As long as you select "Left Hand Thrower" under the Choose a Size option then you're good to go.

-This glove is made out of steerhide, so it will be a pretty durable glove. It's possible that it could last up to 4 years...but what kind of shape it's in at that time, I can't make any promises.
-In my opinion, it's no heavier than other gloves of the same leather and size.
-The pocket will be a little more shallow than other gloves of the same size.
-For $69.99 it's definitely worth the money. It would be hard to recommend any other mitts in the same price range over this one.
-This is made out of a durable steerhide leather and full-grain leather lacing. Catcher's mitts are made to withstand frequent use like you mentioned.

The abrasion guards are sewn on top of the leather. So, there are two layers, the abrasion guard material and then the leather of the glove.

Both are excellent options for those players who are looking for a game-ready catchers mitt. It really comes down to the preference of the player. The Sandlot series has a antique-type look and will have a slightly deeper pocket. The Nike N1 has a more modern, new look and will have a shallower pocket for quicker ball transfer. It just depends on what the specific player is looking for.

It may be just a little too big for a 12 year old. A 33.5 inch mitt like this one are more often used by High School and College age players. For 12 and 13 year olds, a 32 or 32.5 inch catchers mitt is more commonly recommended.

This glove should take about 3-4 days to break in before it is game ready. This glove is going to have a lot of padding and be a very durable glove.

For a catchers mitt, this will be moderately soft, but will still require a good break-in period. If you work with it everyday it should be good to go after about 2 weeks.

This glove will take about 2-3 days to break in. After those couple of days this glove will be game ready. This glove is going to be a very durable glove and going to be one of the better ones in this price range.

You may want to try and put a little more oil on the glove and just try and work with the glove. Try hitting the glove with a rubber mallet or hammer to get the leather softer.

The Nike N1 Air Series: BF1357 Catcher's Mitt is a baseball model and not suited for the bigger ball used in softball. We recommend using a fastpitch catchers model.
