Description

Up until 1875, baseball players didn't even use a glove when playing defense. In the late 1800's, players began using fingerless gloves on both hands, and it wasn't until 1919 that the idea of a "web" was even suggested. Unlike with bats, there are rarely innovations in the glove industry these days that really revolutionize the game. This season, Rawlings will change everything. Introducing the REVO Series player specific gloves from Rawlings. Featuring Solid Core Technology, these gloves eliminate traditional lining, and instead use layers to cater to how a player catches the ball based on position and personal preference. These layers, combined with the absence of heel and palm lacing, result in a glove that is naturally easier to close and less time consuming to break in. The REVO design creates a preformed pocket that gives players a better feel and enhanced grip of the ball, giving new meaning to the phrase "fits like a glove". Rawlings has divided these REVO gloves into three categories classified by pocket depth: Deep, Standard, and Flat. This particular model is part of the REVO 950 Series and is made from Rawlings high quality Pro Select, oil-tanned shell leather with deer tanned cowhide leather lining. The standard 122 degree pocket on this glove breaks in from thumb to index/middle finger, and is tailor-made for players that catch one handed but don't like a deep pocket when fielding the ball. With a Modified Trapeze Web and a conventional open back design, this 11.25 Inch model allows for unparalleled control to snag balls in the infield. Rawlings: Redesigning Defense. Free Shipping!

Pros: This is a very good quality glove. I bought it for my 9 year old, who plays infield and pitcher for a travel team. Above average quality with innovations that made it a breeze to break in. Ended up buying another for my 12 year old travel ball player, who liked the quality leather, weight and solid feel in all the right places. Very happy with this Rawlings Revo glove.

Cons: No cons, really. It came with the finger laces just a bit loose, but a quick tightening took just a couple of minutes.

Is this an Adult Glove? I went through the Glove coach and this is one of the gloves suggested for my 9 year old son. Justin
The Glove Coach probably recommended this glove strictly on size. That being said, this glove is primarily used as middle infielder's glove for players around High School age.

How long will it take to break this glove in? abab
There is not a set time frame on how long it takes to break in gloves. This is a high quality leather, so it will take some time to break in. It depends on how much you use the glove. Using glove oil, and wrapping the glove will help break in the glove more easily.

My son plays with a 11.5 gold series Rawlings. He is 12 years old. Plays infield and pitches. What glove would you suggest for the years ahead? His glove is going on its 3rd season, well kept . des.
Based on your son's age and position(s), a 11.5 glove would actually be the recommended size. However, if you feel an 11.5 inch model is too small, an 11.75 inch glove would be a good size he can use now and grow into. I would stick with Rawlings as that is what he's been using and probably very comfortable with. A few great options are the Rawlings PRO1175DCC, Rawlings PRO1179-125, or Rawlings 9SC117CS.

About the Brand

Rawlings is a major manufacturer of competitive team sports equipment and apparel for baseball, basketball, and football, as well as licensed MLB, NFL, and NCAA retail products. Rawlings is a major supplier to professional, collegiate, interscholastic, and amateur organizations worldwide, including the Official Baseball Supplier to Major League Baseball.

The first real innovation in glove making occurred in 1912 when Rawlings Sporting Goods Company introduced the "Sure Catch" glove, which was "endorsed by leading players all over the country." The Sure Catch was a one-piece glove with sewn-in finger channels and looked better suited for a duck's foot than a man's hand. Catchers' mitts used at the time were large and bulky with a single leather thong passing for a web.

In 1920, Bill Doak, a journeyman pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, approached Rawlings with an idea for improving the baseball glove from a mere protective device to a genuine aid in fielding. The "Bill Doak" model was so revolutionary that it stayed in Rawlings' line until 1953. Its key feature was a multi-thong web laced into the first finger and thumb, which created for the first time in baseball's young life, a natural pocket.

In 1925, Rawlings unveiled a three-fingered fielder's glove, and ten years later improved the Bill Doak model with a two-piece leather web. At the same time, the "T" web became a rage for first basemen's mitts. The pocket underwent a pronounced change in 1941 when the Trapper Mitt, also known as the Claw, appeared. The "Deep Well" pocket was so unique that Rawlings quickly patented it. The design was improved in 1950 by adding a leather piece across the top. Another significant creation occurred in 1948 with the three-fingered Playmaker. A five-fingered fielder's model, with all fingers laced together, provided greater pocket control.

The six-fingered Trap-Eze evolved in the 1960's. In more recent years, Rawlings produced the Fastback design, which gives a glove a snugger fit, greater extension, and overall control. The Holdster is a slot through which a finger can be extended for additional protection from impacts on the pocket. Then, there is the Edge-U-Cated Heel with its extended U-shaped lacing and the Pro H Web and much-copied Basket Web.

Some of Rawlings's more recent glove innovations also include the unique Spin-Stopper design which reduces ball spin when the ball hits the glove, and the Cantilever glove design feature that provides a cushioned area between the hand and the glove's palm area. In all, Rawlings has produced and patented more functionally innovative glove features and designs than that of any other glove manufacturer. The result is that the modern baseball glove is much larger, more comfortable, better padded, and made to last far longer than its ancestors. It is not uncommon to see today's Major League players wearing the same Rawlings glove they wore during their college playing days. In fact, Rawlings is the #1 glove in the major leagues. Rawlings maintains about 65 models of baseball and softball mitts and gloves in its line. The prototypes of virtually all of them have been field-tested by professionals before entering a sporting goods dealer's inventory.
