As with the Gold Glove Award, this glove is for the player mastering defense. The Rawlings Gold Glove Legend Series features patterns just like the pros wear, designed for each position: solid webs for pitchers, shallow pockets for middle infielders, and open webs for outfielders and infielders. The deer tanned cowhide palm and leather finger back linings help for strength, comfort and durability. The patented laceless finger Holdster with index finger pad adds comfort and protection. The Rawlings Gold Glove is perfect for anyone trying to improve their defensive play and who needs a tough durable glove that can take the hardships of playing defense. The moldable padding feature allows the player to shape the pocket based on the demands of his/her position. As with all Rawlings gloves, this Gold Glove has been made with the highest grade of quality and hand crafted leather. The Rawlings Gold Glove Legend Series gloves are targeted for the elite players that need a game-ready glove or a glove that may require minimal break in time; approximately 50% factory / 50% player break in work - slightly less break in time than the Heart of the Hide Series. Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Rawlings Gold Glove Legend Series: GGTML First Base Mitt? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

My son is currently 11 and will be 12 in June. He is about 5'1, 115 lbs. He has fairly large hands for his age. Is this a good glove for him? kja71
A 12 inch glove is typically recommended for 11, 12 and 13 year olds. If you want a glove he can grow into and possibly use in High School, he could probably get away with using a 12.25 or 12.5 inch glove.
Brett
My grandson is 8 years old,52 inches,75 pounds and average hands. What size 1st base glove. bob
This is a great link that we have that helps decide what size glove someone should wear and the type of glove; http://www.justballgloves.com/glove-coach/
Brett
I'm 12 I want to start playing first base or catcher whould this glove be good for me? and what catchers mitt would you recomend for me hunth
This would be a good first base mitt for you. A 12 inch first base mitt is most common for 12 year olds. A 32 inch catchers mitt is most common for 12 year olds. The Akadema AGC98 and Glovesmith 2200L are a few 32 inch catchers mitts that come to mind.
JH
I have a 7 year old son who throws left handed. What 1st baseman mitt would you recommend John
I would recommend either the Rawlings R115FB or Akadema AHC94. Both of which are 11.5 inch first base mitts better suited for a 7 year old.
Brett
I'm looking for a decent 1st base glove for my 9 year old. He is 4'8" and 90 pounds. EDB
I would highly recommend the GGTML. The gold gloves are made of very high quality leather for a glove at that price.
Mark
I have a 9 year old and he is 55" tall and 78lbs. We are looking at getting a first baseman's glove. He plays baseball year round. Should we be looking at 11.5" or 12" gloves? hkdunn1
I suggest a 11.5" youth first baseman's glove for a 9 year old.
Sean
Do you have this glove for a right handed thrower gcoach
Yes. As of 10/17/2011, we have this glove available in both a left hand thrower and right hand thrower model.
John
My son is 9 and plays 1st base for a competitive baseball team. I am interested in getting him a good quality glove. Is this the one to go with? He is 5'2", 108lbs. kman'smom
Very nice choice, actually! Nice leather that breaks in easily. Our 100 day guarantee makes it painless if it doesn't fit the way he likes.
Linda
Would u recommend the glove for a 10yr old? jeremy
This is a good glove, but I would recommend a 11.50 inch instead of a 12 inch.
K.B.
Is this a good glove to use for High School Baseball play or should I get a bigger one? obe
We recommend a 12.75" to a 13.00" for a High School player.
Kara

About the Brand

Rawlings is a major manufacturer of competitive team sports equipment and apparel for baseball, basketball, and football, as well as licensed MLB, NFL, and NCAA retail products. Rawlings is a major supplier to professional, collegiate, interscholastic, and amateur organizations worldwide, including the Official Baseball Supplier to Major League Baseball.

The first real innovation in glove making occurred in 1912 when Rawlings Sporting Goods Company introduced the "Sure Catch" glove, which was "endorsed by leading players all over the country." The Sure Catch was a one-piece glove with sewn-in finger channels and looked better suited for a duck's foot than a man's hand. Catchers' mitts used at the time were large and bulky with a single leather thong passing for a web.

In 1920, Bill Doak, a journeyman pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, approached Rawlings with an idea for improving the baseball glove from a mere protective device to a genuine aid in fielding. The "Bill Doak" model was so revolutionary that it stayed in Rawlings' line until 1953. Its key feature was a multi-thong web laced into the first finger and thumb, which created for the first time in baseball's young life, a natural pocket.

In 1925, Rawlings unveiled a three-fingered fielder's glove, and ten years later improved the Bill Doak model with a two-piece leather web. At the same time, the "T" web became a rage for first basemen's mitts. The pocket underwent a pronounced change in 1941 when the Trapper Mitt, also known as the Claw, appeared. The "Deep Well" pocket was so unique that Rawlings quickly patented it. The design was improved in 1950 by adding a leather piece across the top. Another significant creation occurred in 1948 with the three-fingered Playmaker. A five-fingered fielder's model, with all fingers laced together, provided greater pocket control.

The six-fingered Trap-Eze evolved in the 1960's. In more recent years, Rawlings produced the Fastback design, which gives a glove a snugger fit, greater extension, and overall control. The Holdster is a slot through which a finger can be extended for additional protection from impacts on the pocket. Then, there is the Edge-U-Cated Heel with its extended U-shaped lacing and the Pro H Web and much-copied Basket Web.

Some of Rawlings's more recent glove innovations also include the unique Spin-Stopper design which reduces ball spin when the ball hits the glove, and the Cantilever glove design feature that provides a cushioned area between the hand and the glove's palm area. In all, Rawlings has produced and patented more functionally innovative glove features and designs than that of any other glove manufacturer. The result is that the modern baseball glove is much larger, more comfortable, better padded, and made to last far longer than its ancestors. It is not uncommon to see today's Major League players wearing the same Rawlings glove they wore during their college playing days. In fact, Rawlings is the #1 glove in the major leagues. Rawlings maintains about 65 models of baseball and softball mitts and gloves in its line. The prototypes of virtually all of them have been field-tested by professionals before entering a sporting goods dealer's inventory.
