Pros: This glove is absolutely fire. Perfect size, game-ready, and looks like a pro glove. The Buffalo leather is so soft. You can tell this is hand-crafted like the folks at Nokona say!

Cons: I'm mad that it took me so long to find such an awesome glove!

Pros: Great glove for my 9 year old lefty. His first non-junior glove and he hit the ground running with it. A few rounds of catch in the front yard and it's practically game ready. With this mitt gone are the days of having to break-in a mitt for months before a kid can be confident to use it in a game. I'd be really hard pressed to not buy all my kids Nokona gloves from here on out. I'm trying to justify abandoning my Rawlings Trap that I've used for years and getting a Nokona of my own.

Cons: None.

perfect glove for youth infielder wp parent

Pros: -high quality, sturdy leather -lightweight for how strudy it is -breaks in like a dream -fits youth hands well i poured hot water on it the first night and shaped it to get a little flare using a mallet and wrapped it overnight with the break in kit. next few days i used the nokona conditioner and mallet moxed with playing catch. this glove is game ready after 4 days!!!! i can tell that the leather is high quality and will hold up long term.

Cons: -a little pricey for a youth glove

Decent Premium Glove 5 Star Son parent

Pros: This glove looks impressive, requires little to no breakin and is an excellent size—especially for the experienced young player with small hands.

Cons: My son started with the S100 and graduated to the S200. Both gloves performed well for two seasons (spring and fall). Then they rapidly lost structure becoming very flimsy and floppy. Furthermore, both gloves developed holes in the identical place on the outer palm directly below the pocket. We contacted Nokona on the S200 and they graciously beefed up the structure free of charge. Unfortunately, we were only able to get one more season out of the glove before it lost structure again. Be aware that gloves requiring little breakin will not maintain their structure over the long haul.

Pros: My son loves everything about this glove! Was stiff when arrived as most gloves are but broke in very easily with just playing catch!(all natural) unlike most gloves on the market.

Great Glove!!!! Josh B Coach

Pros: I purchased this glove for my nine-year-old son who plays a lot of select ball. He’s on the smaller built side of a lot of the kids his age and this glove is pretty heavy compared to most gloves if not all. It is not game ready out of the wrapper. We’ve thrown each day for the last week or so and it’s breaking in nicely.

Cons: Expensive but worth it Heavy

Nokona Alpha Select 200 Kim Parent

Pros: This glove is the real deal! I ordered others and returned before getting this glove. Great quality leather still needs some breaking in ,but came nearly ready to go. If you are looking for a very well made glove this is it??

Great glove except for durability Mark Parent

Pros: Beautiful design and craftsmanship. Good pocket for quick exchanges.

Cons: My son plays baseball almost every day, and this glove didn’t last a year. Leather is frayed, laces have broken, and lace holes are torn and stretched to the point glove could bust. He is only 10 so I thought this glove would be a good choice. If you are going to buy this length and want a glove to last, I would go 11.25” in an adult model glove.

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Nokona Alpha 11.25" Youth Baseball Glove: S-200I? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

The description indicates a modified trap, the picture shows and I-Web. The model name includes -I, which indicates I-web as pictured. I do not see an I-Web S-200 on the manufacturer website. Could you clarify. RS
The Nokona Alpha Select Series (S-200-I Youth) is an I-Web. The modified trap was incorrectly entered and we apologize for the confusion. This matter has since been corrected. As for why it is not appearing on the manufacturer's website, this glove was an exclusive model for JustBallGloves.
Cameron
How long does it take to break this glove in to have it in game ready condition? Also, would it be suitable for a 9yr old playing 10u? I want a glove that he can use the next couple years. DB
The Nokona Alpha Select Series: S-200-I Youth should not take long to break-in. This is due to the Buffalo and Stampede leather construction. These leathers will give the glove a game-ready feel. As for the size of this glove, it features an 11.25 inch pattern which would be a good size for someone who is playing 10u baseball.
Cameron
Is this glove closer to 11" or 11.25" in length? GP
This Nokona Alpha Select Series (S-200-I Youth) should be closer to an 11.25" length, but it can vary in size to be a little larger or smaller than the listed 11.25" length.
Ben
I am looking at the Nokona Alpha S200 vs S200-I. My son is 9 yr old and plays short stop. What do you recommend? balldad
The Nokona Alpha Select Series: S-200-I Youth and the Nokona Alpha Select Series Baseball Glove: S-200 Youth are the same glove except for the web pattern design. Both are great gloves so it really comes down to your personal preference (I-Web with the S-200-I Youth versus Modified T-Web with the S-200).
Cameron
My son will be playing 11U (pitcher and infield). What is the age range for this glove? joshlantis
For this Nokona Alpha Select Series (S-200-I Youth), I think that it is certainly usable by players ranging 8 years old - 13 years old. I think at 11, your son could get a couple of years of use out of this glove before you might start thinking about moving to a new mitt.
Ben
I am thirteen and play mostly second base but some pitcher, and on some occasions center field. I have a Nokona right now and love it but am thinking about getting a new glove now and in high school. I also don't know what size to get. Jake Jitsu
The Nokona Alpha Select Series: S-200-I Youth would be a great glove for the time being. If you are looking for a glove for high school I would take a look at the adult gloves, because your hand will be big enough at that point. As for size I would look at an 11.50'' or an 11.75''
Max
Is there any difference between the S-200-I and the S-200, other than the I web one the 200-I? Blue
No, like you mentioned, the only difference between the Nokona Alpha Select Series: S-200-I Youth and the Nokona Alpha Select Series Baseball Glove: S-200 Youth is going to be the I web.
Cooper
What is the difference between the Alpha Select S-200I and the Nokona Alpha Select 11.25 Inch SV1 Youth Baseball Glove? Ken
The Nokona Alpha Select Series: S-200I Youth is designed specifically for a youth baseball player. The SV1 is technically designed for a youth softball player or baseball player and it features a slightly bigger hand fit for more of an intermediate age range of players. The pocket is a little bigger on the SV1 as well, so it works better with a softball and it features the velcro wrist strap.
Jason
I've been looking for a new glove for my 9 year old son. He plays travel ball for 10u. After looking at research, it seems like Nokona is the way to go. My son plays infield, outfield, and pitches. Would the S200 be good for him, and is it a 11.5 inch? Right now he is using a Mizuno power close 11.5 inch. Scott28
The Nokona Alpha Select Series: S-200I Youth is an 11.25" glove, and would be a great fit for a player at that age. It would certainly be appropriate for infield and pitching, but may be a bit small for the outfield.
Logan
Is the light colored leather buffalo? Hank
Yes, the Nokona Alpha Select Series: S-200I Youth glove features a light brown Buffalo leather and a darker brown Stampede leather. The combination of these two proprietary Nokona leathers makes these gloves ready for play right off the shelf without any need for steaming.
Dan
My son is 6 and plays travel ball on a 7u team. Looking to upgrade his glove. Would this be a good fit size wise? OJ
The Nokona Alpha Select Series: S-200I Youth might be a bit large for a 6 year old player. Generally, for a player that is 6 we would recommend a glove that is between 10.00-10.50 inches; this Nokona glove is 11.25 (+/- 0.25). A better option might be the Nokona Alpha Select 10.5" Youth Baseball Glove: S-100I.
Cameron
What’s the difference between the Alpha Select S-200I and the Alpha 1150I? Jason
The Nokona Alpha Select Series: S-200I Youth is an 11.25'' glovw that is designed for youth players, specifically pre-teen. The Nokona Alpha 11.5" Baseball Glove: S-1150I is an 11.50'' glove and is not designed for youth players. It would be best for players 13+.

About the Brand

Joe Phillips writes about his visit to Nokona. It was like sitting in at the plantation party in Gone with the Wind or maybe gazing from the grandstand at the “Field of Dreams” while the Black Sox players tried to work out their idled muscle kinks. And, I was gently reminded by the lines in that movie while I dug into a delicious plate of North Texas barbecue: “threshing crews eating at outdoor tables. It continually reminds us of what once was, like an Indian-head penny in a handful of new coins. . . You talk a good dream.” And here I was. . . graciously invited into this magical and charming “Field of Glove-Making Dreams” in former Comanche Indian land at Nocona, Texas. It was a warm August evening, basked in a golden harvest moon, while friends and the Nokona family paid its kindly southern regards to two of their own and two of America’s finest but relatively obscure glove makers, Bobby Storey and Elvin Ray “Ab” Lemons. You see, the pair had just completed fifty years of time-honored employment with Nocona Athletic Goods, the last of the all-American made ball glove company's. The occasion brought echoes of past successes and human contentment, but in Nocona today you still experience much the same American texture of yesterday and perhaps a glimpse into tomorrow as well.

The two stately gentlemen were being honored in a way that could have taken place in the same manner when they first reported for full-time work at Nokona, in 1952, or back even earlier, in 1933 when the company started making sports equipment. During a brief and informal presentation at the celebration, Nokona’s new sales manager called the two glove makers “Legends - because that’s what their ball gloves stood for, American know-how and pride taken in a best-made product.”

A man of few words but a marveled craftsman who could literally conjure a sows ear into a playable baseball mitt, Mr. Lemons got up and fondly recalled the several men he worked with through his half-century and of the training that had been passed along to him from his old bosses.

His counter part and just as talented, Bobby Storey, had filled in at just about every job at Nokona. Bobby, the son of the sporting goods founder, R.E. “Bob” Storey had most recently served as president and now chairman of the board of Nokona. Though past retirement age like Mr. Lemons, he’s now serving at one of his favorite roles, that of ball glove designer.

At a time for employment in this country when five years is considered a long tenure with the same company, Ab and Bobby are not even the first to complete a half-century journey with Nocona Athletics. The now deceased Jewell Brickey, hit that milestone in 1993, after joining the company during World War II. That’s the kind of devotion that employees forge into this glove-making outfit. A devoted and sustained tenure here is not rare. Last year the company advertising, displayed along with Storey and Lemons, three other employees who had garnered 40 years with Nokona, Warren Clary, Bud Meekins, and Melvin Weedin.“

I don’t have to tell you that the one constant through all the years has been baseball”, wrote W.P. Kinsella. And the most constant of ball glove makers has been Nokona, and the men and women there who keep alive the tradition of American craftsmanship of ball glove making. The spirit of glove-making is still alive and well in Nocona, Texas.
