Description

Mizuno is known for making it their priority to develop ball gloves for every age and skill level. The Prospect Series is tailor made to fit a young ball player's hand. Multiple technologies make it easier for younger players to close the glove, catch the ball and learn to love the game. These gloves help youth players catch the "right" way, in the pocket. Mizuno's patented PowerClose technology places "hinges" where players would close the glove to make squeezing the ball and making the catch as simple as can be! This Prospect Series glove features a V-Flex notch that gives the glove a break point to make closure even EASIER! Inside the glove, a ParaShock Palm Pad reduces all shock caused by impact and leaves the player's hand sting-free! This mitt also utilizes Mizuno's adjustable wrist strap to create a snug, comfortable and custom fit for every player. This model features a Flex Bridge modified closed back for ultimate control and a Tartan basket web to help players snag anything that comes their way! Mizuno: Be Yourself, Only Better! Pros: Good price point. 80% broken in from start. Good quality leather. Looks good. Has padded palm area which is nice since young ones don't always field the ball in the pocket! My 9 year old loves it.

Cons: None

Pros: Velcro strap for adjustability. Looks sharp.

Cons: Leather is too soft, won't hold it's shape in the long term. The external thumb pocket is a gimmick that isn't used. The v-flex notch is too high up, not placed at the natural crease point. Now looking for a better glove, this will become a spare glove.

Pros: Broke in very quick. Easy to use for small hands. Wonderful glove for the first year of use.

Cons: Lost shape and got floppy after one season. My 10YO is on his second one and it is at the point where we're looking for a new glove. As kids are throwing harder, the glove is having a hard time standing up to the pressure.

Pros: Durability, breaks in well, power close appears to function as designed. When stored properly, holds form well even when "butter" soft.

Cons: None at this time. I'm writing this review on an older version of this glove used by my son for 18 months. I'm now shopping for this glove for my twin boys who are entering year two of competitive travel ball. I'm baffled by the claims that the glove loses shape and won't hold up. After 3 LL seasons (fall/spring/fall) and a summer of travel baseball, my 11 yo's glove is in great shape. He stores in his bag with a glove form and while the glove is now butter soft, it holds its form and lays open properly for fielding when hand is relaxed.

Pros: My son just moved up to this glove from similar size 11in glove by Nike which was more of a kiddie play glove which was soft and not much leather. This one feels like quality construction and after some glove oil and breaking in over 10 days feels ready for the game. Leather quality is good and it offers a lot more padding than the Prospect model that my other son uses (Now discontinued) and better leather too. This should last a few years! We've been using it regularly for 6 months and still looks great.

Cons: None so far!

The Mizuno Prospect Series: GPL1103 Youth glove would be great for a beginner starting their baseball career. This glove is created with a baseball pattern. They do have this same series in a softball pattern. Checkout the Mizuno Prospect Fastpitch Series GPP1108.

Looks like a nice glove. My concern would be with the velcro strap wearing out and the plastic buckle cracking and breaking. Do you offer any kind of warranty on those items? Rick

The Mizuno Prospect Series: GPL1103 Youth will be too large for a small 6 1/2 year old. We recommend a 9.50" glove. Here is a link for some great choices; http://www.justballgloves.com/products/glove%20type~youth/size~%209.50/

My almost 8 year old son has been playing infield for past few seasons with a 10.5" Rawlings. As an all star this year he may be playing some outfield. Is the Mizuno Prospect GPL 1103 in 11" a good fit for him and how quickly will it break in? wes
The Mizuno Prospect Series: GPL1103 Youth would be an excellent choice for an eight year old outfielder. It will not require a long break-in period.
Kara
My son is 6 years old and 3'11", 50 lbs. What size glove would you recommend? He plays all positions except pitcher and first base. Matty
Based on his age, we recommend a smaller model than the Mizuno Prospect Series: GPL1103 Youth glove at 11.00". A 9.50" to 10.00" model would be more appropriate. The following is a link to our Glove Coach tool that helps with sizing http://www.justballgloves.com/glove-coach/
Aubrey
Would this be a good choice for an 8 yr old playing infield as well? Atrain
The power close system and soft material that the Mizuno Prospect Series (GPL1103) is made out of makes it a great option for a younger player. The size would be more geared toward a youth outfielder but could definitely be used by an infielder as well.
