Description

Rawlings Encore 12" Baseball First Base Mitt: ECFBM-10B

Become a picking machine at first base when you gear up with a Rawlings Encore 1B mitt!

Mitt Benefits

The Encore Series delivers several incredible benefits to younger ballplayers. First off, it is going to have the Extended Pocket Base. This feature delivers a smorgasbord of benefits. (1) The base of the web is modified so that the pocket extends up into the webbing of the mitt ultimately creating a huge area to catch the baseball. (2) Rawlings has adjusted the hand positioning within the mitt to move it away from the baseball's normal impact zone. (3) Due to the before-mentioned features, this mitt should be one of the more comfort-oriented mitts as it should prevent hand-stinging really well.

It will also have the Unique Web Design that will work hand-in-hand with the Extended Pocket Base. As the Web Design & Extended Pocket collaborate within the mitt's structure, the player should find that the mitt had a deep pocket and that it is extremely easy for the fingers of the mitt to close around a ball that is in the pocket.

The 12-inch length of this mitt will make it great for young players developing at 1B! To compliment that shorter length of the mitt, it is also going to be snugger so that it will fit well on a 10-14-year-old hand. And even though it may not deliver the exact same quality as a super high-end Rawlings mitt, this thing will look like it belongs on a Big League diamond with the awesome black, grey and silver design.

Warranty

You can buy this Rawlings mitt with confidence as it is covered by a twelve (12) month manufacturer’s warranty period (Be sure to note that the warranty does not cover mitts that were placed in a microwave or oven, mitts that have been over-oiled or mitts with broken laces). If you buy the mitt from JustGloves and find yourself with a possible warranty issue, please reach out to the JustGloves Glove Experts. They will be sure to get you the info needed to reach out to Rawlings and begin the warranty replacement process.

Great glove Scott Hay Coach

Pros: Sick glove. Easy to break in, great quality. Big enough for a tight fit on my adult hand, but small enough for a comfortable fit for my 10 year old. Only took a few days to break in well enough for game play. Great pocket, nice leather, comfortable lining. My son is pumped on it.

Cons: None.

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Rawlings Encore 12" Baseball First Base Mitt: ECFBM-10B? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

What age group is this most appropriate for? My son plays 10u travel ball so I wasn't sure if this would be too big. Ricky
The Rawlings Encore 12" Baseball First Base Mitt: ECFBM-10B is a perfect size for a 10U player at 1B but it is important to note that this mitt may feature a hand fitting larger than what most 10U players will be able to handle.
Cameron
What's better for a 10u seasoned 1st base travel ball player. This series or the R9? Andrea
Although both options would be great for a 10U 1st Baseman, I would lean towards this Rawlings Encore 12" Baseball First Base Mitt: ECFBM-10B due to the extended and deeper pocket.
Frank
Would this be a good size for a 12 year old? Laureen
Yes, the Rawlings Encore 12" Baseball First Base Mitt: ECFBM-10B would be an excellent option to consider for a 12 year old!
Cameron
My son will be playing first base. He currently has Rawlings PP120R general fielding glove. He is having trouble keeping the ball in pocket. He is a large 11 year old with the hands of a 13-14 year old. I need a first base mitt. I also need quick break in as the season has begun. I'm trying to decide between this Rawlings Encore and the Marucci Ascension 12.5 listed on your site. Are there any fitment differences that I should know about? The other gloves in this price range read to have long break in times or very bad reviews. John
For an 11 year old player, we would recommend a mitt at 12 inches. With any mitt, there will be some time needed to get it game ready. The Rawlings Encore 12" Baseball First Base Mitt: ECFBM-10B, although not game ready, is a great mitt to consider for an 11 year old player, and may take around 2 weeks to get ready.
Cameron
What would be the best first base glove for a 9 year old? John manuel
For a 9 year old, we would recommend a 1B mitt at 11.50 inches. If the player is comfortable with a slightly larger mitt then this Rawlings Encore 12" Baseball First Base Mitt: ECFBM-10B is a great one to consider.

About the Brand

Rawlings is a major manufacturer of competitive team sports equipment and apparel for baseball, basketball, and football, as well as licensed MLB, NFL, and NCAA retail products. Rawlings is a major supplier to professional, collegiate, interscholastic, and amateur organizations worldwide, including the Official Baseball Supplier to Major League Baseball.

The first real innovation in glove making occurred in 1912 when Rawlings Sporting Goods Company introduced the "Sure Catch" glove, which was "endorsed by leading players all over the country." The Sure Catch was a one-piece glove with sewn-in finger channels and looked better suited for a duck's foot than a man's hand. Catchers' mitts used at the time were large and bulky with a single leather thong passing for a web.

In 1920, Bill Doak, a journeyman pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, approached Rawlings with an idea for improving the baseball glove from a mere protective device to a genuine aid in fielding. The "Bill Doak" model was so revolutionary that it stayed in Rawlings' line until 1953. Its key feature was a multi-thong web laced into the first finger and thumb, which created for the first time in baseball's young life, a natural pocket.

In 1925, Rawlings unveiled a three-fingered fielder's glove, and ten years later improved the Bill Doak model with a two-piece leather web. At the same time, the "T" web became a rage for first basemen's mitts. The pocket underwent a pronounced change in 1941 when the Trapper Mitt, also known as the Claw, appeared. The "Deep Well" pocket was so unique that Rawlings quickly patented it. The design was improved in 1950 by adding a leather piece across the top. Another significant creation occurred in 1948 with the three-fingered Playmaker. A five-fingered fielder's model, with all fingers laced together, provided greater pocket control.

The six-fingered Trap-Eze evolved in the 1960's. In more recent years, Rawlings produced the Fastback design, which gives a glove a snugger fit, greater extension, and overall control. The Holdster is a slot through which a finger can be extended for additional protection from impacts on the pocket. Then, there is the Edge-U-Cated Heel with its extended U-shaped lacing and the Pro H Web and much-copied Basket Web.

Some of Rawlings's more recent glove innovations also include the unique Spin-Stopper design which reduces ball spin when the ball hits the glove, and the Cantilever glove design feature that provides a cushioned area between the hand and the glove's palm area. In all, Rawlings has produced and patented more functionally innovative glove features and designs than that of any other glove manufacturer. The result is that the modern baseball glove is much larger, more comfortable, better padded, and made to last far longer than its ancestors. It is not uncommon to see today's Major League players wearing the same Rawlings glove they wore during their college playing days. In fact, Rawlings is the #1 glove in the major leagues. Rawlings maintains about 65 models of baseball and softball mitts and gloves in its line. The prototypes of virtually all of them have been field-tested by professionals before entering a sporting goods dealer's inventory.
