Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Mizuno MVP Prime Fastpitch Series: GMVP1258P? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

My 14yr old daughter is starting high school softball this year. She normally plays outfield and has a 13in outfielders glove. The coach is moving her around at third and 2nd base. Would this glove be suitable for those positions or would a 12in or 12.25 be better? Jeff
A 12 inch glove is average for 14 year old infielders playing fastpitch softball. A 12.25 inch glove may be a better fit at 3rd base and provide a little more room to grow into. A 12 inch model may be better for her at 2nd base.

My 10 year old daughter is playing infield on a travel ball team. She mostly plays 3rd and 1st (and some outfield) I am partial to Nokona gloves. How does this leather compare to the Buckaroo by Nokona? Do you recommend a 12" or 12.25" for her? Is this a glove that can last through high school? Scotty
The GMVP1258P is made from high quality steerhide leather that will be similar to Nokona's Buckaroo leather in terms of strength. The Kangaroo leather used in Nokona's Buckaroo Series is a little lighter in weight, so the GMVP1258P may weigh just a little more compared to a similar size glove in Nokona's Buckaroo Series. I believe a 12.25 or 12.5 inch glove would be too big for a 10 year old, but if you want a glove she can use through High School, then you may have to go witha 12.25 or 12.5 (and I would lean towards a 12.5 inch glove for a High Schooler). It may be big for her now so make sure you give her plenty of time before the season starts to work with it until she becomes comfortable using it.

I have an 11 yr old that has been using a mizuno 11.5 for playing SS and 2nd base. They have playing with a 11" ball. She will be using a 12" ball in the fall. What size glove should I consider? Thanks Kevin
With a 12' ball, I would not go any smaller than a 12.25-12.50 inch glove. I believe that you will be very happy with these size gloves.

I bought this glove about 3 months ago and it srtill hurts my daughters hand. She ended up with a blister on the inside of the thumb. And on the back of the hand where the strap tighten acorss the back of the hand. It is still very (hard as a rock) not like the last Mizuno I bought. What can I do with it Tedd
This is a higher quality fastpitch softball glove and depending on the age and hand size/strength of the player, it may be easier for some break-in. For High School and College age players, this glove should be pretty easy to break-in. A younger player with smaller hands may struggle a bit more breaking it in. You can try to soften the glove by using glove oil, or you can always send the glove back to us for a refund or exchange.

is this a good glove for short stop travel fastpitch? bob
Generally a 12.50 inch glove is too big for shortstop. Most shortstops prefer a shorter, shallow pocket, for ease of getting the ball out of the glove quickly. For fastpitch, a good size for infield positions is like 11-12 inch gloves. Mizuno has a couple of models that are exactly like this one, just smaller. The GMVP1155P is the 11.50 inch model, and the GMVP1208P is the 12inch model. Keep in mind our 100 day guarantee, if the sizing is wrong, you can send it back and try the other size.

our daughter is a 12 year old pitcher, would this be a good glove and what size do you think? she has a 12.5 now chris
Generally, pitchers and infielders, use slightly smaller gloves. The most common size is a 12 inch. Keep in mind we do offer our 100 day guarantee if the sizing is wrong for her.

Hey the glove coach said this was a good 20 year old baseball glove but I think it might be a softball glove? help lightning
This is a Girls fastpitch glove and will have smaller finger stalls that may not fit you. Check out other gloves without the word "Fastpitch" in the title and they will be baseball gloves.

how long to break in glove dave
This glove takes about 2-5 days to break in before it is game ready.

My 11 year old daughter is a pitcher and has been told that this glove is illegal due to the yellow stitching on the outside of the glove. We have had to color it in with a marker so that she can use it. Can you suggest another glove that will work well for her at pitcher and 3rd base as well without the yellow stitching? Mum23kidz
There is another Mizuno glove that is virtually the same as that one, but it is not black. It is the GCF1251. It is a little more expensive, as it has a higher grade of leater that will make the glove mor durable.
Bodie
What do you think of this MVP compared to the Akadema ABU73 (12.75) or Akadema ATS 77 (12.5)? I am not sure about the Reptillian Pattern? Shes played since she was 5 and is now 12 and plays mostly right field, a little second base on a competitive team? What else would you recommend in the $80-110 range and would you stick with about 12.5? thanks! Bamm
I think a 12.5 would be a good size. This is a very durable glove and will have very good padding. The pocket design will be more of a personal preference.
