Description

Akadema's latest glove series is the Akadema Precision Series. The Precision Series uses Precision Kip Leather that is 20% lighter and tighter grained than steer hide. The hides are harvested in Europe and tanned in Japan. Ultimately, the Precision Series design provides the player with a more pliable glove. This allows for easier break-in. The Precision Kip Leather also provides more tensile strength than competing glove lines. The APM41 combines the quality of the Precision Series with the technology of the Praying Mantis design. The Akadema patent Praying Mantis is the most innovative catcher's mitt ever to hit the market, with many unique features setting it apart from the competition. With new patent "Stress Wedge" technology, located between the index finger and thumb, the Praying Mantis offers shock-absorbing protection for the hand against injury and sting when receiving the ball. The Praying Mantis also offers two additional "Finger Hammocks" allowing the fingers to be firmly positioned and more secure in the glove. Additional features include the Double-sided Slim Padding allowing for increased pocket size and easier ball retention. Uniquely designed shape allows the throwing hand easier access in the pocket, resulting in a quicker glove to hand transfer and faster times to second base. Akadema: Bring Your "A" Game! Pros: I didn't buy this glove from Akadema. I bought it at a "Pla_ it Agai_" store. I was actually looking for equipment for my sons Halloween costumes. We were directed to a section near where they had just moved the baseball gear to make room for the fall and winter sports. My youngest took one look and said to me, "Dad look gloves". He picked up an Akadema and it was to small, I grabbed the one under it and, Whoa! This was so perfect! Broken in and ready to play with, pardon my expression but, "It fits like a glove". I have to say I'm always impressed with Akadema gloves. They are always there at my son's tournaments with their tent. They have a great selection and all are made in the USA. This APM41 is really gorgeous! I don't know how someone could have possibly turned in such an awesome glove, unless they weren't interested in baseball anymore. You might not be as lucky as me, but all in all, the next glove my boys need will be from Akadema.

Cons: None

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Akadema Precision Praying Mantis 33" Baseball Catcher's Mitt: APM341? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

is the leather soft or hard and stiff? jwoo34
This particular model is designed with precision kip leather so it will have a softer, lighter feel.
Jeff
Which is better, APM 41 or AMP 42? Garrett
The difference is going to be the size of the glove and the APM41 is going to be a little lighter than the APM42. They both are going to be top of the line gloves that are going to have great durability.
Todd
What is the difference between this, and the USA 141? Joe
It is basically the same glove but the USA141 is a Patriot series glove that is made in the USA.
Mark
Should i get the Rawlings procm33dcc or the Akadema Apm41. I'm a middle school catcher. nate
That's a tough call. Most middle school age players use a catchers mitt between 32 and 32.5 inches. Both mitts are made from similar materials. I would give a slight edge to the Rawlings in terms of durability though.
Derek
whats the diference between this mitt and the apm241 000016
Higher grade leather, lighter weight.
Linda
How is breaking in a catchers mitt different/similar from breaking in any other glove? Brycemaniac
Breaking in a catcher's mitt will be the same as breaking in a fielder's glove.
Kara
How is the break-in process? Does it come similar to a Rawlings Pro Preferred? Jason
The Akadema Precision Series Praying Mantis will come with a short break-in period and it will be pretty soft once you receive it. A glove like the Rawlings Pro Preferred will require a longer break-in period compared to the Praying Mantis because the Pro Preferred uses higher grade leather.
Nick
What is the difference between this glove and the APM40? jcwell
The Akadema Precision Series Praying Mantis APM41 will have a fully closed web, whereas the Akadema Precision Series Praying Mantis will have a flexhinge for easy closer.
Damon
Is the part where you put your hand smaller than normal? Baseball catcher
The Akadema Precision Series Praying Mantis (APM41) has an average size hand opening.

About the Brand

In Akadema's short but remarkable history it has become one of America's hottest baseball and softball equipment company for professional, college, high school, and serious youth players. The Akadema phenomenon started with the Professional Glove Series and continues with the Reptilian®, Praying Mantis®, Pro Soft™ and Prodigy™ Glove Series as well as the Amish Wood™, Tacktion™ and Xtension® Aluminum Bat Series. Akadema's ownership attributes increasing market share to their innovative professional baseball and softball product line in contrast to mass-produced products that have little to do with quality, feel, or design to raise the level of play.

Akadema's products are manufactured for professional players but are now accessible to semi pro, college, high school, and serious youth players. Akadema products are still designed with the professional player in mind but competitively priced for the professional player at heart. So it's your turn to think like a professional, play like a professional, and use Akadema Professional!

Akadema now has both baseball and fastpitch softball advisory staffs that they work with closely to implement new ideas. Members of the baseball advisory staff include Hall of Famers Ozzie Smith and Gary Carter as well as Howard Johnson, Reggie Smith, Luis Polonia, Sandy Martinez and many others. Fastpitch stars that are on the advisory staff include Crystl Bustos and Julie Smith. The input on performance from the advisory staff gives Akadema something they cannot put a price on. Their advisors don’t talk about marketing or places to sell the gloves, they just care about performance.
