Description

Mizuno has once again made it their priority to develop the games most exclusive line of ball gloves. One of those series is the Prospect Series. Mizunos patented PowerClose technology is unmatched in the industry. Others may try to duplicate, but no technology closes as easily. Multiple technologies like Pocket2, PowerClose, PowerLock, V-Flex, Side Bar, and SureFit Foam, afford the youth player the best options to make catching easy. The V-Flex helps initiate easy closure while the PowerClose makes it easier for younger players to close the glove and catch the ball. The Parashock palm pad with buttersoft and SureFit Foam lining in select Prospect Series models reduce shock to minimize "sting" while delivering superior feel and comfort. Above all, the PowerClose design MAKES CATCHING EASY! Free Shipping.

Lefty

Pros: Decent first position glove for the young first baseman. No break-in required, ready to use. Light weight, easy to handle and close.

Cons: Lightweight leather doesn't hold up - glove was very floppy after less than a full season (probably 20-25 games). Edging and lacing looking frayed in several spots. Pricey unless you buy on sale

Pros: wide area to field the ball and easier for the child to keep his glove open. nice closing system (bought the Prospect two years ago and their isn't a better glove to help make sure your child has success in closing the glove on the ball, and it fields the ball better than most due to it's wide design). This glove is great too, just needs a bit of breaking in, but will take less than others. Also bought the A0700 which is better leather, but will take longer and also runs much larger than described (too large for my 11 1/2 YO. Bought from justgloves.com because of the no hassle return, the prices are good and the selection is great (and no I don't work for this company or any sporting goods company).

Cons: None

Pros: The was a great purchase for my 8 yr old son. Shipping was quick the glove was pretty much broke in right out of the box. Recieved it Wednesday and used it in tournament that Saturday. The wrist strap is really good in case your child has small hands. For the price you can't beat this glove. My son loves his. I recommend for ages 7-12.

Pros: Good design and nice two tone look. Velcro closure and 12" size make it a good fit for larger 9yr olds up to 11-12yr olds.

Cons: Stiff break in, needs more time and oil treatments before game ready. Gold paint graphics were faded or rubbed off by the 3rd use.

Pros: My son has had this first base mitt for only 3 weeks. He got it the last week of regular rec season. He has played a total of 4 games with travel ball and loves this mitt. With all stars ramping up we are glad we purchased a Mizuno. It was easy to break in! We have bought Mizuno for all of our boys and tried some other brands as well. Mizuno has always been their favorite!

Cons: The laces got loose in a couple of days, but no big deal.

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Mizuno Prospect Series: GXF101 Youth First Base Mitt? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

is this glove good for a 7 year old dre
In my opinion, this will be a little too big for a 7 year old. Most 7 year olds can get by with using a regular fielders glove at first base. If you're set on getting a first base mitt, I wouldn't go any larger than a 11.5 inch.
Jeff
Will this glove work for a 11 year old girl playing fastpitch softball or is it made for baseball? Kim
This glove is made for baseball. If you are looking for a softball glove, you will need to be looking for gloves that say fastpitch.
Brett
is this the right glove size for 1st base- i'm 11 years old or do i need 12.5 anthony
It really comes down to personal preference, but a 12.5 inch glove is usually recommended for players 13 and older. The most common size first base mitt for an 11 year old is 12 inch. However, a 12.5 inch mitt will give you plenty of room to grow into over the next several seasons. I would recommend going to a local sporting goods store and trying on some different size gloves (if you have that option).
John
This would definately be a glove that I would recommend for you. However, you could probaly use a 12.5" & be fine with that, as well.
Bodie
I've been using this glove that belongs to a friend and I have to return it, so I need to order one. His says: GXF 101 RG. Does it only come in one size, because I don't see a size on it. Thanks. Also, how do I get it broken in quickly because the season is starting soon. Ray
This glove only comes in a 12 inch model. This will be pretty soft to start with, but I would recommend applying glove oil to the entire surface of the glove using a cloth or sponge. Then place a ball in the pocket and wrap the glove with some bands. Let it sit overnight and the next day you can play some catch with it. After a few sessions of catch it should be ready to go.

Does it come in 13 inches or bigger? Cat25
Unfortunately, it does not. This is the only size.
Jon
im 9 should i use it because ive played first base since i was 6? RYNO
This is a great mitt for a 9 year old. This is a 12 inch mitt and that is the recommended size for 9 to 10 year olds.
John
My son is 10 and has played !st base for 2 seasons now. I want to buy him a 1st basemans glove. Is 12" the right size for him? Or should I stay with 11.5 which is what he uses now for infield? tr
Thanks for the Question! Typically First base mitts range from 11.5 to 14 inches in length. The 11.5 inch models are usually youth sizes and 12/13 inch mitts are the most common size you may see. Either size would be effective depending on your son and your own preferences. If you want to move to a 12 inch model then the Mizuno Prospect Series: GXF101 is a great glove! If you decide to stay with the 11.5 the Mizuno Prospect series: GPT 1151 Youth and the Mizuno Prospect series: GPT 1153 Youth may be worth a look as well. I've personally owned a Mizuno though and I can tell you from experience that its a great brand to own!
Kole
What size first baseman glove should a 13-14 year old be using. Right now he is still using his Miz GXF101 12inch (been a GREAT GLOVE). Miller
We would recommend anywhere between a 11.75 and 12.75 inch glove for that age range.
Damon
My son is 11 and mostly plays first base and pitches. But can be put in other positions from time to time. Would this glove still work for him? BusyDad
The Mizuno Prospect Series: GXF101 Youth First Base Mitt should only be used when playing first base. If he is wearing it on the mound or in the outfield it should not hurt his performance though.
Brandon
My son is 9 years old what is the best fit size for his age? Moi
We recommend a 11.50" first base mitt for his age.
Kara
My 10 year old has been starting at first base for a few years. I think it's time to get him a first baseman's mitt. Looking to buy one under $225. This glove has good reviews as does the Akedema ADJ154-12. Which would you go with? Or maybe you would recommend another? doug
Those are two good choices. I really like the Rawlings Gold Glove Legend Series: GGLFM18 First Base Mitt. It is really easy to break in it has a great palm pad to help with any stinging and has soft moldable full grain leather.
Chad M.
I'm hunting for a first base glove for my boy, he is 12 and will be 13 in August. He is 5'6" 120 lbs. What size should i get him? baysdad
Based on his age, we recommend a 12.00" to 12.25" model. At 12.00", the Mizuno Prospect Series: GXF101 Youth First Base Mitt would be a great option. For further information on sizing, please visit our Glove Coach at http://www.justballgloves.com/glove-coach/
Aubrey
Does this come in a left handed glove? zach78
The Mizuno Prospect Series: GXF101 Youth First Base Mitt comes in both a right hand thrower and left hand thrower.
Tori
Is this glove good for 11U travel ball? 55
The Mizuno Prospect Series (GXF101) youth first base mitt would be a good option for an 11U player that would require a youth model glove with smaller finger stalls and hand openings.
Patrick
I'm looking for a glove for my 10 1/2 year old daughter who plays travel ball. What do you suggest for fastpitch? B
I would probably suggest taking a look at the Mizuno Prospect Fastpitch Series: (GPP1155) Youth. This model is designed for fastpitch, and will also have a lot of great technology to provide young players with added comfort and protection. It also has great customization technology to help give players the perfect fit, every time.
Merritt
I currently have two first base mitts. One of them is a hand me down, and the other is a decent glove, but the ball won't stay in the glove. I play on a travel team moving up to the 13U level. Would you recommend this glove for me? My friend owns one, and I like the way it closes easily. josh32tiger
The Mizuno Prospect Series: (GXF101) Youth First Base Mitt would be an excellent option to take a closer look at. It incorporates game-ready Dakota Leather, a ParaShock Palm Pad, and easy Power Lock Closure technology. It is an ideal model for First Base, and will also have a deep, wide pocket to make catching almost effortless.
Merritt
What first base mitt would you suggest for a 9 year old boy? Also, what glove would you suggested for when he plays 2nd or short stop? RayRay
The Mizuno Prospect Series (GXF101 Youth First Base Mitt) would be a great first base mitt choice. Another option could be the Akadema Prodigy Series (AHC94-12 Youth First Base Mitt). It will be slightly smaller at 11.50". A good middle infield glove choice is the Mizuno MVP Prime Future Series (GMVP1125PY1). It will be 11.25" in size.
