Pros: Nice look and leather. The pro202DCC has better ball feel and can be used for outfield as well. The PRONPDC3 11.25 inch model is a great glove as well. The Wilson A2000 1796, ASO, and Brian Wilson models are better than this one for ball feel and the ball sticking in to the mitt.

Cons: Ok ball feel

Pros: Great craftsmanship, some reviewers said it as soft but it came very stiff for me so i can mold it to my liking. Very comfortable inside, great shape, great look. Some reviewers said the padding was too thin and i was afraid of this but the padding is good for infield. Very nice glove, the best I ever owned.

Cons: No cons.

Pros: I was able to use the glove in a practice game after only a week of break in time, and now, after a year, it's by far the best glove I've ever owned. The shallow pocket gives it a really quick action from glove to throwing hand, and with a little oil every month, the leather is staying really soft and flexible. Best glove I've ever owned.

Cons: Could use a little more padding in the palm, but not too much, wouldn't want to jeopardize the inherent flexibility of the glove.

Pros: 5 years ago it only cost $149 or $159. It's Better than a Nike Glove.

Cons: Worst a $100 plus glove I ever bought. I really regret buying a heavy, very painful when caughy wrong "Heart of the Hide." Surely not worth $200. An inferior product to the gloves listted below at or above the same price poin as this model: Akadema Precision,Louisville Slugger Flare Series, Vinci Pro Limited, Reebok VR6000 $139 or an Akadema Professional Series.

Pros: everything:i have had this for 2 years now, and it has only shown small signs of tear! Tery durable, and a nice, deep pocket can be formed with it

Pros: this glove works great. i dont know why people say it takes forever to break in becasue i got it last night and its already half way there. It has a great feel and lots of fielding room. you can get the ball out very quickly. i recomend it for shortstop and second base. The palm padding is not as thin as people are saying. Its good thin but not to thin because its comes out of the glove quicker to make the play. so overall, great glove.

Cons: nothing. great glove all-around.

Pros: This glove is great. I've had it since fall of last year and it is really starting to get the right feel. I've used this glove for 3rd base, SS, and 2nd base. This is the perfect utility glove.

Cons: Sometimes it will get you if a hard hit ball gets you in the palm, I wear a batting glove under it though and it seems to help.

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Rawlings Heart of the Hide Series: PRODJ2? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

how does it compare to the revo 950 9sc115cf? Jcjc
These both are going to be really good gloves. The 9SC115CF has not been out very long so there is not a lot of feedback on this glove. The PRODJ is going to be a glove that is very durable and that have good padding. The Heart of the Hide will also use some very nice leather.
Brett
is this glove similar to an a2000 at all? if so how? danny boy
Yes. Both are made with leather of similar quality and will have very good durability. The Heart of the Hide may take a little more time to break in though.
Josh
i just bought this i play mid infeild and briefly center for two travel teams and i am 11 do you thimk i should have bought something else reesse puffs
No, this is a very good glove. The durability of this glove is going to be great. You will be able to use this glove for multiple years. This is a glove that you will be able to use in high school if the up keep of the glove is good. This is a great glove.
Brett
Should i get this glove or the a2000 superskin? I like a rough and tough glove that is very durable... I am a shortstop. this glove will need to last about 5 years also. trent #8
Both gloves are going to be very durable. The Heart of the Hide is going to be heavier than the Super Skin and a little harder to break in.
K.B.
which would you recomend? heart of the hide or a2000 superskin? i want a tough glove with alot of padding and a shallow pocket milller98
If you like a stiffer, shallow pocket the Heart of the Hide would fit that bill. The A2000 is a great glove also. Pocket might work as well.
gamer
I would love to have this glove with a little smaller opening for the hand. My 9 year old plays short, third, and a little center. He also pitches. would that be possible? BRYSON TRAMMELL ON THE GLOVE AS WELL
We don't have the ability to customize the hand opening of gloves.
Kara
I need a glove for a 17 pitcher who will continue to play in college. It must not need a lot of break in time. He likes a 11.75 size. Kat
The Heart of the Hide is a great glove. It will take some time to break in but is very durable. This is a 11.50 inch model, so you might want to look at Rawlings Heart of the Hide Series: PRO11754JB.
Kara
I am looking for a great glove for my 8 year old. He plays SS and has great hands. I need some feedback and direction for the size and quality of glove. Thanks K ball
The Rawlings Heart of the Hide uses top of line leather. However, the PRODJ2 is an adult model. I would suggest a youth model in the same size: Rawlings Gold Glove Pro Taper 125th Anniversary Series: GG1125-125 Youth.
KB
Is this the exact same glove of Derek Jeter's gameday glove? niki
The PRODJ2 is not the exact same glove Derek Jeter plays with due to the fact many MLB players get customized gloves. This glove is more of a replica of what Jeter uses.
Kris
Is this a good glove for a 12 year old shortstop and plays pitcher sometimes king
Yes, the Rawlings Heart of the Hide PRODJ2 is a very good option for both pitcher and shortstop.
Sean
Is this glove plastic because it looks so? pin
No, the Rawlings Heart of the Hide Series: PRODJ2 is made with Heart of the Hide full grain leather.
Tom
Does this glove have a shallow pocket? Because i'm worried that it would be hard to get the ball out at short or second with the basket web. will
Compared to other 11.5" models, the Rawlings Heart of the Hide Series: PRODJ2 has an average depth pocket.
Tyler
Do you know if Jeter's game glove is also 11.50"? Mike
Yes, Derek Jeter's game glove is 11.50".
Nick
Is this and adequate glove for 2ndbase or wold i be better off with an 11.25" iWeb glove? Osgood
An 11.5" glove like the Rawlings Heart of the Hide Series: PRODJ2 is a great option for a middle infielder or High School age and older.
Tyler
I'm worried about this glove being heavy because Heart of the Hides have a reputation of being a little heavy, excluding the Pro Mesh Series. Do you think this glove would be heavy or an average glove weight? How's the weight compared to an A2000? Nate
The Rawlings Heart of the Hide Series: PRODJ2 will be a little heavier in play weight. It will be very similar in weight to an A2000.
Brandon
Would you recommend this glove for a short stop/third baseman/pitcher? DJ
The 11.50" Rawlings Heart of the Hide Series: PRODJ2 would be great for a pitcher/third baseman, but might be slightly too big for a short stop.
Marcus
Which glove would be better, this glove or a Nike Diamond Elite Pro for short stop? Nick Canarr
The Rawlings Heart of the Hide Series: PRODJ2 and the Nike Diamond Elite Pro are both great gloves for the infield. The Rawlings Heart of the Hide will be higher in leather quality though.
Noah
I already have this glove and was wondering, how do you take out the creases/wrinkles on the glove? a
The best way to eliminate creases and wear on your Rawlings Heart of the Hide Series: PRODJ2 is to apply a thin layer of glove oil to the glove. Then massage it in and use a mallet to beat the crease out. Make sure not to over due it with the oil.
Brandon
When do you get this great glove back in stock? doogie
Generally we reorder gloves every two to four weeks. Our website will be updated when we receive more of the Rawlings Heart of the Hide Series (PRODJ2) in stock.
Jackson
This glove is discontinued according to this website. Where can I find a Rawlings HOH PRODJ2 or a glove almost exactly like one? ContentCrazy
Since the Rawlings Heart of the Hide Series: PRODJ2 was discontinued a few years ago, you would most likely have to resort to shopping Ebay or something similar for a used model. Unfortunately, Rawlings doesn't make a glove extremely similar any longer in terms of 11.5" size with a basket web in the Heart of the Hide line.

About the Brand

Rawlings is a major manufacturer of competitive team sports equipment and apparel for baseball, basketball, and football, as well as licensed MLB, NFL, and NCAA retail products. Rawlings is a major supplier to professional, collegiate, interscholastic, and amateur organizations worldwide, including the Official Baseball Supplier to Major League Baseball.

The first real innovation in glove making occurred in 1912 when Rawlings Sporting Goods Company introduced the "Sure Catch" glove, which was "endorsed by leading players all over the country." The Sure Catch was a one-piece glove with sewn-in finger channels and looked better suited for a duck's foot than a man's hand. Catchers' mitts used at the time were large and bulky with a single leather thong passing for a web.

In 1920, Bill Doak, a journeyman pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, approached Rawlings with an idea for improving the baseball glove from a mere protective device to a genuine aid in fielding. The "Bill Doak" model was so revolutionary that it stayed in Rawlings' line until 1953. Its key feature was a multi-thong web laced into the first finger and thumb, which created for the first time in baseball's young life, a natural pocket.

In 1925, Rawlings unveiled a three-fingered fielder's glove, and ten years later improved the Bill Doak model with a two-piece leather web. At the same time, the "T" web became a rage for first basemen's mitts. The pocket underwent a pronounced change in 1941 when the Trapper Mitt, also known as the Claw, appeared. The "Deep Well" pocket was so unique that Rawlings quickly patented it. The design was improved in 1950 by adding a leather piece across the top. Another significant creation occurred in 1948 with the three-fingered Playmaker. A five-fingered fielder's model, with all fingers laced together, provided greater pocket control.

The six-fingered Trap-Eze evolved in the 1960's. In more recent years, Rawlings produced the Fastback design, which gives a glove a snugger fit, greater extension, and overall control. The Holdster is a slot through which a finger can be extended for additional protection from impacts on the pocket. Then, there is the Edge-U-Cated Heel with its extended U-shaped lacing and the Pro H Web and much-copied Basket Web.

Some of Rawlings's more recent glove innovations also include the unique Spin-Stopper design which reduces ball spin when the ball hits the glove, and the Cantilever glove design feature that provides a cushioned area between the hand and the glove's palm area. In all, Rawlings has produced and patented more functionally innovative glove features and designs than that of any other glove manufacturer. The result is that the modern baseball glove is much larger, more comfortable, better padded, and made to last far longer than its ancestors. It is not uncommon to see today's Major League players wearing the same Rawlings glove they wore during their college playing days. In fact, Rawlings is the #1 glove in the major leagues. Rawlings maintains about 65 models of baseball and softball mitts and gloves in its line. The prototypes of virtually all of them have been field-tested by professionals before entering a sporting goods dealer's inventory.
