Pros: I really, REALLY wanted to buy into the “Shoeless Joe†story and buy a glove that would channel the vintage feeling and “old timey ingredients†of the gloves of days long gone. this glove succeeds in its appearance.
Cons: gloves are MUCH darker than photos on website. MUCH darker - looks like entirely different product - my first reaction was to check if I ordered wrong. The glove does not have a “vintage leather smellâ€, it reeks of a petroleum chemical smell similar to a cheap leather messenger bag I ordered a few years ago from Italy. Not sure what the “old timey†ingredients are that they rub on the glove but it still has a greasy, sticky feel 2 weeks later. Expect a sticky brown layer of goo to rub off on any baseball you use to break it in, and keep it away from any fabrics or surfaces you value. The glove breaks in quickly as advertised, but they’ve jammed in some very large (plastic?) pieces in the fingers to help the glove hold its shape which makes for a very strange feel. In short, if you want a great old timey glove, do what I did and pony up an extra $90 for a Nokona. I’m so glad I did. Shoeless Joe is for show only.
