Description

Louisville Slugger creates some of the highest quality gloves on the market and their new Hybrid Defense 9, or HD9, series is no exception. The HD9 series follows one of the hottest glove styling trends over the past few seasons: the mesh back. The zero-gravity performance mesh back used on the HD9 is the same quality as used by many professional players. The advantage to zero-gravity mesh is that it provides a quicker break-in period and ultra lightweight feel compared to average gloves. The leather used on the rest of the glove is professional grade oil-treated steerhide that is tough and rugged, yet soft and comfortable. Inside, full grain leather linings help the glove keep it's shape and give players a phenomenal feeling. The HD9 series uses dye-through lacing to ensure that this is one of the most durable gloves you'll ever own. This 11.25 Inch model features an I-web design and is preferred by infielders. With a conventional open back, this HD9 series glove will have you playing at the top of your game! Louisville Slugger: Performance Products for Championship Performances! Free Shipping!

what stores have it in stock? where can I find a dealer to try it? Dawgs #4
That's a good question. I don't think any major retailers have this glove in stock yet. We're just an online retailer, so we don't have any store fronts anywhere. If you do purchase the glove from us, we offer a 100-day no questions asked return policy that enables you to buy the glove, try it out for 100 days, then return it if you're not satisfied.

I am thinking about getting this glove for my 8 year old son. Since this is not considered a youth glove, will the wrist be too loose for an 8 year old? I am just worried this will be too big for him. Eric
The Louisville Slugger TPX HD9 Series: XH1125GG will have a pretty small opening that forms to your hand. The 11.25" should be just fine for your son.
Noah
My son will be playing pitcher and possibly 2nd base. He is a much bigger than average near 7 year old. Would this glove me suitable for him? How about the weight of the glove? ballmom#5
The Louisville Slugger TPX HD9 Series: XH1125GG would be a great choice for your sons glove. It is going to be perfect for the infield and since the glove has a mesh back it will be light.

About the Brand

In 1842, J. Frederick Hillerich emigrated with his family from Baden-Baden, Germany to the United States. Eight years before, the 1834 Book of Sports had made its debut as the nation's first publication covering baseball. But when he arrived in Baltimore, J. Frederick Hillerich would never have dreamed of the future impact his family would have on America's favorite pastime.

After a short while, the Hillerichs moved to Louisville, where J. Fred started a woodworking shop in 1856. Two of his sons, Adam and John Andrew "Bud" were born in the United States and would later join their father in his business. By 1864 "J.F. Hillerich, Job Turning" was in operation and filled orders for businesses by custom-turning everything from balusters to bedposts.

The firm thrived, and by 1875 the little woodworking shop employed about 20 people. In 1880 Bud Hillerich, who was an amateur baseball player, became an apprentice in his father's shop. Young Bud made his own baseball bats along with bats for several of his teammates.

The debate over the origins of the first bat continues to generate controversy among baseball enthusiasts, but the younger Hillerich was most certainly involved in getting his father's business involved with what would become the company's signature item. According to company legend, the first bat was turned by Bud for Pete "The Old Gladiator" Browning in 1884. Browning was a star on Louisville's professional American Association team - the Eclipse. On a spring afternoon Bud, then seventeen, witnessed Browning break his favorite bat. Bud offered to make a bat for his hero, and Browning accepted. After the young wood shop apprentice lathed a quality stick from white ash, according to the story, Browning got three hits with it in the next game.

Louisville Slugger gloves are worn by more pitchers in Major League Baseball than any other glove.
