Pros: The lacing is high quality and very strong. Also, the glove is very easy to tighten.

Cons: The glove is starting to wear in the pocket and leather has started to crack in palm and pocket after one season. Pocket started to tear after first session of catch. I recommend a Wilson a2k or Heart of the Hide.

Pros: This glove is crazy good! The leather is SUPER tight and stiff and if you play third like me and like a tight glove then I would defiantly get this. It takes a LONG time to break in but to me I personally like that so I know this glove is solid.

Cons: None yet.

Pros: the quality of the shell leather and quality of the structure of the glove are better than any other glove. the lace will last you as long as the glove will. will mold which ever way you want...flare...roll...standard.

Cons: the lining was wearing within 3 months of light use...the thumb area as well as the ring finger wore through the top layer. the comfort ability was descent except for the welting on the thumb was rubbing against my finger non stop. wilson gloves beats rawlings on the overall comfort but the quality of the shell layer and pocket is unmatched.

We recommend high school shortstops use a 11.5" glove. This is what most college and professional players will use but there are some who may like a 11.25" or a 11.75". The Rawlings Pro Preferred Series (PROS17ICBR) would be an awesome choice if he is looking for a 11.75" or spends a little time at third base. If you are looking for a 11.50" glove strictly then the Rawlings Pro Preferred Series (PROS200-2MO) or Rawlings Pro Preferred Series (PROS15MTBR) are both outstanding models.
Aaron
What size would you recommend for a 2nd baseman/shortstop? I've been looking at an 11.75", but is that too big? MP
Most middle infielders prefer an 11.50" model. but an 11.25" or an 11.75" pattern works as well. The Rawlings Pro Preferred Series (PROS17ICBR) is a great 11.75" model for a middle infielder that wants a little more glove.
Jason
Is having a palm pad in a glove good? I don't want too much bulk but I want to know if having a palm pad is worth it. 2b
While padding in the palm can give the glove a slightly heavier feel, the protection against sting and added comfort is the trade off you see with the added weight. The Rawlings Pro Preferred Series (PROS17ICBR) is a surprisingly lightweight glove while managing to provide superior comfort and durability.
Patrick

Justin R.
what would be the best Rawlings pro preferred glove for a 16 year old boy for shortstop in fast pitch softball. Declan Su'a
Unfortunately the Rawlings Pro Preferred Series (PROS17ICBR) is made for baseball. Generally speaking fast pitch gloves are made for girls fast pitch.
Jackson
What is the difference between Pro Preferred, Heart of the Hide and Primo? Max
The major difference between the series that Rawlings features would be the leather used for the glove. The Rawlings Primo is the top of the line and it is made of full-grain Italian leather that has a tight grain structure that allows for a flawless appearance. The gloves lining is made of Italian calfskin which makes for a smooth feel. The Pro Preferred is the next step down from the Primo and it features a Pro Preferred Kip leather shell which has strong, pliable fibers with a smooth, defect-free surface that breaks into your playing preference. Kip leather is a bit lighter and only slightly less durable than steer hide. Heart of the Hide leather features unmatched durability and is tanned softer which allows for a shorter break-in time. It features a softer feel out of the box which some players prefer.
Patrick
Would this glove be too big for a 14 year old shortstop? stud4
We are currently out of stock of the Rawlings Pro Preferred Series: (PROS17ICBR). However, based on your age, the suggested glove size we would recommend would be 11.75. Therefore, I think this model would fit you very well.
Merritt
Will you get this glove back in stock? kyle
We are expecting to get more Rawlings Pro Preferred Series (PROS17ICBR) back in stock. Typically, out of stock items take 2-4 weeks to be back in stock.
Jason
Because this glove has the Wing Tip feature, does that make it better than the other Pro Preferred's? crazy
The Rawlings Pro Preferred Series (PROS17ICBR) and the wing tip feature will add strength to the back of the glove. I would say this is a great feature but will not change the overall durability or performance of the Pro Preferred Series.
Brandon
How does this leather compare to a Wilson A2000? dave4545
The Rawlings Pro Preferred Series (PROS17ICBR) has a higher quality leather than the Wilson A2000. The Kip leather keeps the glove stiff, but provides it with a lighter feel. The leather used in the Pro Preferred is more comparable to the leather used in the Wilson A2K.
Jason
What is the difference between a Pro Preferred and a Heart of the Hide? I want a high end, durable glove, but do they have a different feel or anything like that? Joe
Pro Preferred models use a higher grade Kip Leather. This leather will be stiffer and require a decent break-in period. Pro Preferred's hold their shape generally longer than the Heart of the Hide models. Heart of the Hide's use Steer Hide. Heart of the Hide's will also require a break-in period but will not be as stiff as the Pro Preferred's.
John
Is this a 2015 or 2014 model? cobobaseball
The Rawlings Pro Preferred Series (PROS17ICBR) really doesn't have a model year, but we've been receiving this particular model since 2010.

Patrick
Will this glove last longer than a Rawlings Heart of the Hide? i'm looking for that glove that will last me longer. Thanks! jonny allen
Both of these glove are great options. The Rawlings Pro Preferred Series (PROS17ICBR) is going to be more durable and last longer than the Rawlings Heart of the Hide Game Day Series (PRO1175-6SLM) because of the kip leather it is made of.
Allison
Would it be easy to curve the fingers in? jj
The Rawlings Pro Preferred Series (PROS17ICBR) features a kip leather construction that allows for a fairly easy break-in period. Additionally, since the kip leather is pliable, it would be fairly easy to curve the fingers and shape the glove. Due to the high quality of the leather, it will keep its structure long-term.
Joe
I would rather play outfield with a small glove than infield with a big glove, so I want to know if the pocket on this glove would be too deep to make a quick double play transfer? casey
The Rawlings Pro Preferred Series (PROS17ICBR) features an 11.75 inch infield pattern. The pocket on this glove is ideal for middle infield and utility usage, as it is fairly shallow.
Joe
What does the wingtip feature mean? walkerb
"Wingtip" refers to the style of the leather backing on the Rawlings Pro Preferred Series (PROS17ICBR). It is a single piece of leather across the back of the glove that will add significant strength to the fingers of the glove.
Joe
How would you flare this glove when breaking it in? walker
The Rawlings Pro Preferred Series (PROS17ICBR), like most gloves, can be flared when breaking it in by repeatedly working in the pinky and thumb of the glove to angle them outward about half way up the finger. There are several videos online at sites like Youtube.com that give detailed instructions on how to go about this process. There are also tools that are sold to help form the gloves to this shape.
Patrick
Is the glove true to its size? Does it play like an 11.75" or 11.50"? JP3
Yes, the Rawlings Pro Preferred Series (PROS17ICBR) will run true to size. It will fit like an 11.75" pattern.
Tessa
Can you send pictures of the used glove? Cowboy
In general, pictures do not usually do a good job of relating the level of use or wear on the gloves so we do not keep photos of the used models on file. You would still have the 100 day guarantee on used models so if the glove comes in and is not what you had in mind, we can get it taken back for you for a full refund within the 100 days after your purchase.
Patrick
Can this be used for the outfield in high school? j-03
The Rawlings Pro Preferred Series (PROS17ICBR) features an 11.75" pattern, which may be on the small side for a high school outfielder. Typically outfielders will use anywhere from a 12"-12.75". Sizing is preferential though, so if you prefer to use a smaller 11.75" glove, that is something to take into consideration as well.
Tessa
what condition is the used version in? hello pp
The used option that is available of the Rawlings Pro Preferred Series (PROS17ICBR) is listed as in "Good" condition which would indicate a moderate amount of use. It may show signs of use such as dirt or slight scuffing but would still be perfectly fine for play. More specifics are not listed as it is hard to relate a used condition in descriptive terms. If you get the glove and do not like it, you will be eligible for a return for the first 100 days after your purchase.
Patrick

About the Brand

Rawlings is a major manufacturer of competitive team sports equipment and apparel for baseball, basketball, and football, as well as licensed MLB, NFL, and NCAA retail products. Rawlings is a major supplier to professional, collegiate, interscholastic, and amateur organizations worldwide, including the Official Baseball Supplier to Major League Baseball.

The first real innovation in glove making occurred in 1912 when Rawlings Sporting Goods Company introduced the "Sure Catch" glove, which was "endorsed by leading players all over the country." The Sure Catch was a one-piece glove with sewn-in finger channels and looked better suited for a duck's foot than a man's hand. Catchers' mitts used at the time were large and bulky with a single leather thong passing for a web.

In 1920, Bill Doak, a journeyman pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, approached Rawlings with an idea for improving the baseball glove from a mere protective device to a genuine aid in fielding. The "Bill Doak" model was so revolutionary that it stayed in Rawlings' line until 1953. Its key feature was a multi-thong web laced into the first finger and thumb, which created for the first time in baseball's young life, a natural pocket.

In 1925, Rawlings unveiled a three-fingered fielder's glove, and ten years later improved the Bill Doak model with a two-piece leather web. At the same time, the "T" web became a rage for first basemen's mitts. The pocket underwent a pronounced change in 1941 when the Trapper Mitt, also known as the Claw, appeared. The "Deep Well" pocket was so unique that Rawlings quickly patented it. The design was improved in 1950 by adding a leather piece across the top. Another significant creation occurred in 1948 with the three-fingered Playmaker. A five-fingered fielder's model, with all fingers laced together, provided greater pocket control.

The six-fingered Trap-Eze evolved in the 1960's. In more recent years, Rawlings produced the Fastback design, which gives a glove a snugger fit, greater extension, and overall control. The Holdster is a slot through which a finger can be extended for additional protection from impacts on the pocket. Then, there is the Edge-U-Cated Heel with its extended U-shaped lacing and the Pro H Web and much-copied Basket Web.

Some of Rawlings's more recent glove innovations also include the unique Spin-Stopper design which reduces ball spin when the ball hits the glove, and the Cantilever glove design feature that provides a cushioned area between the hand and the glove's palm area. In all, Rawlings has produced and patented more functionally innovative glove features and designs than that of any other glove manufacturer. The result is that the modern baseball glove is much larger, more comfortable, better padded, and made to last far longer than its ancestors. It is not uncommon to see today's Major League players wearing the same Rawlings glove they wore during their college playing days. In fact, Rawlings is the #1 glove in the major leagues. Rawlings maintains about 65 models of baseball and softball mitts and gloves in its line. The prototypes of virtually all of them have been field-tested by professionals before entering a sporting goods dealer's inventory.
