Easy break in; great size for the beginning catcher; flexible; solid padding and protection; plays the hard pitches and the pop ups equally well. The ease of break in and use are perfectly suited to the beginning catcher trying to develop his basic skills set and hand strength.

My son started catching at 9 years old and has been using this mitt for a year and a half. He absolutely loves this mitt, it is easy to squeeze and gives him adequate padding for receiving pitches in the 9 to 11 year old levels of select and little league ball. Recently, the laces broke in half when he tagged a runner at home plate and the runner's cleats got caught in them. When we looked for a replacement mitt, he was adamant about getting the exact same mitt. The fast break in came in handy as he had to play with it the next day.

My kid just turned 9 years old. He has been playing with a 10.5" LS Genesis series. He wants to play catcher. Wouldn't this mitt too big for him? Does it have enough padding for future harder leagues?

Would this be a good glove for a 14 year old?
Generally, a 32 or 32.5 inch catcher's mitt is recommended for a 14 year old. This is also a youth mitt that will fit smaller. If you want a mitt he can use through High School, I would recommend looking at mitts a little bigger.
whats a good mitt for a small 8 yr old
Many 8 year old catchers use a regular fielders glove at the catchers position. If you want an actual catchers mitt, I would look at a 31 inch mitt. The Akadema ADS90 and Louisville OCXCM are a few good options.
