Description

For years, Rawlings has been the prominent name in major league glove usage. Their consistent standard of excellence is due to their leadership in innovative design development, verified by their numerous patented features, as well as Rawlings strict adherence to manufacturing only top quality gloves and mitts. The Heart of the Hide Pro Mesh Series is the perfect combination of weight and performance. Utilizing Pro Mesh and Heart of the Hide leather, these gloves do not sacrifice any durability or performance. This Heart of the Hide Pro Mesh model features the Vertical Hinge Web pattern, which is a single post reinforced bottom web that conforms to a smaller lighter web pattern desired by infielders. This allows players to better shape the pocket. With its 12" pattern, this glove features a flat, shallow pocket which allows fielders to get the ball out of the glove quickly. It works best for infield positions. Free Shipping!

Son of a pro

Pros: Good quality glove for the money. Takes about a week to break in and the mesh backing lightens the glove. Leather is of good quality and laces are of like quality. The design of this glove has the pitcher in mind. Glove is best suited for the high schoo/collegiate player and above.

Cons: Palm pad is minimal if that matters to you.

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Rawlings Heart of the Hide Pro Mesh Series: PRO12M? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

Is this glove black or a combination color? Drew
The color of the Rawlings Heart of the Hide Pro Mesh Series: PRO12M is all black. The other pictures on the website are from an earlier model.
Brett
can a 11 year old use this or will it be too big? ray
This is going to depend on what position the person wearing this glove is playing. Most infielders use an 11.00-11.50 inch glove. Most outfielders use a 12.00-12.50 inch glove. This is an adult glove that should fit an 11 year old.
Brett
Does Rawlings make a HOH model like this in all leather? nick
The closest options would be the PRO129SC or PRO12SBDC. Both these gloves are all leather and don't feature any mesh material.
Mark
With the pro mesh does that get dirty easily? Geese
The mesh backing is black, so it will not show dirt as easily as the lighter colored gloves.

is this a soft quick break-in glove or is it stiff from the factory? Brian
The Heart of the Hide Pro Mesh Series is made from high quality materials, but the Pro Mesh models will be a little easier to break in compared to the regular Heart of the Hide Series. The glove break in ratio for the Pro Mesh models is about %60 Factory and 40% Player. It will still require a week or so of break in time.
Tyler
The Rawlings website said this glove is an outfield glove, is this true? John
This really depends on the age of the player. A younger player would most likely use this as an outfield glove. However, an older player would use it as an infield/utility glove.
Kara
I used to have this glove and I liked it a lot. I was wondering which glove you would recommend for me to get next that is similar to this model? DJ
To get a model that would most closely replicate the features of this Rawlings Heart of the Hide Pro Mesh Series (PRO12M), I would recommend looking at the Rawlings Heart of the Hide Pro Mesh Series (PRO12DM). It will come with that Heart of the Hide Premium Soft Leather and Pro Mesh backing for a light weight feel and easier break-in. In addition, both gloves will have a 12.00" length.

About the Brand

Rawlings is a major manufacturer of competitive team sports equipment and apparel for baseball, basketball, and football, as well as licensed MLB, NFL, and NCAA retail products. Rawlings is a major supplier to professional, collegiate, interscholastic, and amateur organizations worldwide, including the Official Baseball Supplier to Major League Baseball.

The first real innovation in glove making occurred in 1912 when Rawlings Sporting Goods Company introduced the "Sure Catch" glove, which was "endorsed by leading players all over the country." The Sure Catch was a one-piece glove with sewn-in finger channels and looked better suited for a duck's foot than a man's hand. Catchers' mitts used at the time were large and bulky with a single leather thong passing for a web.

In 1920, Bill Doak, a journeyman pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, approached Rawlings with an idea for improving the baseball glove from a mere protective device to a genuine aid in fielding. The "Bill Doak" model was so revolutionary that it stayed in Rawlings' line until 1953. Its key feature was a multi-thong web laced into the first finger and thumb, which created for the first time in baseball's young life, a natural pocket.

In 1925, Rawlings unveiled a three-fingered fielder's glove, and ten years later improved the Bill Doak model with a two-piece leather web. At the same time, the "T" web became a rage for first basemen's mitts. The pocket underwent a pronounced change in 1941 when the Trapper Mitt, also known as the Claw, appeared. The "Deep Well" pocket was so unique that Rawlings quickly patented it. The design was improved in 1950 by adding a leather piece across the top. Another significant creation occurred in 1948 with the three-fingered Playmaker. A five-fingered fielder's model, with all fingers laced together, provided greater pocket control.

The six-fingered Trap-Eze evolved in the 1960's. In more recent years, Rawlings produced the Fastback design, which gives a glove a snugger fit, greater extension, and overall control. The Holdster is a slot through which a finger can be extended for additional protection from impacts on the pocket. Then, there is the Edge-U-Cated Heel with its extended U-shaped lacing and the Pro H Web and much-copied Basket Web.

Some of Rawlings's more recent glove innovations also include the unique Spin-Stopper design which reduces ball spin when the ball hits the glove, and the Cantilever glove design feature that provides a cushioned area between the hand and the glove's palm area. In all, Rawlings has produced and patented more functionally innovative glove features and designs than that of any other glove manufacturer. The result is that the modern baseball glove is much larger, more comfortable, better padded, and made to last far longer than its ancestors. It is not uncommon to see today's Major League players wearing the same Rawlings glove they wore during their college playing days. In fact, Rawlings is the #1 glove in the major leagues. Rawlings maintains about 65 models of baseball and softball mitts and gloves in its line. The prototypes of virtually all of them have been field-tested by professionals before entering a sporting goods dealer's inventory.
