UtiliCoach

Pros: Great glove. I've had it for about 8 years. Durable lacing, has barely needed adjusting. Nothing ever pops out of this basket. Contains softballs no matter how much spin/slice is on it.

Cons: The only con I can think of is that it feels a little silly when I play catch with my kid using his baseball. 14" is just too much glove for a baseball. For softball, it is a dream.

P140BPS glove review Bud Player

Pros: This is an outstanding glove for the price. I'm still breaking it in but it will not take long, maybe 6 or 7 games? I play senior 12" slow pitch in the outfield and occasionally first base, the glove is good at either position. Very happy with the purchase.

Cons: The only con I can think of is I wish the rawhide was drawn tighter in places where they tie it. I'm having to use two sets of pliers to draw the ends tighter in a few places. Besides that, no other issues.

One happy customer! Peter Loewen Player

Pros: Awesome glove, I had put off buying a new one for a long time because I couldn’t find one I liked, but ended up with something I’m truly happy about and proud of. Shipped to my home within 2 or 3 days of getting the order in. And I was thrilled about the price. Super affordable price for an excellent glove. And it came delivered game day ready while still being able to be molded into what I wanted.

Cons: Nothing that I’m unhappy about. As painless of a process as it could have possibly been.

This glove rocks!! Cathy CC Lowas Player

Pros: Semi broke-in leather glove at time of reception. I spent a few hours workung the leather, put a ball in and tied it off. Repeated the process a couple of times and voila, ready to use!!

Cons: Lacing was a little too loose for my liking. Only took me 5 minutes to tighten up the fingers.

Glove P140-Great Michael Marks Player

Pros: My previous well loved glove was 12 in and couldn't quite handle outfield play. So I ordered the Rawlings P140BPS. When it arrived it was a bit stiff. Not quite game ready. However, it only took a few days and a couple of practices to be fully usable. The pocket is large and well formed. I did need to tighten the laces slightly, but not much. The workmanship is amazing considering the price. I am very satisfied. This glove is highly recommended bps-Great

Cons: Not quite "game ready" on arrival but became so quickly.

Rawlings P140BPS leather glove KG Player

Pros: All leather, solid construction. Nice pocket and webbing. Oiled it once and I can already feel that it is starting to break-in and get more flimsy which is how an outfielder wants their glove.

Cons: None so far

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Rawlings Player Preferred 14" Slow Pitch Softball Glove: P140BPS? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

Is this glove all real leather? How long does it take to break in? dirkmccord
Yes, this glove is made with full-grain, oiled leather for enhanced durability. This gloves should not take long to break in, as Rawlings says they have taken care of 80% of the break-in required, leaving only the last 20% for the player to break-in themselves.
Kyle J.
I am a pitcher in a slow pitch senior softball league. Is this the glove I need or can you recommend another? Joe
This would be an excellent glove for your position and league. The large 14" pattern will be useful for a pitcher, and can also be used at other positions if needed.
Kyle J.
I am a first baseman will this glove work for that and other positions like outfield or 3rd? Ken7
Yes, this glove is large enough to work for first base and outfield. It might be a bit big for third base, but if you need a glove for OF and 1B, that's something that can't really be avoided.
Kyle J.
How do you tighten the strap across the back of your hand? In the picture it looks like the pull strap just hangs out the back instead of having a conventional Velcro-type attachment. Mike
The Rawlings Player Preferred 14" Slow Pitch Softball Glove: P140BPS features an adjustable, non-slip pull strap back. This gives the glove a more traditional look, while still being adjustable. To tighten, you simply pull the two laces on the pinky side of the hand opening after the glove is on the hand. To loosen and take the glove off, you pull the tab on the thumb/top side of the hand opening.
Logan
Is the adjustable strap a plus or a negative? Does it become a nuisance to deal with? Thomas
The strap on the Rawlings Player Preferred 14" Slow Pitch Softball Glove: P140BPS allows you to adjust the fit on the glove at any time. The adjustable strap is widely enjoy, but will come down to the personal player.
Max
My hand is on the small size and I usually play the outfield. Will I get a tight fit with this glove? Richard Maresca
The Rawlings Player Preferred 14" Slow Pitch Softball Glove: P140BPS will have a standard fit for the average adult male's hand. However, it does come with an easy adjustable wrist strap to customize the fit to your liking.
Tyler
Does this glove come in a 15''? JOE HELFRICH
No, unfortunately we do not have the Rawlings Player Preferred 14" Slow Pitch Softball Glove: P140BPS available in a 15''.
Tori
I just got this glove and will be using it for senior softball. What is the best way to break in this glove? Should I use oil and if so what kind? Bill
The best way to break in the Rawlings Player Preferred 14" Slow Pitch Softball Glove: P140BPS is just to play catch and use it as you normally would. You can use a little Pro Soft conditioner if you'd like to condition the leather, but wouldn't be all that necessary for this model since it will be pretty game ready out of the box.
Logan
I'm not familiar with the type of tightening mechanism on the wrist of this glove. How does it work? Does it stay at one place, or easily tighten and loosen by pulling or releasing? Mike
The two laces on the pinky side of the wrist strap can be pulled to tighten, and the tab on the thumb side can be pulled to loosen the adjustable wrist strap on the Rawlings Player Preferred 14" Slow Pitch Softball Glove: P140BPS.
Logan
I'm an outfielder, Does it have a deep pocket where it won't pop out if it hits the palm or pocket area? Jolly
The 14" pattern on this Rawlings Player Preferred (P140BPS) should have plenty of pocket to secure flyballs.
Kyle
This glove looks great and has nice reviews. The current glove I use the finger hole, will this glove allow me a comfortable fit if I put my index finger out? Thanks. Craig T
Yes, I don't see any reason this Rawlings Player Preferred 14" (P140BPS) would be uncomfortable wearing it as you mention. The only reason I can think it would be uncomfortable is if you really try to shove your hand far up into the glove while still having your pointer finger out. You may want to wear it a bit looser/higher up on your hand to avoid that.
Kyle
Is it 14 inches from palm to top finger Jim
A gloves measurement starts at the top of the index finger, to the center of the heel of the glove.
Lauren
How do you adjust the opening for your hand where it goes in the glove? Jim
The Rawlings Player Preferred 14" Slow Pitch Softball Glove: P140BPS features an adjustable, non-slip pull strap back that will allow one to tighten or loosen the fit on the wrist. To loosen, lift up on the leather straps over the wrist. To tighten, pull on the leather knots on the side of the pinkie stall.
Cameron
Is it 100 percent leather, including where I slip my hands? Michael Christoffersen
The Rawlings Player Preferred 14" Slow Pitch Softball Glove: P140BPS features an all leather design.
Cameron
Is this glove all leather on the front and back? RD
Yes this Rawlings Player Preferred 14" Slow Pitch Softball Glove: P140BPS is an all leather glove.
Ryan

About the Brand

Rawlings is a major manufacturer of competitive team sports equipment and apparel for baseball, basketball, and football, as well as licensed MLB, NFL, and NCAA retail products. Rawlings is a major supplier to professional, collegiate, interscholastic, and amateur organizations worldwide, including the Official Baseball Supplier to Major League Baseball.

The first real innovation in glove making occurred in 1912 when Rawlings Sporting Goods Company introduced the "Sure Catch" glove, which was "endorsed by leading players all over the country." The Sure Catch was a one-piece glove with sewn-in finger channels and looked better suited for a duck's foot than a man's hand. Catchers' mitts used at the time were large and bulky with a single leather thong passing for a web.

In 1920, Bill Doak, a journeyman pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, approached Rawlings with an idea for improving the baseball glove from a mere protective device to a genuine aid in fielding. The "Bill Doak" model was so revolutionary that it stayed in Rawlings' line until 1953. Its key feature was a multi-thong web laced into the first finger and thumb, which created for the first time in baseball's young life, a natural pocket.

In 1925, Rawlings unveiled a three-fingered fielder's glove, and ten years later improved the Bill Doak model with a two-piece leather web. At the same time, the "T" web became a rage for first basemen's mitts. The pocket underwent a pronounced change in 1941 when the Trapper Mitt, also known as the Claw, appeared. The "Deep Well" pocket was so unique that Rawlings quickly patented it. The design was improved in 1950 by adding a leather piece across the top. Another significant creation occurred in 1948 with the three-fingered Playmaker. A five-fingered fielder's model, with all fingers laced together, provided greater pocket control.

The six-fingered Trap-Eze evolved in the 1960's. In more recent years, Rawlings produced the Fastback design, which gives a glove a snugger fit, greater extension, and overall control. The Holdster is a slot through which a finger can be extended for additional protection from impacts on the pocket. Then, there is the Edge-U-Cated Heel with its extended U-shaped lacing and the Pro H Web and much-copied Basket Web.

Some of Rawlings's more recent glove innovations also include the unique Spin-Stopper design which reduces ball spin when the ball hits the glove, and the Cantilever glove design feature that provides a cushioned area between the hand and the glove's palm area. In all, Rawlings has produced and patented more functionally innovative glove features and designs than that of any other glove manufacturer. The result is that the modern baseball glove is much larger, more comfortable, better padded, and made to last far longer than its ancestors. It is not uncommon to see today's Major League players wearing the same Rawlings glove they wore during their college playing days. In fact, Rawlings is the #1 glove in the major leagues. Rawlings maintains about 65 models of baseball and softball mitts and gloves in its line. The prototypes of virtually all of them have been field-tested by professionals before entering a sporting goods dealer's inventory.
