This looks like a great glove. My question is is the leather the same as a Wilson A2000 type glove? Or is this Manny glove a little softer and easier to break in? Ray
The Rawlings Heart of the Hide 11.75" Manny Machado Baseball Glove: PRONP5-7BCH features similar leather quality to the A2000 line, with similar break in required.
Logan
Is this glove considered too big to get out of the pocket hastily? BigBBaseball
The Rawlings Heart of the Hide 11.75" Manny Machado Baseball Glove (PRONP5-7BCH) is an infield glove. Due to that, it is not a deeper pocket than the average glove. The pocket on this glove is not too big to get the ball out of the pocket hastily.
Mick
Can this glove be used for 2nd? MO8
Yes, the Rawlings Heart of the Hide 11.75" Manny Machado Baseball Glove: PRONP5-7BCH can be used for second base. Typically, a second baseman will use a glove between an 11.25" and 11.75" size.
Jason
Would this be a good pitcher glove? Alex
You could use the Rawlings Heart of the Hide 11.75" Manny Machado Baseball Glove: PRONP5-7BCH as a pitcher. However, people tend to use more of a closed web or modified T webbing for a pitching glove.
Tori
Would this glove work for a 12 year old transitioning to junior high? He has small hands. Bryan
The Rawlings Heart of the Hide 11.75" Manny Machado Baseball Glove: PRONP5-7BCH could certainly work well for an infielder at that age, more specifically third base with its 11.75" size.
Logan
Do this glove come in stiff?I prefer a stiffer glove so it molds to my preference. Saul
Unfortunately no, this glove is not available in variable stiffness models.
Kyle J.
I would like to know if my son could use this glove. He plays 3rd base and is 12 years old? Rey0620
Most players at 12 years old, if they're playing pretty competitive ball, are able to start using a Heart of the Hide level glove, such as the Rawlings Heart of the Hide 11.75" Manny Machado Baseball Glove: PRONP5-7BCH. It will take some time for your player to get the glove broken in, depending on what level of rigidity he prefers, but will be a glove that will last him several years. The 11.75" size is also ideal for use at third base.
Logan
How do you break in, traditional or 2 in the pinky? Which is better and which does Manny Machado use? Rey Alvarez
The Rawlings Heart of the Hide 11.75" Manny Machado Baseball Glove: PRONP5-7BCH can be broken in either way. One way isn't necessarily better than the other, just preferential. Just by looking at photos, it looks like Machado wears his glove with two fingers in the pinky stall.
Logan
Is this glove an adult glove? Or do you think it would work for a bigger 11 year old? He plays 3rd and pitches. Tom
The Rawlings Heart of the Hide 11.75" Manny Machado Baseball Glove: PRONP5-7BCH is an adult glove and would not likely be a good fit for even a bigger 11 year old. A better fit would be the Rawlings Heart of the Hide R2G 11.75" Baseball Glove: PROR205-4BC. This model will have a narrow fit design.
Cameron
Can be used as an effective outfield glove? Van
The Rawlings Heart of the Hide 11.75" Manny Machado Baseball Glove: PRONP5-7BCH is designed as an infield glove, but depending on the players age, you may be able to use it as an outfield glove.
Tori
What is the exact color of this glove and when did it become available on the market? Fabian
The Rawlings Heart of the Hide 11.75" Manny Machado Baseball Glove: PRONP5-7BCH is Brown / Black / Gray and was released in March of 2017.
Cameron
Would you recommend this for an 18 year old who plays shortstop & third base -or- an 11.5 inch glove? Q
I would definitely recommend this Rawlings Heart of the Hide 11.75" Manny Machado Baseball Glove (PRONP5-7BCH) for a 3B/SS who plays high school baseball. Overall, it will be a player's preference whether they want the 11.5" length or the 11.75" length at 3B or SS. There is no 100% suggestion for the length that will apply to every player at those positions (but 11.5" or 11.75" are the most common lengths used at those positions).

About the Brand

Rawlings is a major manufacturer of competitive team sports equipment and apparel for baseball, basketball, and football, as well as licensed MLB, NFL, and NCAA retail products. Rawlings is a major supplier to professional, collegiate, interscholastic, and amateur organizations worldwide, including the Official Baseball Supplier to Major League Baseball.

The first real innovation in glove making occurred in 1912 when Rawlings Sporting Goods Company introduced the "Sure Catch" glove, which was "endorsed by leading players all over the country." The Sure Catch was a one-piece glove with sewn-in finger channels and looked better suited for a duck's foot than a man's hand. Catchers' mitts used at the time were large and bulky with a single leather thong passing for a web.

In 1920, Bill Doak, a journeyman pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, approached Rawlings with an idea for improving the baseball glove from a mere protective device to a genuine aid in fielding. The "Bill Doak" model was so revolutionary that it stayed in Rawlings' line until 1953. Its key feature was a multi-thong web laced into the first finger and thumb, which created for the first time in baseball's young life, a natural pocket.

In 1925, Rawlings unveiled a three-fingered fielder's glove, and ten years later improved the Bill Doak model with a two-piece leather web. At the same time, the "T" web became a rage for first basemen's mitts. The pocket underwent a pronounced change in 1941 when the Trapper Mitt, also known as the Claw, appeared. The "Deep Well" pocket was so unique that Rawlings quickly patented it. The design was improved in 1950 by adding a leather piece across the top. Another significant creation occurred in 1948 with the three-fingered Playmaker. A five-fingered fielder's model, with all fingers laced together, provided greater pocket control.

The six-fingered Trap-Eze evolved in the 1960's. In more recent years, Rawlings produced the Fastback design, which gives a glove a snugger fit, greater extension, and overall control. The Holdster is a slot through which a finger can be extended for additional protection from impacts on the pocket. Then, there is the Edge-U-Cated Heel with its extended U-shaped lacing and the Pro H Web and much-copied Basket Web.

Some of Rawlings's more recent glove innovations also include the unique Spin-Stopper design which reduces ball spin when the ball hits the glove, and the Cantilever glove design feature that provides a cushioned area between the hand and the glove's palm area. In all, Rawlings has produced and patented more functionally innovative glove features and designs than that of any other glove manufacturer. The result is that the modern baseball glove is much larger, more comfortable, better padded, and made to last far longer than its ancestors. It is not uncommon to see today's Major League players wearing the same Rawlings glove they wore during their college playing days. In fact, Rawlings is the #1 glove in the major leagues. Rawlings maintains about 65 models of baseball and softball mitts and gloves in its line. The prototypes of virtually all of them have been field-tested by professionals before entering a sporting goods dealer's inventory.
