Pros: This is the best glove I have ever put on my hand! And I have been wearing baseball gloves for over 60 years! The leather is buttery smooth unlike the hard leather for which the HOH was known so many years ago. The workmanship and shape is exceptional. It may take a little work and time to break in to your liking but it is so very little compared to the final result...the best glove you can find. So, if you have a player that merits the very best, then take the time to design one.

Cons: No cons

What's the largest 1st baseman glove made? Mike
For the Rawlings Customer Glove that you had inquired about, the largest available size for a First Base Mitt will be a 13.00 inch pattern. Typically most First Basemen in both softball and baseball prefer a mitt between the sizes of 12.50 - 13.00 inches.
Joe
What's should be the largest size for a shortstop glove? Country boy
The largest size a shortstop would want to use can vary based on player preference. There is no real limit to the size, as it would be whatever you are most comfortable with. In general, middle infielders will use a shorter glove between 11.25 and 11.75 inches in size with 11.5 being the most common.
Patrick

While the Rawlings custom gloves in the bigger sizes may be usable for softball, they are baseball designs and would typically be too big for female hands.

Do the Rawlings custom gloves come in Youth sizes or just adult? I arrived at this glove through a youth filter on the site. According to Rawlings, however, they are only available in adult sizes. KC
Unfortunately, the Rawlings Custom Gloves are only available in adult sizes the filters will select this glove for any filter applied because there are so many customization options. Unfortunately, that does not include a youth fit design.

I have a son playing 9U majors who is in the 85th percentile for height. I'd like to get him a catcher's glove that will last for a few years before buying more adult type sizes. Is the 32.5 too big for him? Any better recommendations? jlstaud
For a player in 9U, we would recommend getting a catcher's mitt that is 31.50-32.50 inch pattern
Cameron
I am thinking about purchasing one of the Rawlings baseball gloves and I was wondering will the glove be taken out of the game if it has the U.S.A flag on it because of the white stripes? Tommy
I would not imagine an umpire would deem the glove illegal because of the white on the Rawlings Custom Glove. Although there is always a small chance that certain umpires might considered too much white.
Max
I heard that from 2017, Rawlings HOH gloves will feature a DRI LEX instead of fur in the wrist part. Can't I order HOH glove with fur in the wrist part instead of the DRI LEX? Sean
Rawlings, like some other glove companies, our going away from making gloves with the fur in the wrist portion of the glove. The DRI-LEX feature is on all 2017 HOH models whereas the Pro Preferred lineup will feature the fur.
Cameron

I have heard that sometimes Rawlings can put a custom college baseball team logo on the glove where the U.S. Flag would normally go. Is that possible? Thanks. Brad
The Rawlings Custom Glove options are numerous. However, you are unable to upload a custom school logo.
Daveron
I am planning to order a Rawlings custom HOH catcher's mitt as a Christmas gift. Could you please explain what palm pad option "XRD" means? Ferd
The XRD pad that can be added to a Rawlings Custom Glove catcher's mitt refers to the index finger padding for those catchers that will place their index finger outside the mitt. This feature will help soften the blow to the index finger which is generally located in a high traffic area of the mitt.
Cameron
I have a custom HOH catchers mitt on order and I am wondering if it would be a good idea to apply glove conditioner right away or are new HOH's conditioned when manufactured? Fred
You are going to want to treat Rawlings Custom Glove's like most every other glove available. You can lightly add conditioner upon arrival but the key time to apply a conditioner will be at the end of the season to preserve leather quality.
Tyler
3 Questions on designing the HOH custom glove: (1) What's the difference between black and Horween oiled black? (2) Does the wingtip (204W) play differently than the standard 200 (204) pattern? (3) What effect does the leather palm pad have on the glove and how it plays? Thanks. Casey
(1) The Horween Black Oiled just appears as a slightly darker black. (2) The wingtip design makes the glove feel a bit wider due to no welting in the knuckle area. (3) The palm pad just adds a bit more padding in the palm is all. It shouldn't affect much in terms of feel or how the glove plays.

My son has Poland syndrome causing one hand to be smaller than the other. He will be starting baseball in the fall and we are looking for a glove to be custom fit to his small hand. Is this a custom fit that is for their hand or just custom design? Lindsay
The Rawlings Custom glove does offer a size customization of 3 different fit options ( 6"-6.5", 6.5"-7", and 7"-7.5") for the hand opening. If you need a smaller or specific size, I would recommend contacting Rawlings directly and explaining your situation to them. They may be able to make special accommodations for your son.
Dani
Can a college mascot be embroidered on a Pro207 custom HOTH glove in place of the Rawlings logo? Steven
Unfortunately, with the Rawlings Custom Glove you will not be able to embroider a college mascot on the Pro 207 Heart of the Hide.
Max
If I have an order placed is there a way to get updates? Jesse
Unfortunately no, not at this time. You will receive an email confirmation once the order is placed, and then another update once the custom glove is finished and ships from the Rawlings warehouse after the allotted 6 to 8 week time period.
Kyle J.
Can I purchase a first baseman’s glove that is high end quality and already broken in? Lester Dodson
It would be tough to nearly impossible to get a higher end 1B mitt that is already broken in. Doing a Rawlings Custom Glove, for example their Heart of the Hide or Pro Preferred builder, will require a few weeks of break-in time. With higher leather glove there is also more padding which increases the break-in time but also increases the durability and life span of the mitt.
Cameron
(1) What is the difference between leather and XRD palm? (2) Also, what is the difference between thermo formed and BOA wrist liner? Corey
(1) I don't know this 100%, but on the Rawlings Custom Glove, I believe that the "leather" palm pad is a pretty standard addition of simply adding extra leather to the plam area to provide more protection. If a glove has the XRD Palm Pad, that palm protection is more specifically designed to "tremendously" decrease the amount of sting felt. (2) The BOA wrist feature will be a a soft, lightweight synthetic material designed to be soft to the touch. The Thermo formed wrist feature is a breathable, moisture-wicking liner made of a soft, wrapped foam (a standard Heart of the Hide feature).
Ben
Looking to customize the webbing. Is it possible to have the "H" ( central 3 pieces of leather) be dark brown and the rest of the glove and webbing be blond? Mark Rounds
When creating a Rawlings Custom Glove, only one color can be used with regards to the webbing. As for the shell of the glove, one can use two different colors when designing both the shell back and shell palm.
Cameron
Largest size for a custom outfield softball glove? Michael Preston
The largest size one could make a Rawlings Custom Glove would be 13 inches.
Cameron
What age or hand size is the pro taper geared toward? I have a 6th grade 11 year old son that I’m wanting to get a HoH custom 1st basemen glove that will be used till his freshman year (3 years)and want to make sure if this option fits his needs and not grow out of it prematurely. Also, can long laces be requested when ordering a custom HoH glove? Thank you and happy holidays Phil Lawson
I would not recommend a Pro Taper fit for an 11 year old unless they have very small hands. Generally, you would want a Narrow Fit size from Rawlings around age 10-14, depending on hand size. Standard or adult size gloves are generally worn around age 12-13, again depending on the size of the player. I would try on some Rawlings gloves at a local sporting goods store if you can, as Custom Glove orders cannot be changed or cancelled once you submit them. Rawlings does not have an option to request long laces in their custom glove builder.
Kyle
I want to replace my patch on the wrist. How do I apply the new patch by sewing it with a leather needle and hole punches or leather cement? Tyler
Unfortunately we would not know how to sew on your own patch to replace what was on a Rawlings Custom Glove or a regular stock glove from the manufacturer.
Cameron
Can you get a catchers mitt in orange and blue? Warren Field
One can create their Rawlings Custom Glove using the colors provided by Rawlings; orange and blue are two colors that one could do.
Cameron

Unfortunately we do not have any with that web type.

Cameron

Unfortunately, Glove Assurance is not offered on a Rawlings Custom Glove.

About the Brand

Rawlings is a major manufacturer of competitive team sports equipment and apparel for baseball, basketball, and football, as well as licensed MLB, NFL, and NCAA retail products. Rawlings is a major supplier to professional, collegiate, interscholastic, and amateur organizations worldwide, including the Official Baseball Supplier to Major League Baseball.

The first real innovation in glove making occurred in 1912 when Rawlings Sporting Goods Company introduced the "Sure Catch" glove, which was "endorsed by leading players all over the country." The Sure Catch was a one-piece glove with sewn-in finger channels and looked better suited for a duck's foot than a man's hand. Catchers' mitts used at the time were large and bulky with a single leather thong passing for a web.

In 1920, Bill Doak, a journeyman pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, approached Rawlings with an idea for improving the baseball glove from a mere protective device to a genuine aid in fielding. The "Bill Doak" model was so revolutionary that it stayed in Rawlings' line until 1953. Its key feature was a multi-thong web laced into the first finger and thumb, which created for the first time in baseball's young life, a natural pocket.

In 1925, Rawlings unveiled a three-fingered fielder's glove, and ten years later improved the Bill Doak model with a two-piece leather web. At the same time, the "T" web became a rage for first basemen's mitts. The pocket underwent a pronounced change in 1941 when the Trapper Mitt, also known as the Claw, appeared. The "Deep Well" pocket was so unique that Rawlings quickly patented it. The design was improved in 1950 by adding a leather piece across the top. Another significant creation occurred in 1948 with the three-fingered Playmaker. A five-fingered fielder's model, with all fingers laced together, provided greater pocket control.

The six-fingered Trap-Eze evolved in the 1960's. In more recent years, Rawlings produced the Fastback design, which gives a glove a snugger fit, greater extension, and overall control. The Holdster is a slot through which a finger can be extended for additional protection from impacts on the pocket. Then, there is the Edge-U-Cated Heel with its extended U-shaped lacing and the Pro H Web and much-copied Basket Web.

Some of Rawlings's more recent glove innovations also include the unique Spin-Stopper design which reduces ball spin when the ball hits the glove, and the Cantilever glove design feature that provides a cushioned area between the hand and the glove's palm area. In all, Rawlings has produced and patented more functionally innovative glove features and designs than that of any other glove manufacturer. The result is that the modern baseball glove is much larger, more comfortable, better padded, and made to last far longer than its ancestors. It is not uncommon to see today's Major League players wearing the same Rawlings glove they wore during their college playing days. In fact, Rawlings is the #1 glove in the major leagues. Rawlings maintains about 65 models of baseball and softball mitts and gloves in its line. The prototypes of virtually all of them have been field-tested by professionals before entering a sporting goods dealer's inventory.
