Description

The most sought-after glove technology in years is now featured in premium Heart of the Hide ball gloves! The Heart of the Hide Solid Core Series from Rawlings features their popular Solid Core Technology that has revolutionized the way baseball gloves are made. Solid Core eliminates traditional lining inside the glove, and instead uses layers to cater to how a player catches the ball based on their position. These layers, combined with the absence of heel and palm lacing, result in a glove that is less time-consuming to break in, naturally easier to close, and fits better. The shell of the glove is made from Rawlings premium Heart of the Hide Leather. Handcrafted from the top 5% of steer hides, Heart of the Hide Leather is not only durable, but incredibly comfortable on your hand. This 12.00 inch pattern features a conventional open back and a basket web that combine to make this glove more flexible and easier to squeeze. With its deep pocket and closed web, this pattern is best suited for pitchers and infielders. Rawlings: The Finest in the Field! Free Shipping!

Pros: This is a great all around utility glove for any position..Rawlings quality is immediately obvious! The expected and required initial break-in period is no problem, so long as not needed for game action right away. But again, brand new and a bit stiff 'Heart of the Hide', it was expected...I have had my glove a little over a week now, and after getting my ballpayer son a new Rawlings Gamer, and playing quite a bit, it's nearly broken in, and truely fits my hand 'like a glove' as it were... This is my third Rawlings, and as I'm now 60 and playing less ball, and as it is of such great quality, it may be the last glove I'll ever need! I love my choice! Can't do better than JustBallGloves, and The Gold Glove Co.

Cons: Business is business, but I sure wish these gloves were made in the U S of A!

Have a question about the Rawlings Heart of the Hide Solid Core Series: PRO1203SC? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

Is this an older or discontinued model? I can't find any information about it elsewhere and the Rawlings website only mentions Traditional, Dual Core, and Pro Mesh series Heart of the Hide gloves. Elliot
The Rawlings Heart of the Hide Solid Core Series: PRO1203SC is a new series. The Solid Core Series has replaced the REVO 950 Series.

Is a 12 inch glove like this glove too small for a 14 year old outfielder? I am shopping for a outfielder glove and think 12.75" model is too big. I have found a couple 12.5" that interested me but this glove fits everything I like except I am not sure if the size is too small. jruss6
The Rawlings Heart of the Hide Solid Core Series: PRO1203SC is best suited for a utility player. A 12.50" glove would be a better option. The Rawlings Heart of the Hide Dual Core Series: PRO502DCC would be a good choice.

I split time on a select tournament team between Center Field and Pitcher. Can you recommend a glove that would be adequate for both positions? Nate
The Rawlings Heart of the Hide Solid Core Series: PRO1203SC glove could work well for you depending on your age. The 12" size and basket web would give you the needed features for both positions.
Brandon
Would this glove be a good fit for an adult male (6 foot) that plays pitcher? Ted
The Rawlings Heart of the Hide Solid Core Series: PRO1203SC would be a great fit for a pitcher. It is also very durable.
Kara
I'm 13 and playing high school ball next year. Would this be good for a center fielder and pitcher glove? kyle
The Rawlings Heart of the Hide Solid Core Series (PRO1203SC) would be perfect for a pitcher at that age. However, for outfield we would suggest using a 12.75" glove.
Aaron
I play third base, pitcher, and sometimes left field. Is this glove good for me? monkeyman11700
This Rawlings Heart of the Hide Solid Core Series (PRO1203SC) would be a great utility glove for someone that plays all of those positions (if you are 13+ years old). The 12.00" pattern size and closed web make this a perfect pitcher pattern, and many third basemen use a 12.00" glove. There really isn't a glove smaller than 12.50" that I would say would be perfect for playing outfield. But this 12.00" is the best compromise for infield and outfield play.

About the Brand

Rawlings is a major manufacturer of competitive team sports equipment and apparel for baseball, basketball, and football, as well as licensed MLB, NFL, and NCAA retail products. Rawlings is a major supplier to professional, collegiate, interscholastic, and amateur organizations worldwide, including the Official Baseball Supplier to Major League Baseball.

The first real innovation in glove making occurred in 1912 when Rawlings Sporting Goods Company introduced the "Sure Catch" glove, which was "endorsed by leading players all over the country." The Sure Catch was a one-piece glove with sewn-in finger channels and looked better suited for a duck's foot than a man's hand. Catchers' mitts used at the time were large and bulky with a single leather thong passing for a web.

In 1920, Bill Doak, a journeyman pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, approached Rawlings with an idea for improving the baseball glove from a mere protective device to a genuine aid in fielding. The "Bill Doak" model was so revolutionary that it stayed in Rawlings' line until 1953. Its key feature was a multi-thong web laced into the first finger and thumb, which created for the first time in baseball's young life, a natural pocket.

In 1925, Rawlings unveiled a three-fingered fielder's glove, and ten years later improved the Bill Doak model with a two-piece leather web. At the same time, the "T" web became a rage for first basemen's mitts. The pocket underwent a pronounced change in 1941 when the Trapper Mitt, also known as the Claw, appeared. The "Deep Well" pocket was so unique that Rawlings quickly patented it. The design was improved in 1950 by adding a leather piece across the top. Another significant creation occurred in 1948 with the three-fingered Playmaker. A five-fingered fielder's model, with all fingers laced together, provided greater pocket control.

The six-fingered Trap-Eze evolved in the 1960's. In more recent years, Rawlings produced the Fastback design, which gives a glove a snugger fit, greater extension, and overall control. The Holdster is a slot through which a finger can be extended for additional protection from impacts on the pocket. Then, there is the Edge-U-Cated Heel with its extended U-shaped lacing and the Pro H Web and much-copied Basket Web.

Some of Rawlings's more recent glove innovations also include the unique Spin-Stopper design which reduces ball spin when the ball hits the glove, and the Cantilever glove design feature that provides a cushioned area between the hand and the glove's palm area. In all, Rawlings has produced and patented more functionally innovative glove features and designs than that of any other glove manufacturer. The result is that the modern baseball glove is much larger, more comfortable, better padded, and made to last far longer than its ancestors. It is not uncommon to see today's Major League players wearing the same Rawlings glove they wore during their college playing days. In fact, Rawlings is the #1 glove in the major leagues. Rawlings maintains about 65 models of baseball and softball mitts and gloves in its line. The prototypes of virtually all of them have been field-tested by professionals before entering a sporting goods dealer's inventory.
