Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Rawlings Gold Glove Gamer Series: GG204G? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

would this glove break-in, in a few days jr
It may not be completely broken in in just a few days. But if you work with it a lot it should be good to go and able to be used in a game.
Mark
do you have to use the glove oil to break it in all the way? hi
No, you do not have to use glove oil. Repetition is key and the more you work with your glove the quicker it will break-in. Glove oil will help, but you still need to work with your glove on a daily basis until it is broken in.
Brett
is this a out field glove somekid
It depends on the age of the player. For a High School age player, it would probably be too small for the outfield. For someone around 10 years old it would be a pretty good size for an outfield glove.
JH
Is this glove appropriate for an 8 year old? Mad Max
The most common size gloves for 8 and 9 year olds are between 10.5 and 11 inches. This glove may be just a little too big for him now, but he'll be able to use it and grow into it for the next several seasons.
JH
Is this an appropriate glove for a high school shortstop? brady
Yes. At 11.5 inches, this would be a great glove for a High School shortstop.
JH
Is this the correct size for a 13 year old third baseman? nickname
Yes. An 11.5 glove is most common for 13 and 14 year old third basemen.
JH
IS this a good pitchers & outfield mitt for an 11 year old? if not what is? COOPTHEMONARCH
An 11.5 inch glove is an excellent size for an 11 year old who pitches and plays outfield. The modified trap web is a good style for a pitcher or outfielder. This will be a very good option.
Brett
My son wants a Rawlings glove for next season. He currently has a 11 inch Mizuno. He will be 13 next year and plays at 1st, 3rd, pitcher and outfield. We have a 12 inch 1st basemens glove already. Would you recommend this glove and what is the difference between this and the more expensive Rawlings gloves? Joe
This glove should work very well for your son. The average size glove for a 13 year old who plays multiple positions is between 11.5 and 12 inches. The higher priced Rawlings gloves like the Pro Preferred and Heart of the Hide are made with higher quality materials and will display more durability and longer lasting performance.
Brett
I bought this glove for my daughter she plays baseball & fastpitch softball do you think it will be ok or will she need a seperate fast-pitch softball glove? if so can you recommend one similar to this baseball glove- she loves it. 5brownz
That is really a personal preference. She may feel she can use the same glove just fine or she may feel she needs a fastpitch glove for softball. If she decides to go with a separate glove, you may want to go up to a 12 inch fastpitch model. A similar option would be the Gold Glove Fastpitch GG20FPBR
Mark
Does this glove have a lining in the strap, like the other more expensive models? It looks like its wool or similar material. Lenny
Yes, the gold glove gamer series will have a lining on the inside of the wrist strap
Sean
for a highschool varsity shortstop would you wear this or another glove? if so what glove David
This is a good size glove for an infield player. This glove is durable and will last many seasons at a high level.
KG
Is this a good glove for a second baseman/third baseman for high school fast pitch? If not, what is a good glove? I'm looking for a glove that will allow me to get rid of the ball quickly. Also, is a 12" glove the right size? rgar
This is a baseball glove and is not made for fastpitch softball. However, a 12 inch glove is the correct size.
Kara
I am looking @ this glove for my 11 year old son who spends most of his time @ catcher but also plays 3rd base as well. Is this a good glove for 3rd base? LC
Yes, this a very good glove for a 3rd baseman
John
Would you recommend this glove to play softball 2nd base? L. Rod
Yes, this would be a good glove for 2nd base in softball
John
is this glove to ok for a 9 year old playing third base? jdog
For a 9 year old playing third base, an 11 inch model would be a better option. A 11.5 inch glove like this one would be better for a third baseman around 12-14 years old.
Tyler
is 11.5 inches big enough for me. im in high school and i play shortstop and 2nd base? John
It sure is. An 11.5 inch glove is a great size for a middle infielder at the High School leve.
Tyler
My son has just turned 9. He plays a lot of shortstop (and a lot of baseball). We're trying to determine if the GG204G or the GG1125G would be the best glove for him at this point. navakahn
Based on his age and position the GG1125G would be a better selection. It is an adult glove, however the GG1125G does run small, so for a young player, it would be a good choice.
Kara
For an experienced fourteen year old that plays all around the infield would this be a good durable glove for him? CONNER42
Yes, the GG204G is a very good glove for a 14 year old infielder. The 11.50" size is very common for that age group in the infield
Sean
Is this glove ok for a Pitchers position? Bambino
Yes. The Rawlings GG204G is a good glove for a pitcher.
Tyler
How deep is the pocket? Is it easy to break in? zac
The Rawlings Gold Glove Gamer Series: GG204G will have an average size pocket and will be easy to break in.
Tom
I have a 11.50" mizuno glove that feels tight on the fingers. Are the fingers of this glove small? By the way I am 15 and I play middle infield. Andrew
Unless the Mizuno you currently have is a youth model, then the finger stalls and hand opening would be comparable in both the Rawlings and Mizuno gloves.
Tom
Which glove would be better for third base the Rawlings Gold Glove Gamer Series: GG204G or the Rawlings Gold Glove Gamer Series: GGNP5G? alberto
The Rawlings Gold Glove Gamer Series: GG204G is an infield model and would be better suited for a third baseman.
Kara
Is this glove good for most infield positions? codie
Yes, the Rawlings Gold Glove Gamer Series: GG204G is 11.50" which could be used for 2nd base, shortstop, or 3rd base.
Tom
Do you have GG209B available in 11.50"? How much will it cost me? ROLI
No, we are currently sold out of the GG209B. Here is a link to view the Rawling Gold Glove Gamer Series Gloves that do come in 11.50". http://www.justballgloves.com/products/size~11.50/?s=gold+glove+gamer+series
Tom
Hey I was just wondering if this glove is shipped with the wrist laces or whatever on the largest setting. Sorry if confusing. First Time Glove Buyer
The Rawlings Gold Glove Gamer Series is shipped with the largest setting. The wrist straps are not adjustable.
Kara
Would this be a good glove for a 10 year old with small hands? He plays spring thru fall and the youth models breakdown to fast. He's left handed and prefers Rawlings in black so his choices are limited. mclellan_a
The Rawlings Gold Glove Gamer Series: GG204G is a full size glove that will probably feel a little on the large size for a 10 year old with small hands. This glove is more popular among upper middle school and high school age players.
Tyler
I accidentally bought the 14 inch Louisville Slugger glove. I play middle infield. Should I stay with my current glove or buy this glove? I am 13 and play middle infield but also some outfield. Noah
The Rawlings Gold Glove Gamer Series: GG204G is a great glove for middle infielders but will be a little too small to use in the outfield.
John
What is the diff. between GG204G (Gamer) and the GG204? Laker
The GG204 is simply an older model that is no longer in production. The GG204G is the current model within Rawlings' line.
Tyler
My hands are not huge and are not small, I am 15 and was wondering if my hand would fit inside this glove with relative ease. This being an Adult glove I assume so? Bailey
The Rawlings Gold Glove Gamer Series: GG204G glove is an adult model. It is an 11.50" model. Typically, high school and college middle infielders or pitchers will use this glove. It will be too small to use if you are an outfielder.
Brandon
Hello, I was wondering if this glove would be suitable for outfield. I've been using a 11.5 in for along time. Would it make a difference if a decided on staying with 11.5 or go up to at least a 12 in glove? Jon
Glove sizing comes down to the age of the player. I recommend our Glove Coach. It's a great tool: http://www.justballgloves.com/glove-coach/
Tyler
I am 12 years old. I was wondering if this glove would be good for a left fielder? Rey
The Rawlings Gold Glove Gamer Series: GG204G might be slightly small for you at 11.50". We recommend a 12.00" glove for a 12 year old outfielder, such as the Rawlings Gold Glove Gamer Series: GG12XTCG.
Katie
Does this glove run true to size, because it is being said that it is bigger than a normal 11.75"? Ben
The Rawlings Gold Glove Gamer Series: GG204G should run true to size. Typically, all gloves manufactured by Rawlings will be this way.
Brandon
I tried on the GGNP5G and noticed that the tips of my fingers felt tight within the finger stalls. I have an average men's large hand. Will the finger stalls loosen up with use? Broken Halo
The finger stalls on all gloves, including the Rawlings Gold Glove Gamer Series: GG204G, will loosen up during the break-in process. If they are painfully narrow however, you will probably need to move up to a larger size glove.
Kevin
How do you break this glove in fast. nickname
The Rawlings Gold Glove Gamer Series: GG204G has a 50% factory break-in. Fill free to check out the video on our website, that shows the best way to break in a glove.
Chad M.
I'm just looking for a decent inexpensive glove to play catch with my son and maybe some weekend church games. Is this a good glove for my intended uses? Dr Chuck
If you are looking for something to use recreationally, I may recommend something a little bigger than the 11.5" Rawlings Gold Glove Gamer Series: GG204G. The Gold Glove Gamer Series would definitely be a great choice for you, but a better size option would be the Rawlings Gold Glove Gamer Series: GGNP5G.
Tyler
I am under the left hand throw section, but the picture shows a right hand throw glove. Are the gloves actually left handed thrower gloves? Lefty
The picture is only going to show the left handed or right handed version of the Rawlings Gold Glove Gamer Series: GG204G, but we do have both available in stock.
Noah
Does this glove have a shallow pocket, and would you recommend it for a 15 yr. old middle infielder? Mac Pender
The Rawlings Gold Glove Gamer Series: GG204G, with its 11.50" pattern size and Modified Trapeze Web, will have a shallow pocket that would help with the transfer of the ball from the glove to the throwing hand. This would be a great option for a 15 year old middle infielder.
Mac
Why would this glove be to small for outfield use at the high school level? Josh
The Rawlings Gold Glove Gamer Series (GG204G) has an 11.50" pattern and is typically used by infielders. The smaller design is to provide a player with the transfer. The smaller pattern helps a player get the ball out of the glove. Outfielders typically want a bigger glove like a 12.50" or 12.75" because it provides a player with a longer reach and more ability to snag fly balls. You do not need as quick of a transfer when you are in the outfield.

About the Brand

Rawlings is a major manufacturer of competitive team sports equipment and apparel for baseball, basketball, and football, as well as licensed MLB, NFL, and NCAA retail products. Rawlings is a major supplier to professional, collegiate, interscholastic, and amateur organizations worldwide, including the Official Baseball Supplier to Major League Baseball.

The first real innovation in glove making occurred in 1912 when Rawlings Sporting Goods Company introduced the "Sure Catch" glove, which was "endorsed by leading players all over the country." The Sure Catch was a one-piece glove with sewn-in finger channels and looked better suited for a duck's foot than a man's hand. Catchers' mitts used at the time were large and bulky with a single leather thong passing for a web.

In 1920, Bill Doak, a journeyman pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, approached Rawlings with an idea for improving the baseball glove from a mere protective device to a genuine aid in fielding. The "Bill Doak" model was so revolutionary that it stayed in Rawlings' line until 1953. Its key feature was a multi-thong web laced into the first finger and thumb, which created for the first time in baseball's young life, a natural pocket.

In 1925, Rawlings unveiled a three-fingered fielder's glove, and ten years later improved the Bill Doak model with a two-piece leather web. At the same time, the "T" web became a rage for first basemen's mitts. The pocket underwent a pronounced change in 1941 when the Trapper Mitt, also known as the Claw, appeared. The "Deep Well" pocket was so unique that Rawlings quickly patented it. The design was improved in 1950 by adding a leather piece across the top. Another significant creation occurred in 1948 with the three-fingered Playmaker. A five-fingered fielder's model, with all fingers laced together, provided greater pocket control.

The six-fingered Trap-Eze evolved in the 1960's. In more recent years, Rawlings produced the Fastback design, which gives a glove a snugger fit, greater extension, and overall control. The Holdster is a slot through which a finger can be extended for additional protection from impacts on the pocket. Then, there is the Edge-U-Cated Heel with its extended U-shaped lacing and the Pro H Web and much-copied Basket Web.

Some of Rawlings's more recent glove innovations also include the unique Spin-Stopper design which reduces ball spin when the ball hits the glove, and the Cantilever glove design feature that provides a cushioned area between the hand and the glove's palm area. In all, Rawlings has produced and patented more functionally innovative glove features and designs than that of any other glove manufacturer. The result is that the modern baseball glove is much larger, more comfortable, better padded, and made to last far longer than its ancestors. It is not uncommon to see today's Major League players wearing the same Rawlings glove they wore during their college playing days. In fact, Rawlings is the #1 glove in the major leagues. Rawlings maintains about 65 models of baseball and softball mitts and gloves in its line. The prototypes of virtually all of them have been field-tested by professionals before entering a sporting goods dealer's inventory.
