Pros: This glove is great! It was the first heart of the hide that I ever had and I love it! I got this glove two years ago when I was in eight grade. I waited to write the review to see how the glove would hold up. After two years it still is in great condition, and is a very durable glove. The leather still feels great. The thing I like most about this glove is that it's very soft but has never gotten to floppy or flimsy it still holds it's shape and I think it will for ever.

Cons: None at all

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Rawlings Heart Of The Hide Dual Core Series: PRO12MTDCC? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

Can this glove be used for an NCAA Division I college pitcher or does it break the Color rules for pitcher's gloves. Adam
I know the new rule says the glove has to be brown or black. It's a little confusing as to whether or not a two-tone glove can be used by a pitcher. Even so, the lacing in this glove is a light tan and would probably get kicked out of a NCAA game. To play it safe, I would steer clear of this glove if you are pitching in the NCAA.
Brett
Is the pocket/web large enough to be used for fastpitch softball? Rufus
You might have some trouble using this glove for fastpitch softball. The pocket is not going to be big enough to use in softball.
Brett
I am 6'9 with pretty large hands do you think I will be able to get my hand in this glove comfortably? If not any suggestions? Just Big
For someone that big, I would probably go with an 12.50-12.75. I think that the 12.00 will be to small for you.
Brett
Description says "Perfect for any position". Would the 12" Modified Trapeze be good for outfield as well as infield/pitcher? K-Dub
Yes. The modified trap is the most popular type of web for players who play multiple positions. I've been seeing more and more collegiate and professional ball players use modified trap gloves at multiple positions in the field.
JH
hey do you think this glove would be okay for high school pitching ? Cody
yes this glove would be okay for high school use
jose
Yes, this would be a good glove for someone to use for pitching in high school. This glove might be a little bigger then what most use for pitching, but it would still work. This is going to be one of the better gloves that we have.
Todd
Does this glove have a deep, standard or shallow pocket? Pinkbro
The Rawlings Heart of the Hide Dual Core is going to have a standard pocket size.
Sean
How is the leather quality of this glove? Will it take a long time to break in effectively if i plan on buying it towards the end of winter. I'll probably need it ready in about a month or less. Spencer Roman
The leather quality of this glove is tremendous. It will take a few weeks to break in but if you have a month to do so that should be plenty of time.
Jeff
What is dual core technology? What is the difference between this and regular Heart of the Hides? Jimmy Winter
The Dual Core Technology helps during the break-in process of the glove. There is an extra layer of material in the glove that's cut in a unique way to make the break-in process easier on the player. The regular Heart of the Hide Series does not feature the Dual Core Technology.
Ryan
How heavy is this glove? How long is this glove going to last before it gets flimsy hogtenbach
The Heart of the Hide is probably the most durable of the leathers. This glove weighs roughly 1.5 lbs.
Linda
Can a 12 year old use this for outfield? Sting of a Ray
Yes, a 12 year old can use this for outfield
Sean
I own a Wilson A2k and the leather is very soft. Will the Hoh be as soft? Hoh
Yes, the heart of the hide is going to have a very soft leather
Sean
Will this glove allow me to place both my pinky and ring finger in the slot where the pinky should be? 808boiz
No. This is a standard five finger glove.
K.B.
which is a better all purpose glove this one or the Rawlings Heart of the Hide Series: PRO11754JB michael8o5
Both use similar materials, and for me it would come down to size. And that depends on the age of the player and the positions they play. For a High School age player who plays multiple positions, the 12 inch PRO12MTDCC may be a better choice. For a middle school age player or a player who plays more infield, the 11.75 inch PRO11754JB may be better.
TJ
Would you suggest breaking this in differently than a normal heart of the hide because it is dual core and has softer leather? Or should I use the same glove oil that rawlings suggests for heart of the hide? Toby
I would use the same glove oil used on the Heart of the Hide gloves.
Kara
I'm 6 feet 2 inches and I play 3rd base. Is this glove going to fit good? and what are some ways I can tell what size glove I need? bigjoe25
This would be an excellent choice for a 3rd baseman. You can check out our glove coach to better determine the correct size.
KB
Is this good for a 13yr old outfielder? none
Yes, this would be a good glove for outfield.
John
I am 14yrs old would this be a good Left field glove?Or should i get a bit bigger glove?? none
Yes, this glove would be a perfect size for you.
Ryan
I'm 15 years old and looking for a Good outfielders glove to last me throughout High School, I'm 5'9 with pretty big hands, do you prefer this or should I go with a bigger size? JJ
This would be a great glove for you, we would normally recommend anything from a 12" to a 12.5", so this is a good fit.
Robb
would this glove be good for a 13yr old who plays 3rd base and outfield? james
Yes, this glove would be a good choice for a 13 year old who plays 3rd base and outfield.
Jennifer
Is this a good outfield glove for and 14 year old? Is this an outfield glove.
Yes, this is a vert good glove and will have a deep pocket. This glove should last many of seasons.
KG
Are you able to personalize this glove? Ricardo
Here at Ball Glove Warehouse we do not personalize gloves, but if you do want this done some manufacturers do this.
Brad
Would you recommend this glove or the Rawlings Gold Glove for an experienced 13-year-old baseball player? haydeng33
The Heart of the Hide will be a little higher quality and should be a little more durable. That's where I would lean. But both are excellent choices
Tyler
Would you recommend this glove or the Rawlings Gold Glove for an experienced 12-year-old baseball player? haydeng33
The Heart of the Hide will be more durable than the Gold Glove. It feels heavier because of the dual core. This is an adult glove, so the 12.00 might be too big. We suggest a 11.25 to 11.50 inch.
KB
Should I get an 11.5 or 12.0 for my 13 year old son? dj
The average size glove for a 13 year old will be 12 inches. If he primarily plays infield, a 11.5 inch model may be more suitable. If he primarily plays outfield, a 12.25 or 12.5 inch model by be more suitable. If he plays multiple positions, a 12 inch model would be the best choice.
Tyler
Is this glove suitable for an upcoming freshman in the out field or is a 12.75 going to be the best fit? will
The Rawlings Heart Of The Hide Dual Core Series: PRO12MTDCC would probably work, but most people use a 12.75.
Zach
Do you have this in 11.75? I have a 13 year old travel player who pitches, plays 3rd base and some outfield. He is 5" 8 -120 lbs. Need a glove
The only Heart of the Hide Dual Core Series gloves are the Rawlings Heart Of The Hide Dual Core Series: PRO17HDCC and Rawlings Heart Of The Hide Dual Core Series: PRO1175DCC.
Tyler
Do you have this exact glove in 12.25 or 12.5 inches? BaseBallFever15
The Rawlings Heart Of The Hide Dual Core Series: PRO12MTDCC is only available in a 12 inch model.
Zach
Can pitchers use this glove? Jesus
That depends on the specific league you play in. Most don't allow pitchers to use two-toned gloves like the Rawlings Heart Of The Hide Dual Core Series: PRO12MTDCC. However, you need to ask your coach or league official to make sure.
Tyler
Son in 9th grade, also, play seasonal travel. He is a lefty pitches and plays in outfield.Looking at this glove and Wilson2000 series. in size 12.Does these gloves have too much openings and does the color have to be the same all over for pitching. What would you recommend? Is the 11 3/4 too small for those positions? Thanks Jude
The Rawlings Heart Of The Hide Dual Core Series: PRO12MTDCC modified trapeze web type is common for a utility player. The glove does not have to be the same color. However, the glove cannot be white. We recommend the 11.75" glove for his age and position.
Kara
I play OF and 2B in High School and I am working on 3B and SS for the future, is this a good glove? It has a trapeze pattern (for OF) and it is a good size, does it have a deep enough pocket but shallow enough to play IF? Keller
At 12", the Rawlings Heart Of The Hide Dual Core Series: PRO12MTDCC is a great option for a High School utility player. Web type comes down to personal preference and modified trapeze webs are commonly used by infielders. It offers a standard size pocket, average in depth.
Tyler
Does the 12" model have wool padding for extra cushioning just like the 11.5" and 11.75" models? Aaron
Yes. The Rawlings Heart Of The Hide Dual Core Series: PRO12MTDCC features wool padding for a little extra protection.
Tyler
How does this glove compare to the Miken Super Soft 12.00" glove? Will you get this glove in right hand thrower? ryan f
The Rawlings Heart Of The Hide Dual Core Series: PRO12MTDCC will have a much higher leather quality than the Mike Super Soft glove will. We will be getting this Heart of the Hide in stock sometime in the next 3 weeks.
Noah

Noah
Would this glove be good for a 13 year lefty that plays center field? ballplayer
The Rawlings Heart Of The Hide Dual Core Series: PRO12MTDCC is designed for a utility player. We recommend a 12.50" Rawlings Gamer Dual Core Series: GDC1250.

About the Brand

Rawlings is a major manufacturer of competitive team sports equipment and apparel for baseball, basketball, and football, as well as licensed MLB, NFL, and NCAA retail products. Rawlings is a major supplier to professional, collegiate, interscholastic, and amateur organizations worldwide, including the Official Baseball Supplier to Major League Baseball.

The first real innovation in glove making occurred in 1912 when Rawlings Sporting Goods Company introduced the "Sure Catch" glove, which was "endorsed by leading players all over the country." The Sure Catch was a one-piece glove with sewn-in finger channels and looked better suited for a duck's foot than a man's hand. Catchers' mitts used at the time were large and bulky with a single leather thong passing for a web.

In 1920, Bill Doak, a journeyman pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, approached Rawlings with an idea for improving the baseball glove from a mere protective device to a genuine aid in fielding. The "Bill Doak" model was so revolutionary that it stayed in Rawlings' line until 1953. Its key feature was a multi-thong web laced into the first finger and thumb, which created for the first time in baseball's young life, a natural pocket.

In 1925, Rawlings unveiled a three-fingered fielder's glove, and ten years later improved the Bill Doak model with a two-piece leather web. At the same time, the "T" web became a rage for first basemen's mitts. The pocket underwent a pronounced change in 1941 when the Trapper Mitt, also known as the Claw, appeared. The "Deep Well" pocket was so unique that Rawlings quickly patented it. The design was improved in 1950 by adding a leather piece across the top. Another significant creation occurred in 1948 with the three-fingered Playmaker. A five-fingered fielder's model, with all fingers laced together, provided greater pocket control.

The six-fingered Trap-Eze evolved in the 1960's. In more recent years, Rawlings produced the Fastback design, which gives a glove a snugger fit, greater extension, and overall control. The Holdster is a slot through which a finger can be extended for additional protection from impacts on the pocket. Then, there is the Edge-U-Cated Heel with its extended U-shaped lacing and the Pro H Web and much-copied Basket Web.

Some of Rawlings's more recent glove innovations also include the unique Spin-Stopper design which reduces ball spin when the ball hits the glove, and the Cantilever glove design feature that provides a cushioned area between the hand and the glove's palm area. In all, Rawlings has produced and patented more functionally innovative glove features and designs than that of any other glove manufacturer. The result is that the modern baseball glove is much larger, more comfortable, better padded, and made to last far longer than its ancestors. It is not uncommon to see today's Major League players wearing the same Rawlings glove they wore during their college playing days. In fact, Rawlings is the #1 glove in the major leagues. Rawlings maintains about 65 models of baseball and softball mitts and gloves in its line. The prototypes of virtually all of them have been field-tested by professionals before entering a sporting goods dealer's inventory.
