Description

Akadema is the most exciting baseball and softball company in the world. Their increasing market share can be attributed to their innovative quality and professionally designed product line. Focusing on the quality, feel, and small details has lifted Akadema to the next level. With a goal to provide products for all ball players, Akadema has created the new Prodigy Youth Series. Constructed from U.S. Steer hide throughout the pocket and webbing, the Prodigy Series provides ideal toughness and padding. On the back of the glove, this series features the exclusive AkademaLyte leather that decreases the overall weight. This not only allows these gloves to be more easily playable, it also significantly decreases the break-in time to the point where these gloves are virtually game-ready out of the box. With the younger player in mind, Akadema slightly narrowed the finger stalls on these gloves to provide a more snug fit. Akadema: Bring Your "A Game"! Free Shipping!

Warranty

Akadema gloves will come with a manufacturer’s warranty of nine (9) months from the purchase date. This warranty will cover ripping and tears of the leather of the glove. It will not include ripped laces -or- scuffing of the glove’s leather, binding or welting. If you feel that a warranty issue has arisen with your Akadema glove that was purchased from JustGloves and it has been 9 months or less since the purchase, please contact the Glove Experts from JustGloves. The Glove Experts are knowledgeable of the warranty processes and can help you get set up with directions for doing a warranty replacement with Akadema.

Pros: We're very happy with this glove. I purchased it in black last fall for my son's 7th birthday so he could casually break it in over the winter. The break-in time was average. The quality is excellent. We knew it would be a bit big for a 7 year old (perfect probably for 8 or maybe 9 year old) but we've been VERY pleasantly surprised at how easy it is for him to handle. It's ready for spring play. Excellent choice.

Pros: Just got this glove for my 8 year old, lefty. He loves it and so do I. We've conditioned it once and used it in 2 practices so far and it's breaking in great. This is a great place to find a quality mitt.

Cons: I think for the youth gloves a velcro strap for the wrist would be great... small wrists. Otherwise this is a 5-star glove.

Pros: Great first base mitt for my 9 year old. Took about two weeks to break in and is a great glove!

Cons: seems bigger than a 11.5 but the kid easily handles it.

Softball Dad

Pros: Bought this glove for my lefty daughter (11) who initially complained about the break in. She kept playing it and now she only takes it off when she's call on to pitch or bat! She loves the deep pocket and its stiff sides help her dig out the occasional errant throws to first.

Cons: Takes oil and patience to break in but the return is fantastic!

Pros: Great glove, especially at this price! My 9 year old has played 150 games over the last two years with this mitt. Break in was quick and durability has been solid.

Cons: Break in was fast but with that comes fatigue too. This mitt will probably be retired before next February but I would buy it again and again.

Pros: My son has been using this glove all season. Excellent quality. Truly top notch, especially for the money. Should last a long long time.

Cons: Be aware that it is a very big glove, even though it is "youth" size. It is substantially bigger than his standard fielding glove, so it takes some getting used to. The thick leather does take some extra breaking in as well, so don't expect it to break in after one game, or one night wrapped up.

Pros: Bought this glove for my 9yr old and he couldn't be happier. The glove was ready to go with no break in period, glove has quality leather and great padding, he catches the ball with ease like if he had his regular glove.

Cons: None- if you are looking for a 1st basemen glove for a reasonable price then this is the glove for you.

Great for young players, get your money's worth. Nick player

Pros: I got this in 6th grade and am still using it today in my sophomore year of high school. It's grown much too small for me now and I'm shopping for new ones but it is amazing for younger players. It breaks in relatively fast and softens up and really fits to your hand before you know it, and it lasts.

Cons: Not much padding for the palm and heel, so if you're getting balls bounced to you from the coach's son on third base who can't really throw a ball but can manage to one hop bullets to you, your hand is gonna sting a little. Other than that, it is fantastic while your hand fits in it.

not a bargan too many gloves dad parent

Pros: the glove size is ok i have a 7 year old playing 8u .He is 75 lbs and 4'4" and can easily handle this glove

Cons: the glove is not high quality it after a few games is floppy in the pocket and easily folds over on hard throws. There is verry little padding and the leather is a bit thin.A $99 youth glove i was hoping for somthing closer to a rawlings gold glove elite, not the case.

Flappy,Floppy,Flopperton. Goraman parent

Pros: Nice looking, no break in needed.

Cons: Not Structured even a little. Hard thrown balls bend it back , ball keeps going. the outer edge has no support. It is critical to catch in the pocket with this glove, not good for first base where balls are often thrown to the outside of the base line. Laces are stiff and hard, they don't stay tied. good for very young players that don't throw very hard.

Great Youth Glove x2.5 Seasons Todd Parent

Pros: My 12 year old son used this glove over the past two and a half seasons in 120+ games and it's still in great shape. Took some breaking in, but can't say enough about the quality of lacing and leather. Held it's structure and pocket well. He's moving on to a bigger glove, but I'll stash this one away as his first 1B glove.

Cons: None. Unless you were running to first....then it was along walk back to the dugout.

Good Quality for Price and Age Group! John O. Parent

Pros: We bought this glove for our 10 year old lefty last Christmas, which gave us plenty of time to break it in. It didn’t take long, and it developed a great pocket. It’s worked wonderful so far, and he loves it. Good quality glove at this price point for a Little League ball player.

Cons: Yellow paint fades/wears a bit (only cosmetic), and this size might not be suitable for a more developed 12 year old hand; I’m glad we made the purchase when we did so he’ll get the most use out of it.

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Akadema Prodigy 11.5" Youth Baseball First Base Mitt: AHC94-12? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

Is this all right for an 11 year old? lil/lefty
The average 11 year old first baseman will use a mitt around 12 inches. This one is 11.5 inches and is more common for first basemen around 9 or 10 years old. He can absolutely use it though and it should fit great, but it may be a little below average in size.
Tyler
I like the review in this glove, it seems to break in easy. I would like to purchase it for my son, however, I would like to know if it comes with velcro on the wrist and is it available in other colors? David
Unfortunately, the AHC94-12 does not come with a velcro strap on the wrist. The only color this glove comes in is the light tan and brown.
Sean
Have a 10 yr old. Do I go with a 12 or 11.5? Looking for a glove that needs no break in time? mike
An 11.5 inch glove is a pretty solid size for a 10 year old. However, if you want something that he can grow with, you might consider something at 12 inches.
Tyler
I'm looking to get a left-handed first base glove for my 10 yr old. Are there any differences of note in comparing the Akadema with the Rawlings (the only two models available)? Hard to gather if there is much of a difference other than price and color from the web description. R
Both are made from steerhide leather and will be great mitts under $100. The Akadema AHC94-12 may be just a little stiffer out of the box and will require a little more break in time. Other than that, it comes down to your personal preference as both are great first base mitts for a 10 year old.
Tyler
Is this an 11.5" glove? JJ
Yes the Akadema Prodigy Series: AHC94-12 Youth is 11.50 inches.
Tom
What size first base mitt should a 10 yr old being using? Saying he is 4'9" and growing. Would like a glove he could maybe use the next couple or few seasons. He plays year around. Scott
The Akadema Prodigy Series: AHC94-12 Youth First Base Mitt is a workable size for a 10 year old. That being said, he may desire something a little larger within a season or two. You might consider looking at 12 models if you want something with which he can grow.
Kara
Is 11.5 inch first base mitt short for a first base mitt? bennyboy
That all depends on the age of the player. The Akadema Prodigy AHC94-12 is a great size mitt for a first baseman between 6 and 9 years old.
Tyler
What size should my 11 year old be using for 1st base? none
I would recommend between 11.75 and 12.25 inches.
Damon
What size first base glove should a 9 year old use? jen
The Akadema Prodigy Series 11.50" would be a perfect size for a 9 year old.
Kara
I would like to purchase this glove, is it available in black? tim
The Akadema Prodigy Series: AHC-12 Youth First Base Mitt is only available in the color pictured on the website, tan and brown.
Aubrey
Would the Akadema Prodigy AHC94-12 be a good size for a 10 year old 4'7" 75lbs? John
There is a shot that this mitt could work, but a more common size first base mitt for a 10 or 11 year old ballplayer is 12".
Tyler
My son is 8 1/2. He plays 1st, 3rd, and catcher. We have a regular 11.25" fielding glove but seeing as he is playing more and more first, I was thinking of getting a glove. Would this be the right size or should I look bigger? He's big for his age and I can't exactly afford to replace a glove every year. stu929
Based on his age, we recommend a 11.50" first base mitt like the Akadema Prodigy Series: AHC94-12 Youth First Base Mitt.
Aubrey
My son is 11 years old. Would this glove be to small for him? He plays travel ball, lots of games is it durable enough? His regular 3rd base is 11 1/2'' but it's not youth. Can you recommend a first base glove that's easy to break in and not youth size? PK
The Akadema Prodigy Series: AHC94-12 Youth First Base Mitt would be a good option for an 11 year old first baseman, and I've talked to many customers who have 10 or 11 year olds who love this model. It also features above average durability for a youth mitt and will be hard to beat compared to other options under $100. There are no 11.5" adult first base mitts on the market. You might need to look to a longer 12" size if you want something for 1B that is not considered a youth glove.
Tyler
Would this glove be too big for a 7 year old who is 4'2" and about 55 lbs? Froggyjake
At 11.50", the Akadema Prodigy Series: AHC94-12 Youth First Base Mitt would be a good choice for a 7 year old.
Aubrey
My daughter is 8 1/2 years old. She is the 1st baseman for her all star softball team. They play with 11 inch balls, would this glove be a good fit for her and be okay for that size softball? Crush Coach
The Akadema Prodigy Series: AHC94-12 Youth First Base Mitt is designed for baseball. However, it does have a deep pocket and could be used for 11" softballs. Keep in mind we have a Glove Assurance Program (only $29.99 for the program) that allows you buy a glove and try it out for 100 days. If you decide within 100 days, that the glove is not for you, it can be returned for a refund.
Kara
I have a 10 yr old turning 11 in May. Over 5'0" and large hands for his age. Is there a size range to jump to an adult glove? JDK
We recommend a youth glove for his age and size. The Akadema Prodigy Series: AHC94-12 Youth First Base Mitt is a great option for him. Most players move to an adult glove at age 12 to 13, depending on the size of the player.
Kara
Is there any nylon in the interior of this glove, or is it completely leather inside and out (other than the labeling)? Snag
The Akadema Prodigy Series (AHC94-12) features an all leather shell, including the pocket and webbing. There will be more synthetic materials on the interior of the glove to provide padding and support.
Justin R.
Is this a good glove for a 9 year old turning 10 in December? Is it too small? dad
This Akadema Prodigy Series (AHC94-12) Youth First Base Mitt would be a great option for a Youth first baseman. The 11.50" pattern size would be a great choice for that age.
Mac
Would this glove be appropriate for a 10 year old? I just purchased a size 13 from you guys but it is entirely to big. Debbie
The Akadema Prodigy Series (AHC94-12) should be a good fit for a youth player of that age.
Patrick
My 11 year old son has been asked to move from third to first base. He uses a 11.5 infield glove now. He has average sized hand for his age. Do we look for the same size in a first baseman's mitt? Dback
At his age I would recommend an 11.50" glove. The Akadema Prodigy Series (AHC94-12) Youth First Base Mitt would be a good option for your son. However, he may desire having a longer glove within a season or two. It might not be a bad idea to look to something a little longer at 12 inches.
Jake
What is the weight of this glove? Canny
The Akadema Prodigy Series (AHC94-12 Youth First Base Mitt) weighs 20.7 ounces (About 1.25 lbs).
Frankie
I'm a youth first baseman looking for a good first base mitt. Would you recommend this glove or a different glove? Tic Taccy Glove
The Akadema Prodigy Series (AHC94-12 Youth First Base Mitt) would be an excellent option for you.
Jake
My son just turned 10 years old. I need to know what size first base mitt he needs. He throws left handed and he weighs 110 lbs. Which glove would you recommend? Doug
For a player who is 10 years old we would recommend getting a 1B mitt that is 12.00-12.25 inches. The Akadema Prodigy Series: AHC94-12 Youth First Base Mitt is an 11.50 inch model and can be used by a player who is 10 years old but might not necessarily be the best fit for your son.
Cameron
How does this glove compare to the Rawlings Sandlot in terms of durability and longevity? Josh
The Akadema Prodigy Series: AHC94-12 Youth First Base Mitt will be comparable to the Rawling Sandlot in regard to quality. Sandlot gloves are typically made for players that are a little older. If you're buying for a youth player, go with this Akadema. However, if you are buying for a player in their teen years or older, you might look to the Akadema.
