Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Louisville Slugger Omaha Pro Series: OPRO1175? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

how should i break this glove in? al
I would start by using a sponge or cloth and applying a small amount of glove oil to the entire surface of the glove, then put a baseball in the pocket of the glove and wrap the glove with some elastic bands. Let the glove sit overnight and the next day take it out and start playing some catch with it. You can also use a wooden mallet to help simulate playing catch. Whenever the glove is not in use, make sure to put a ball in the pocket of the glove and wrap it with elastic bands. I wouldn't oil your glove more than 2 or 3 times a season. Repetition is the key and the more you play catch with the glove, the quicker it will break in.
Mark
Could you give me the country of origin for this glove? No_Pepper
This glove is manufactured in the Philippines.
Brett
is this glove good for the outfield or what kind do i need to buy size is youth 11.75 sluggers 25
If you're looking at 11.75 inch gloves for the outfield, this would be an excellent option.
JH
Is this glove good for a 13 year old Shortstop/Pitcher? And is it easy to break in? Pitcher2
It is a great glove for a shortstop. However most of the time you won't see an H web used by a pitcher, but it is all personal preference. The Omaha Pro requires average break in time.
Mark
I went to a Dick's Sporting Goods Store and this glove was labeled as a Infield/Pitcher model, is this glove recommended for pitchers? Shortstop2
Most infield gloves are 11.00-11.50 inches. Most outfield gloves are 12.00-12.50 inches. Sometimes players use a little bigger gloves for the infield. This glove would work for the infield for some.
Brett
How do you recommend breaking this glove in? How long will it take to break in? JJ
Everyone has a different method to break their gloves in. This glove is pretty easy to break in, so it won't take much. I always used a conditioner not oil.
Linda
How long does it take to break in this glove? Shortstop27
Everyone's method of breaking in a glove is different. But this glove should break in pretty easy.
Linda
Can you use this glove for second base? bwalk
At 11.75 inches, it may be a little too big for 2nd base in my opinion, but still functional. Most of picking out a glove comes down to your personal preference. If you prefer a slightly larger than average glove then the OPRO1175 would be a great option.
Tyler
in your opinion what webbing would be better for the outfield. modified trapeze or h-web? zac
100% of that comes down to the personal preference of the player. Modified Trap webs are slightly more popular for the outfield though.

About the Brand

In 1842, J. Frederick Hillerich emigrated with his family from Baden-Baden, Germany to the United States. Eight years before, the 1834 Book of Sports had made its debut as the nation's first publication covering baseball. But when he arrived in Baltimore, J. Frederick Hillerich would never have dreamed of the future impact his family would have on America's favorite pastime.

After a short while, the Hillerichs moved to Louisville, where J. Fred started a woodworking shop in 1856. Two of his sons, Adam and John Andrew "Bud" were born in the United States and would later join their father in his business. By 1864 "J.F. Hillerich, Job Turning" was in operation and filled orders for businesses by custom-turning everything from balusters to bedposts.

The firm thrived, and by 1875 the little woodworking shop employed about 20 people. In 1880 Bud Hillerich, who was an amateur baseball player, became an apprentice in his father's shop. Young Bud made his own baseball bats along with bats for several of his teammates.

The debate over the origins of the first bat continues to generate controversy among baseball enthusiasts, but the younger Hillerich was most certainly involved in getting his father's business involved with what would become the company's signature item. According to company legend, the first bat was turned by Bud for Pete "The Old Gladiator" Browning in 1884. Browning was a star on Louisville's professional American Association team - the Eclipse. On a spring afternoon Bud, then seventeen, witnessed Browning break his favorite bat. Bud offered to make a bat for his hero, and Browning accepted. After the young wood shop apprentice lathed a quality stick from white ash, according to the story, Browning got three hits with it in the next game.

Louisville Slugger gloves are worn by more pitchers in Major League Baseball than any other glove.
