Description

Up until 1875, baseball players didn't even use a glove when playing defense. In the late 1800's, players began using fingerless gloves on both hands, and it wasn't until 1919 that the idea of a "web" was even suggested. Unlike with bats, there are rarely innovations in the glove industry these days that really revolutionize the game. This season, Rawlings will change everything. Introducing the REVO Series player specific gloves from Rawlings. Featuring Solid Core Technology, these gloves eliminate traditional lining, and instead use layers to cater to how a player catches the ball based on position and personal preference. These layers, combined with the absence of heel and palm lacing, result in a glove that is naturally easier to close and less time consuming to break in. The REVO design creates a preformed pocket that gives players a better feel and enhanced grip of the ball, giving new meaning to the phrase "fits like a glove". Rawlings has divided these REVO gloves into three categories classified by pocket depth: Deep, Standard, and Flat. This particular model is part of the REVO 950 Series and is made from high quality oil-tanned, Pro Select shell leather with deer tanned cowhide leather lining. The Deep 130 degree pocket on this glove breaks in from thumb to ring or little finger, and is tailor-made for players that catch the ball one-handed. With a Trapeze Web and a Fastback closed back design, this 12.75 Inch model allows for unparalleled control to snag balls in the outfield. Rawlings: Redesigning Defense. Free Shipping!

Pros: Quality is good overall for the price.

Cons: I prefer my custom synthetic leather glove. This is a good cheap leather glove, but synthetic is more flexible and the quality is better overall for day to day.

I am going into high school and looking for a glove that will last 4 years, which would you prefer this or the TPX Pro Flare? swolen
This is a great choice of glove. Very well made, should last the 4yrs and beyond. It will break in easily and will feel like you've had the glove forever.
Linda
After 27 Years I had to retire my Glove (Rawlings Gold Glove Series) I still play competitive Softball 4 days a week and for the past 10 years playing primarily 1st base. It was the best investment i ever made. That being said i will not consider trying anything a Rawlings! It is hard to tell from a pitcher and a brief description but it seems like the Revo 959 12.5 will serve me well at first and occasional spot duties in the field. What is your opinion? I thought i would of retired before my glove. The advancements seem to come a long way since i purchased one last. Drew
This is a very durable glove and will last you many seasons. This glove will hold it's shape and will have good padding. This is a solid choice for a glove.

Is this glove made in the U.S.? Stickman
The 9SC127FD is made in the Philippines.

Is it even fair to compare this glove the PROS27TBR? Those are the two I'm down too. I want a very durable glove that closes easily. My hand is small with long fingers/thumb except for a short pinkie (go figure). DC950
Both are excellent gloves. They both use high quality leather that will be very durable. The Rawlings REVO will be a little easier to break in, and open and close.
Kara
Would this be a good glove for High School fastpitch softball? my daughter plays 1B and outfield? Revo19
The Rawlings REVO 950 Series: 9SC127FD is designed with baseball in mind, but it does have a deeper than average pocket and would work just find for fastpitch softball.
Tyler
Would you recommend a trapeze style web like this, or an H-Style web for a center fielder? Mike
Both would be perfect for Center field/Outfield use. The Rawlings REVO 950 Series: 9SC127FD does have the Trapeze style Web. If you are unfamiliar with the feel of a Trapeze Web I would say it does take a little bit of getting used to. The Trapeze Web and H-Web are loved and preferred by many Professional Center fielders. It is more of a player preference whether or not you like one or the other. I would say you need to try both on and get a feel each and allow that to make your decision. Both are great webs for Center field use though.

Kara
About how long will it take to break in? How does this compare to the Gold Glove Legend Series outfield glove? johnathan
The Rawlings REVO 950 Series: 9SC127FD will take about a week to fully break-in the glove. The Rawlings REVO is a more durable leather than the Rawlings Gold Glove Legend Series.
Frank
I'm currently using an old Rawlings SG56 Fastback. I believe it is a 12" mitt, which I've had for 20+ years. It feels kind of small on me, but I'm worried about going to a 12.75" glove. Is that really much of a jump? (I'm 51, 6'0", 220). I primarily thrown with my boys and coach. BW
Holding a 12.75" glove like the Rawlings REVO 950 Series: 9SC127FD next to a 12" model, you'll definitely be able to tell a difference. If comparing gloves from the same series or manufacturer, a 12" glove will often fit the same as a 12.75" glove. The difference is a 12.75" glove will have a taller and deeper pocket. 12.75" is the most common size outfielders glove for MLB players. If you just need a glove to use when coaching or playing catch in the yards, a 12.75" model will work just fine.
Tyler
How big is the hand? This glove would be for my 11 year old. scott

About the Brand

Rawlings is a major manufacturer of competitive team sports equipment and apparel for baseball, basketball, and football, as well as licensed MLB, NFL, and NCAA retail products. Rawlings is a major supplier to professional, collegiate, interscholastic, and amateur organizations worldwide, including the Official Baseball Supplier to Major League Baseball.

The first real innovation in glove making occurred in 1912 when Rawlings Sporting Goods Company introduced the "Sure Catch" glove, which was "endorsed by leading players all over the country." The Sure Catch was a one-piece glove with sewn-in finger channels and looked better suited for a duck's foot than a man's hand. Catchers' mitts used at the time were large and bulky with a single leather thong passing for a web.

In 1920, Bill Doak, a journeyman pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, approached Rawlings with an idea for improving the baseball glove from a mere protective device to a genuine aid in fielding. The "Bill Doak" model was so revolutionary that it stayed in Rawlings' line until 1953. Its key feature was a multi-thong web laced into the first finger and thumb, which created for the first time in baseball's young life, a natural pocket.

In 1925, Rawlings unveiled a three-fingered fielder's glove, and ten years later improved the Bill Doak model with a two-piece leather web. At the same time, the "T" web became a rage for first basemen's mitts. The pocket underwent a pronounced change in 1941 when the Trapper Mitt, also known as the Claw, appeared. The "Deep Well" pocket was so unique that Rawlings quickly patented it. The design was improved in 1950 by adding a leather piece across the top. Another significant creation occurred in 1948 with the three-fingered Playmaker. A five-fingered fielder's model, with all fingers laced together, provided greater pocket control.

The six-fingered Trap-Eze evolved in the 1960's. In more recent years, Rawlings produced the Fastback design, which gives a glove a snugger fit, greater extension, and overall control. The Holdster is a slot through which a finger can be extended for additional protection from impacts on the pocket. Then, there is the Edge-U-Cated Heel with its extended U-shaped lacing and the Pro H Web and much-copied Basket Web.

Some of Rawlings's more recent glove innovations also include the unique Spin-Stopper design which reduces ball spin when the ball hits the glove, and the Cantilever glove design feature that provides a cushioned area between the hand and the glove's palm area. In all, Rawlings has produced and patented more functionally innovative glove features and designs than that of any other glove manufacturer. The result is that the modern baseball glove is much larger, more comfortable, better padded, and made to last far longer than its ancestors. It is not uncommon to see today's Major League players wearing the same Rawlings glove they wore during their college playing days. In fact, Rawlings is the #1 glove in the major leagues. Rawlings maintains about 65 models of baseball and softball mitts and gloves in its line. The prototypes of virtually all of them have been field-tested by professionals before entering a sporting goods dealer's inventory.
