Great Mitt JK parent

Pros: I purchased this mitt for my 8yr old son who started catching last season. I decided on this model because he has another Gamers series glove that has performed well. The leather is very nice quality for the price on the Gamer gloves and they breakin well. Much better quality then the other youth level gloves made of synthetic materials. They take more effort to breakin but its worth it.

Cons: I would rather see Rawlings make their gloves in the USA.

Pros: good leather. high quality for the price.

Cons: I would not consider this a youth mitt. It is heavy and not fitted for a youth player. A very tough mitt to break in.

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Rawlings GG Gamer Series: GCM325BT Catcher's Mitt? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

Does Rawlings make a Pro Taper Series catcher's mitt? My 10-year old catches in majors with kids throwing in the 50-60s and his Mizuno needs replacing. He has smaller hands so he has a Pro Taper infield glove. Was wondering what the best catcher's mitt may be. Rhino
We do not carry a Rawlings Pro Taper Series catcher's mitt. There would be a lot of quality catcher's mitts to consider and a lot would come down to what size you are needing, price point you are looking at and anything else that would appeal to your personal preference. With that said, the 2016 Rawlings GG Gamer Series: GCM325BT Catcher's Mitt would be a good mitt to consider. The Pro Soft Leather Shell will make this catcher's mitt easier to break-in and the padding that the mitt features will help make catching the higher velocity pitchers easier; the 32.50 size is also something that should fit most 10 year old players who play the position.

Looking for a new catchers mitt for my 13 year old son. He is on the smaller side for a 13 year old. I want something that will be good for him for next 3 years as he grows. Would you suggest this mitt? Pat
For most 13 year olds, we are suggesting catcher's mitts with a 32.00" circumference. This 2016 Rawlings GG Gamer Series (GCM325BT Catcher's Mitt) has a 32.5" circumference which may be a little large for him right now, but will give him something into which he can grow as he gets older. As well, the mitt has a 100 day guarantee that allows customers to purchase the glove and use it, then if within 100 days of the purchase they decide that the glove is not to their liking they can send it back to us for a full refund or exchange. Ultimately you would risk no money if you wanted to try out this glove!

what is the difference between the GCM325BT and the GCM325GT? saul
The 2016 Rawlings GG Gamer Series (GCM325BT) Catcher's Mitt's leather will be a little bit more higher quality and will come a little bit stiffer than the Rawlings GG Gamer Series (GCM325GT) Catcher's Mitt. The GCM325GT also has the PORON XRD Palm and Index Finger Pad which Drastically Reduces Impact of the Ball.

Would you recommend the GCM325BT for my 13 year old catcher (on the smaller side) or would the rawlings youth pro taper GCM32PTB be a better choice? Adam
The 2016 Rawlings GG Gamer Series (GCM325BT) Catcher's Mitt and the 2017 Rawlings Gamer Youth Pro Taper 32" Catcher's Mitt (GCM32PTB) are going to be very comparable options. However, I think that the Youth Pro Taper might fit him a little bit better if he is on the smaller side.
Carter
How does this mitt compare to the newer GG Elite series? Stolli
The quality of leather on this 2016 Rawlings GG Gamer Series (GCM325BT Catcher's Mitt) will be the same as the GG Elite Mitts carried at Dicks Sporting Goods. The difference between will be the cosmetic look of the two gloves.
Ben
My Grandson will turn 11 at the end of this month. Big for his age 5 foot, 120 lbs. Trying to figure out what size catchers mitt to get him I like the Rawlings gamer or pro taper gloves. Jim
The 2016 Rawlings GG Gamer Series: GCM325BT Catcher's Mitt would be a great option for a larger 11 year old catcher.

About the Brand

Rawlings is a major manufacturer of competitive team sports equipment and apparel for baseball, basketball, and football, as well as licensed MLB, NFL, and NCAA retail products. Rawlings is a major supplier to professional, collegiate, interscholastic, and amateur organizations worldwide, including the Official Baseball Supplier to Major League Baseball.

The first real innovation in glove making occurred in 1912 when Rawlings Sporting Goods Company introduced the "Sure Catch" glove, which was "endorsed by leading players all over the country." The Sure Catch was a one-piece glove with sewn-in finger channels and looked better suited for a duck's foot than a man's hand. Catchers' mitts used at the time were large and bulky with a single leather thong passing for a web.

In 1920, Bill Doak, a journeyman pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, approached Rawlings with an idea for improving the baseball glove from a mere protective device to a genuine aid in fielding. The "Bill Doak" model was so revolutionary that it stayed in Rawlings' line until 1953. Its key feature was a multi-thong web laced into the first finger and thumb, which created for the first time in baseball's young life, a natural pocket.

In 1925, Rawlings unveiled a three-fingered fielder's glove, and ten years later improved the Bill Doak model with a two-piece leather web. At the same time, the "T" web became a rage for first basemen's mitts. The pocket underwent a pronounced change in 1941 when the Trapper Mitt, also known as the Claw, appeared. The "Deep Well" pocket was so unique that Rawlings quickly patented it. The design was improved in 1950 by adding a leather piece across the top. Another significant creation occurred in 1948 with the three-fingered Playmaker. A five-fingered fielder's model, with all fingers laced together, provided greater pocket control.

The six-fingered Trap-Eze evolved in the 1960's. In more recent years, Rawlings produced the Fastback design, which gives a glove a snugger fit, greater extension, and overall control. The Holdster is a slot through which a finger can be extended for additional protection from impacts on the pocket. Then, there is the Edge-U-Cated Heel with its extended U-shaped lacing and the Pro H Web and much-copied Basket Web.

Some of Rawlings's more recent glove innovations also include the unique Spin-Stopper design which reduces ball spin when the ball hits the glove, and the Cantilever glove design feature that provides a cushioned area between the hand and the glove's palm area. In all, Rawlings has produced and patented more functionally innovative glove features and designs than that of any other glove manufacturer. The result is that the modern baseball glove is much larger, more comfortable, better padded, and made to last far longer than its ancestors. It is not uncommon to see today's Major League players wearing the same Rawlings glove they wore during their college playing days. In fact, Rawlings is the #1 glove in the major leagues. Rawlings maintains about 65 models of baseball and softball mitts and gloves in its line. The prototypes of virtually all of them have been field-tested by professionals before entering a sporting goods dealer's inventory.
