Description

Akadema is the worlds most exciting baseball and softball company in the world. Akadema's ownership attributes an increasing market share to their innovative quality professional product line in contrast to mass-produced products that have little to do with quality, feel, or design that raise the level of play. Much like in the insect world where the Praying Mantis is known to devour its competition, Akadema's new catchers mitt will do the same to conventional catchers mitts. The Akadema patent Praying Mantis is the most innovative catchers mitt ever to hit the market, with many unique features setting it apart from the competition. With new patented Stress Wedge technology, located between the index finger and thumb, the Praying Mantis offers shock-absorbing protection for the hand against injury and sting when receiving the ball. The Praying Mantis also offers two additional Finger Hammocks allowing the fingers to be firmly positioned and more secure in the glove. Additional features include the Double-sided Slim Padding allowing for increased pocket size and easier ball retention. Uniquely designed shape allows the throwing hand easier access in the pocket, resulting in a quicker glove to hand transfer and faster times to second base. Free Shipping!

Pros: Quality, built to last. My 11 year old loves this mitt. he thinks the extended web let's him snag high pitches better. Baked it with some hot glove foam and then beat it with a wooden ball on a stick to get it feeling right.

Cons: none

Pros: My 10 yr old son loves this glove. He plays travel ball. Great glove for blocking and framing, also great for quick exchange of ball to hand.Gary Carter did a good job designing the glove.

Cons: This glove is stiff and takes some time to loosen up. but worth the wait. So buy it just before the off season and brake it in.

Pros: Price is good. Wrist support is good. My son has average size hands for a 9 year old and while the size of this glove seems ok, the actual catching pocket is a little small. The thick padding around the outside edge of this glove is like concrete. Not a bad glove but we have three other catchers mitts on our team that most 9-10 year olds seems to favor over this one. Maybe it will get better with age but we have been breaking it in for 3 months now.

Cons: Stiff, Stiff, Stiff!

Pros: perfect size for my 9 year old. The hand pocket is small - I can barely get 3/4s of my small sized hand in it - but it's just right for a kid. I think he can use it till he's 12 or 13. The basket looks odd how it sticks out but seems to help my son snag bad pitches. Padding is great - he can barely feel fast pitches. After the long break in, it really works with such a deep pocket. This is a great mitt for a young catcher.

Cons: Absolutely the stiffest glove I've ever seen, bar none. My son wanted to send it back after playing catch with it the first time - he couldn't even bend it, much less close it.

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Akadema Prodigy Series: AGC98 Youth Catcher's Mitt? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

How long does it take to break in? And will this glove fit up to a 12 year old? Joe
Repitition is key when breaking in a ball glove. If he works with it every day, it should be ready to go after a week or two. A 32 inch catchers mitt is a good size for a 12 or 13 year old.
Brett
I bought this glove from you and have been working with it for about a week using glove oil, wrapping with ball in pocket and playing pitch and catch. I read on the reviews where it breaks in easily. For some reason this glove has not softened up and is still hard to the point that balls bounce out of it when catching much more than normal. Is there anything else I can do to soften it up and break it in? Joe
Repetition, repetition, repetition. Repetition is key. The best and most proper way to break in a glove, especially a catchers mitt, is to play catch with it as much as you can. When playing catch is not an option, take a wooden mallet or baseball and "abuse" the pocket with it while you're watching TV or something. There's also a possibilty that the players hand may be a little too small for the glove and he can't fully squeeze the glove, this may make for a slightly longer break-in period. Using glove oil and wrapping the glove with a ball in the pocket only works if you play catch and work with the glove for extended sessions everyday.
JH
do you have this glove for right hand thowers? I cant seem to un-select left hand thrower kenny
We will only show what we have in stock. So if there is just a left hand throw option available, then we are currently out of stock or vice versa.
