Description

When it hit the market in 2001, the Rawlings Pro Preferred Series provided an industry-first design with its Kipskin Leather construction. Ever since, it has been a staple for many of baseball's elite players. Each Pro Preferred glove begins with the selection of the high-quality Kip Leather. This leather is only picked from hides weighing 30 pounds or less, giving the end product a lighter feel than a similar design made of Steerhide. Pro Preferred leather features a tight grain structure which leads to a supple feel, exceptional durability, and custom break-in for the player. This Series will require about 60% of the break-in from the player. More structure out of the box lends itself to a longer useful life after seasons-worth of wear. Adding to the overall durability of the glove, Rawlings requires the laces in each Pro Preferred glove to reach 100 lbs tensile strength in testing; where strength is needed most. Each model also helps wick away sweat with the Pittards Performance Sheepskin Palm Lining, and the 100% wool padding ensures a premium fit. Pros: This is the best glove i have ever used by a longshot. This works phenomenally at 3rd base and very well at short and even 2nd for that matter, because of its versatility. I had a wilson a2k and, trust me, pro preferred outmatch a2k's in virtually every category

What are the differences in this glove and the PROS17ICBR? cby

Patrick
What does the IC stand for in the model number? Caleb
The IC in the Rawlings Pro Preferred Series (PROS17ICC) doesn't stand for anything. The model numbers are just a way for companies to identify the glove.
Frankie
Why was the used glove returned? Nate
The Rawlings Pro Preferred Series (PROS17ICC) used model that we have listed on our website was likely returned because an individual did not like the feel of the glove on his hand. The used model may have some slight scuffing from playing catch with, but will come with the exact same 100 day guarantee as our new models.

Why so much money Me
This Rawlings Pro Preferred Series (PROS17ICC) is priced highly because it features high quality kip leather that allows for a well functioning model of glove for an infielder and that same kip leather has proven that it can hold up for long amount of time if taken care of properly.
Ben

Do you think this glove would work for playing SS and second base? SpankyDoo
The Rawlings Pro Preferred Series: PROS17ICC is an infield specific model so it would be perfect for a player at shortstop and second base.

I play 3rd mostly and sometimes 2nd. I was deciding between a Rawlings Pro Preferred and a Wilson A2000 DP15. Which glove would you prefer? J.P
The Rawlings Pro Preferred Series: PROS17ICC and the Wilson A2000 DP15 are both very good gloves to consider for an infielder. The Wilson DP15 will have a smaller wrist opening and tighter finger stalls which may not be a great fit for everyone. As for playing 3B and 2B, we would recommend getting an 11.50 inch pattern as this will be a better glove for turning double plays. The Rawlings Pro Preferred Series: PROS17ICC has a 11.75 inch pattern and would be great for 3B but not necessarily for 2B.
Cameron
What does the Wingtip backing do different from the standard backing on a Rawlings Pro Preferred glove? hreade
The amount of welting on the back of the fingers of your standard Rawlings Pro Preferred model will cause the glove to be stiffer at the outset and make the glove a little harder to break in overall. A Wingtip model like this Rawlings Pro Preferred Series (PROS17ICC) features less welting on the back of the fingers (whencompared to a regular Pro Preferred model) which will result in making the glove easier to break in right after you get it out of the box.

About the Brand

Rawlings is a major manufacturer of competitive team sports equipment and apparel for baseball, basketball, and football, as well as licensed MLB, NFL, and NCAA retail products. Rawlings is a major supplier to professional, collegiate, interscholastic, and amateur organizations worldwide, including the Official Baseball Supplier to Major League Baseball.

The first real innovation in glove making occurred in 1912 when Rawlings Sporting Goods Company introduced the "Sure Catch" glove, which was "endorsed by leading players all over the country." The Sure Catch was a one-piece glove with sewn-in finger channels and looked better suited for a duck's foot than a man's hand. Catchers' mitts used at the time were large and bulky with a single leather thong passing for a web.

In 1920, Bill Doak, a journeyman pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, approached Rawlings with an idea for improving the baseball glove from a mere protective device to a genuine aid in fielding. The "Bill Doak" model was so revolutionary that it stayed in Rawlings' line until 1953. Its key feature was a multi-thong web laced into the first finger and thumb, which created for the first time in baseball's young life, a natural pocket.

In 1925, Rawlings unveiled a three-fingered fielder's glove, and ten years later improved the Bill Doak model with a two-piece leather web. At the same time, the "T" web became a rage for first basemen's mitts. The pocket underwent a pronounced change in 1941 when the Trapper Mitt, also known as the Claw, appeared. The "Deep Well" pocket was so unique that Rawlings quickly patented it. The design was improved in 1950 by adding a leather piece across the top. Another significant creation occurred in 1948 with the three-fingered Playmaker. A five-fingered fielder's model, with all fingers laced together, provided greater pocket control.

The six-fingered Trap-Eze evolved in the 1960's. In more recent years, Rawlings produced the Fastback design, which gives a glove a snugger fit, greater extension, and overall control. The Holdster is a slot through which a finger can be extended for additional protection from impacts on the pocket. Then, there is the Edge-U-Cated Heel with its extended U-shaped lacing and the Pro H Web and much-copied Basket Web.

Some of Rawlings's more recent glove innovations also include the unique Spin-Stopper design which reduces ball spin when the ball hits the glove, and the Cantilever glove design feature that provides a cushioned area between the hand and the glove's palm area. In all, Rawlings has produced and patented more functionally innovative glove features and designs than that of any other glove manufacturer. The result is that the modern baseball glove is much larger, more comfortable, better padded, and made to last far longer than its ancestors. It is not uncommon to see today's Major League players wearing the same Rawlings glove they wore during their college playing days. In fact, Rawlings is the #1 glove in the major leagues. Rawlings maintains about 65 models of baseball and softball mitts and gloves in its line. The prototypes of virtually all of them have been field-tested by professionals before entering a sporting goods dealer's inventory.
