketball, and football, as well as licensed MLB, NFL, and NCAA retail products. Rawlings is a major supplier to professional, collegiate, interscholastic, and amateur organizations worldwide, including the Official Baseball Supplier to Major League Baseball.

The first real innovation in glove making occurred in 1912 when Rawlings Sporting Goods Company introduced the "Sure Catch" glove, which was "endorsed by leading players all over the country." The Sure Catch was a one-piece glove with sewn-in finger channels and looked better suited for a duck's foot than a man's hand. Catchers' mitts used at the time were large and bulky with a single leather thong passing for a web.

In 1920, Bill Doak, a journeyman pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, approached Rawlings with an idea for improving the baseball glove from a mere protective device to a genuine aid in fielding. The "Bill Doak" model was so revolutionary that it stayed in Rawlings' line until 1953. Its key feature was a multi-thong web laced into the first finger and thumb, which created for the first time in baseball's young life, a natural pocket.

In 1925, Rawlings unveiled a three-fingered fielder's glove, and ten years later improved the Bill Doak model with a two-piece leather web. At the same time, the "T" web became a rage for first basemen's mitts. The pocket underwent a pronounced change in 1941 when the Trapper Mitt, also known as the Claw, appeared. The "Deep Well" pocket was so unique that Rawlings quickly patented it. The design was improved in 1950 by adding a leather piece across the top. Another significant creation occurred in 1948 with the three-fingered Playmaker. A five-fingered fielder's model, with all fingers laced together, provided greater pocket control.

The six-fingered Trap-Eze evolved in the 1960's. In more recent years, Rawlings produced the Fastback design, which gives a glove a snugger fit, greater extension, and overall control. The Holdster is a slot through which a finger can be extended for additional protection from impacts on the pocket. Then, there is the Edge-U-Cated Heel with its extended U-shaped lacing and the Pro H Web and much-copied Basket Web.

Some of Rawlings's more recent glove innovations also include the unique Spin-Stopper design which reduces ball spin when the ball hits the glove, and the Cantilever glove design feature that provides a cushioned area between the hand and the glove's palm area. In all, Rawlings has produced and patented more functionally innovative glove features and designs than that of any other glove manufacturer. The result is that the modern baseball glove is much larger, more comfortable, better padded, and made to last far longer than its ancestors. It is not uncommon to see today's Major League players wearing the same Rawlings glove they wore during their college playing days. In fact, Rawlings is the #1 glove in the major leagues. Rawlings maintains about 65 models of baseball and softball mitts and gloves in its line. The prototypes of virtually all of them have been field-tested by professionals before entering a sporting goods dealer's inventory.
