I would not recommend this glove for softball. The pocket in the glove will not be big enough for softball. The pocket is made for a baseball.

This glove is made from steerhide leather. It will be average in weight for 12.5 inch first base mitts and will weigh between 23 and 24 ounces. 12.5 inches is the most popular size first base mitt and Nokona just choose to make that size in their Bloodline series.
