Description

Akadema is the most exciting baseball and softball company in the world. Akadema's ownership attributes an increasing market share to their innovative quality professional product line in contrast to mass-produced products that have little to do with quality, feel, or design that raise the level of play. Born to satisfy the needs of the competitive fastpitch player, the Akadema Fastpitch Design Series is handcrafted to increase your level of performance on the field. Constructed of U.S. Steerhide throughout the pocket and webbing, the back of the glove features exclusive AkademaLyte leather, decreasing the overall weight of the glove and allowing for a faster break-in period and a more manageable feel. Smaller finger stalls used to decrease the distance between the thumb and index finger and Akadema's Grasp Clasp wrist closure allow for increased playability for female fastpitch players. Pros: It seems like a nice glove although it will take a while to complete the break in period.

Cons: I probably would not have bought it if I would have known that it was Chinese made. I wanted an American made glove.

Pros: I bought this glove for my 10 year old daughter who plays on a travel team. She has small hands and this glove really fits her well. We looked at about 6 gloves and this was by far the least expensive, but the quality is on par with many more expensive gloves. It is made overseas, but if it was made here in the US it would be a $150+ glove. We steamed it and oiled the glove and played catch for about a week. Pretty close to broken in. Overall a great glove for the money and an excellent choice for someone with small hands.

Cons: It harder to close than a Mizuno (her previous glove) and is taking a little more break in than we anticipated, but much less break in than say a Nokona.

Pros: Great Glove, I bought one last year for my 14u and now just bought another one for my 16u because she would borrow it every chance she got. Both daughters play 3rd and both love this glove. You will not find a better glove for the price. High quality glove for a great price.

Cons: Haven't found one yet and we have one full year of ball behind us .

Rea's dad

Pros: Bought this glove for an average size 10 yr old. Fits her hand extremely well and she absolutely loves this glove. Deeper pocket than the easton natural elite she was using, and bigger glove even though both were stamped as 12" gloves. Break in was easy, little oil in pocket, few minutes with a ball mallet and glove was loose enough to use, not game ready yet but close enough.

Cons: Haven't found any

Pros: Originally was going to give this to my daughter so she could have her own glove and then realized this makes a perfect little league outfield glove for the young one who's hand is just a little large for the Prodigy series and even if his hands are not to big, the velcro helps keep the glove snug on the wrist. Leather is the same as Pro Soft so it's a step above the prodigy. He still uses the AZR-95 for middle infield. I still tell my daughter it's her glove, we're just borrowing it!

Cons: None!

Pros: Close to game ready out of the box. Daughter loved it for 3 months... then... it kept getting softer and softer...

Cons: Is a soft, floppy glove with no support. After 4 months she can't use it anymore.

Pros: Excellent web design. It is forgiving. Leather is soft and considered sticky as such which is great. Break in period is pretty quick. does require a little work-in but it is very reasonable. Will be buying again.

Cons: For a year round travel player the leather holds up very well. The down side is the leather becomes fatigued at the finger area allowing the mitt to feel floppy - this is a shame because the leather overall was still in very good shape. It was heavy use.

Pros: This review is more for the company, because they deserve it! I bought this glove for my niece for Christmas on Dec 21... the glove was on my front porch Dec 24! This shocked me, especially being it was so close to the holidays! Can't wait for my niece to try it out!!

Cons: None.

Pros: Quality glove very well made, the glove is a perfect fit for my 10 year old daughter. It's made for smaller hands and wrists.

Cons: The only thing that could improve this glove is all leather finger stalls. The cloth tends to rip after a lot of use, but for the price you can't beat it.

12U Dad

Pros: I felt this glove was mostly broken in as delivered. We applied some oil and used a mallet to complete the break in process. After a few practices, my daughter feels comfortable with the glove. The quality of the leather and the comfortable fit make this glove a can't miss!

Fastpitch utility

Pros: This is the 3rd Akadema glove if purchased for my girls. I have never had an issue with any of the gloves. They all broken in easy and with normal care, held up great. The girls like the feel of the glove, the light weight and hand size. Quick break in time and held up to years of travel team games, 7 to 8 every weekend. Great gloves

Cons: This glove is a disappointment. In less than a year this glove is falling apart. The lacing comes out halfway through the weekend, making repairs in between innings sometimes. The velcro on the wrist adjustment already came off, leaving it non functioning. My 11 year old, playing 14U A travel ball needs a glove that will hold up to the work expected. I hope Akadema's craftsmanship hasn't deteriorated. Looking for a better glove now.

Are RHT's available?
JAN
There are no right hand throwers available at this time. This is a popular model, and we should be getting more in. Check our site periodically. If it's on our site, it's in stock.
Bodie
How do you think this glove would work for an 11 yr old player? She plays shortstop and pitches.
kevin
This is definitly a glove she could use and grow into over the next several years. Typically, for 11 and 12 year olds a 11.5 to 12 inch glove is recommended. At 12 inches, this glove in on the high end of that scale and she shouldn't have a problem with it. I think it would be an excellent option.
Brett
Does this glove only come in 12 in model? How does the weight of this glove compare to the Akadema Reptilian model?
Softball Mom
In this specific style, a 12 inch is all that is made. However, the ABU73 is a 12.75 inch model, and the ACE70 is a 13 inch model. There will be no noticeable differences in weight between two models of the same size.
Brett
My daughter has a very small hand. She pitches and plays 2B on a 16U travel team. Her Nokona 13" is too big and heavy, particularly at 2B. Would this be a good choice? Any other recommendations?
andy
This should be a very good glove for her. This glove is not going to be as heavy as the Nokona and it will still be very durable. The glove will be one that is easier to break in and has a strap on it if the glove is still a little small.
Todd
Does this glove seem hold up well? Any other recommendations for pitcher/ 2nd base combo?
jc
The AJB74 is a well made glove, and should last well. Size wise it is the right size.
Linda
What ball glove do you recommend for a 9 year old girl in first year of kid's pitch. What size, 11.5, 11.75, or 12"?
randy45
An 11.5" glove may be the best fit for her right now. However, if you want a glove she can still use now, but grow in to, I would recommend an 11.75" or 12" model. If she's a little bigger than average, I would go 12". If she's on the smaller side, I would go 11.75".
Tyler
Does Akadema make a smaller version of this glove(fast pitch) for 7-8 year girls Ajb74? Other suggestions if not please.
Al
The Akadema Fastpitch Series does not come in any smaller sizes. The top fastpitch softball gloves smaller than 12" are the Mizuno Classic Fastpitch Series: GCF1151, Mizuno MVP Prime Fastpitch Series: GMVP1159P, Miken Super Soft Series: MS1134FP and Louisville Slugger TPS Valkyrie Fastpitch Series: VK1175.

My daughter is 5'1'' tall 14U outfielder who is now using a 12" Mizuno glove. Does the Akadema run big? Does it come in bigger size?
sparky
The Akadema Fastpitch Series (AJB74) has smaller finger stalls and an adjustable wrist strap so it will not run big and can be adjusted to any wrist size. Also, this glove unfortunately does not come in a bigger size.
Tom
I have any 10 year old that plays some 2nd base and outfield. Would this work for her?
brad
The Akadema Fastpitch Series (AJB74) is a utility glove that can work for both infield and outfield.
Frankie

Brian
The Akadema Fastpitch Series: AJB74 is not a model we still have in our showroom. Thus we would not be able to ascertain how much it weighs.

The Akadema phenomenon started with the Professional Glove Series and continues with the Reptilian®, Praying Mantis®, Pro Soft™ and Prodigy™ Glove Series as well as the Amish Wood™, Tacktion™ and Xtension® Aluminum Bat Series. Akadema's ownership attributes increasing market share to their innovative professional baseball and softball product line in contrast to mass-produced products that have little to do with quality, feel, or design to raise the level of play.

Akadema's products are manufactured for professional players but are now accessible to semi pro, college, high school, and serious youth players. Akadema products are still designed with the professional player in mind but competitively priced for the professional player at heart. So it's your turn to think like a professional, play like a professional, and use Akadema Professional!

Akadema now has both baseball and fastpitch softball advisory staffs that they work with closely to implement new ideas. Members of the baseball advisory staff include Hall of Famers Ozzie Smith and Gary Carter as well as Howard Johnson, Reggie Smith, Luis Polonia, Sandy Martinez and many others. Fastpitch stars that are on the advisory staff include Crystl Bustos and Julie Smith. The input on performance from the advisory staff gives Akadema something they cannot put a price on. Their advisors don’t talk about marketing or places to sell the gloves, they just care about performance.
