As with the Gold Glove Award, this glove is for the player mastering defense. The Rawlings Gold Glove Legend Series features patterns just like the pros wear, designed for each position: solid webs for pitchers, shallow pockets for middle infielders, and open webs for outfielders and infielders. The deer tanned cowhide palm and leather finger back linings help for strength, comfort and durability. The patented laceless finger Holdster with index finger pad adds comfort and protection. The Rawlings Gold Glove is perfect for anyone trying to improve their defensive play and who needs a tough durable glove that can take the hardships of playing defense. As with all Rawlings gloves, this Gold Glove has been made with the highest grade of quality and hand crafted leather. The Rawlings Gold Glove Legend Series gloves are targeted for the elite players that need a game-ready glove or a glove that may require minimal break in time; approximately 50% factory / 50% player break in work - slightly less break in time than the Heart of the Hide Series. Pros: it has a deep pocket and that ball that would skim off your glove when going from left or right will now find the pocket or webbing perfectly. I've only used it once and its at a comfortable break in.

Pros: Execellent glove, much shorter break in time than it says, flexible and versitile, padded well, good leather, already treated with nice oil, good looks, and finally just an excellent buy for $90. I use for high school games and it was a great replacement for my old mitt.

Cons: less break in time than it says (good or bad depending on how intense you play and how fast you need the glove game ready)

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Rawlings Gold Glove Legend Series: GG204L? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

Can you get the glove personalized? Does it come in different colors? Approximatly how long does it take to break in? Bones
Unfortunately, we are unable to personalize glove, but I would check out customgloves.com. This is the only color pattern this model comes in. If you work with the glove everyday it should be game ready after 3 or 4 days.
JH
Would this be a third base glove or middle infielders glove? Justin
That depends on the age of the player and their personal preference. Most middle infielders I know who are of High School age and older use a 11.25 or 11.5 inch glove. Most of the third basemen I know who are of High School age and older use a 11.5, 11.75, or 12 inch glove. An 11.5 inch model is kind of a "tweener" and would work especially well for players who may switch between the 3 infield positions. Personally, I would lean towards an 11.75 inch glove for third and an 11.25 or 11.5 for middle infield.
TJ
Could a 12 year old you use it for outfeild? Amall
This is actually an infield model and not a youth glove. I would recommend a youth glove in a 11.50.
K.B.
Would this be a good glove for a 12 year old? Or is it to big? Tim
The average size glove for a 12 year old is 11.5 to 12 inches. I think this would be a good option.
Tyler
If they are playing an infield position, it should be a good size. However, if they play an outfield position I would suggest going with a 12-12.5 inch model.
Jennifer
How long does this glove take to break in? James
If you work with it everyday, the GG204L shouldn't take longer than 5 or so days to break in.
Tyler
I play 3rd base and I am 16 years old. Would this be a good glove for me? ds9
The Rawlings Gold Glove Legend Series: GG204L would be a great glove for you to use playing 3rd base. It is just the right size for you and is a good choice to use!
Jennifer
What is the difference between the Rawlings Legend series and Gamer series? dp
There really isn't much of a difference, but the Gamer Series will be a little softer out of the box than the Legend Series.
Tyler
is this a good second baseman glove ProdigyPlayer
Yes the Rawlings Gold Glove Legend Series: GG204L will work great for second base. Here are some other options from Rawlings that would work well for second base. http://www.justballgloves.com/compare/
Tom
Why was this glove discontinued? Ben Halaby
Rawlings closes out gloves typically after they have been out for 1-1.5 years. That is the only reason why the Rawlings Gold Glove Legend Series: GG204L was discontinued. Most of the time a new model is produced in a different colorway.

About the Brand

Rawlings is a major manufacturer of competitive team sports equipment and apparel for baseball, basketball, and football, as well as licensed MLB, NFL, and NCAA retail products. Rawlings is a major supplier to professional, collegiate, interscholastic, and amateur organizations worldwide, including the Official Baseball Supplier to Major League Baseball.

The first real innovation in glove making occurred in 1912 when Rawlings Sporting Goods Company introduced the "Sure Catch" glove, which was "endorsed by leading players all over the country." The Sure Catch was a one-piece glove with sewn-in finger channels and looked better suited for a duck's foot than a man's hand. Catchers' mitts used at the time were large and bulky with a single leather thong passing for a web.

In 1920, Bill Doak, a journeyman pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, approached Rawlings with an idea for improving the baseball glove from a mere protective device to a genuine aid in fielding. The "Bill Doak" model was so revolutionary that it stayed in Rawlings' line until 1953. Its key feature was a multi-thong web laced into the first finger and thumb, which created for the first time in baseball's young life, a natural pocket.

In 1925, Rawlings unveiled a three-fingered fielder's glove, and ten years later improved the Bill Doak model with a two-piece leather web. At the same time, the "T" web became a rage for first basemen's mitts. The pocket underwent a pronounced change in 1941 when the Trapper Mitt, also known as the Claw, appeared. The "Deep Well" pocket was so unique that Rawlings quickly patented it. The design was improved in 1950 by adding a leather piece across the top. Another significant creation occurred in 1948 with the three-fingered Playmaker. A five-fingered fielder's model, with all fingers laced together, provided greater pocket control.

The six-fingered Trap-Eze evolved in the 1960's. In more recent years, Rawlings produced the Fastback design, which gives a glove a snugger fit, greater extension, and overall control. The Holdster is a slot through which a finger can be extended for additional protection from impacts on the pocket. Then, there is the Edge-U-Cated Heel with its extended U-shaped lacing and the Pro H Web and much-copied Basket Web.

Some of Rawlings's more recent glove innovations also include the unique Spin-Stopper design which reduces ball spin when the ball hits the glove, and the Cantilever glove design feature that provides a cushioned area between the hand and the glove's palm area. In all, Rawlings has produced and patented more functionally innovative glove features and designs than that of any other glove manufacturer. The result is that the modern baseball glove is much larger, more comfortable, better padded, and made to last far longer than its ancestors. It is not uncommon to see today's Major League players wearing the same Rawlings glove they wore during their college playing days. In fact, Rawlings is the #1 glove in the major leagues. Rawlings maintains about 65 models of baseball and softball mitts and gloves in its line. The prototypes of virtually all of them have been field-tested by professionals before entering a sporting goods dealer's inventory.
