Description

These Premium Pro Series gloves are constructed from soft, Full-Grain Leather and feature Rawlings' patented Solid Core Technology that's enhanced by OPTI-FIT. Living up to its name, OPTI-FIT is a new innovation that is designed to improve how the glove fits on the player's hand. A better fit leads to not only better overall feel, but it results in enhanced grip for maximum command over the glove throughout the entire fielding process. This Series offers another breakthrough in glove design with a Lace-Less Heel and Palm Construction. By creating a one-piece palm that omits the often-bulky laces you find in traditional designs, these gloves provide better feel for the ball in the pocket and reduce break-in time. The Premium Pro Series is all about "fit", "feel", and "function", and you can pick yours up today with Fast, Free Shipping and a 100 Day Money-Back Guarantee at JustBallGloves.com!

Pros: This glove is great! My 9 year used this in a tourney 3 days after it being shipped and didn't miss a ball that was thrown his way. Little to no break in is required.

Cons: None yet

Good glove for the price Bryan A. parent

Pros: My 13 year old wore it right out of the box and was able to catch the ball. It was a little stiff, but not too stiff that she couldn't squeeze the ball. It was a good fit and feel for her hand

Cons: The opening to get her hand inside the glove was narrow.

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Rawlings Premium Pro Series: PPRFM18 First Base Mitt? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

I am shopping for several gloves for my 8 year old grandson. What sizes do you have this glove. We are thinking about 11 to 11.5 for a outfielder's glove. What size glove do you recommend for a first baseman's glove? Any special pricing if we buy both gloves together? Chris
The Rawlings Premium Pro Series (PPRFM18 First Base Mitt) comes in a 12.50 inch pattern. May want to consider a smaller mitt such as this one: Rawlings GG Gamer Youth Pro Taper Series (GFMPTBC First Base Mitt) as it comes in a 12.00 inch pattern. As for an OF glove, an 11.50 inch pattern would be a great size. The options aren't as numerous so you may want to consider an 11.75 inch pattern such as the Rawlings RCS Series (RCS175S) or the 2016 Rawlings GG Gamer XLE Series (G1175CCLE). As for special pricing, we wouldn't be able to offer anything along those lines but you do get a 100 day guarantee on these gloves as well as free shipping both ways.

What size first base mit do you need for a 5'8 240 lb freshman in high school? seth
Most baseball players who are 15 and play 1B will use a 12.50 inch pattern 1B mitt like the Rawlings Premium Pro Series: PPRFM18 First Base Mitt.
Cameron
Is this a good first base mitt for high school? He doesn't play first base all the time so I don't want to spend a lot. Staylor
Yes, the Rawlings Premium Pro Series: PPRFM18 First Base Mitt may be used at the high school level.

what size is this glove bc im a 5'8 175 1st basemen and need a glove? it doesnt say how many inches, also whats a ideal size for me to buy? harry
The Rawlings Premium Pro Series: PPRFM18 First Base Mitt is going to feature a 12.50" pattern. This glove would be an ideal fit for a first basemen of your size.
Nick
Is the leather on this glove flimsy or is it firm like it should feel? highschoolplayer
The Rawlings Premium Pro Series: PPRFM18 First Base Mitt will not be flimsy but it will be more supple and game ready out of the box due to the soft, full-grain leather shell. This glove, over time, could become "flimsy" as the soft, full-grain leather shell may not hold it shape as long as other models that will feature a higher cut of leather.

Bought this glove for my 14 year old son who has very large hands for his age. He was not able to get his hand into the glove. We ended up returning it. Any suggestions on what glove we can buy? BigAl
To get a Rawlings model that will fit the hand of your player better than this Rawlings Premium Pro Series (PPRFM18 First Base Mitt), I might recommend looking to the Rawlings Heart of the Hide Game Day Series (PRODCTJBT First Base Mitt) which is 13.00" in length. It will be more expensive, but the length and fitting will certainly fit him at his age and size.

Which is a higher quality mitt between this and the GFM18GT? Ken Carter
In regard to quality, the mitts will be pretty similar. However, I would give the edge to the GFM18GT First Base Mitt as it features the PORON XRD Palm and Index Finger Pad to add extra protection for the player's hand. Also, the GFM18GT has all-lather finger linings which leads to more durability. This Rawlings Premium Pro Series (PPRFM18 First Base Mitt) is still a great glove, just misses a few components in comparison to the GFM18GT.

Which glove is better the PPRFM18 or the PFBDCT? My son is 11 and wants something to replace is 11-1/2" first base mitt. He plays both travel and little league. J$
Both the Rawlings Premium Pro Series (PPRFM18) First Base Mitt and the 2017 Rawlings Player Preferred 12.5" First Base Mitt (PFBDCT) are going to be pretty comparable gloves. The PPRFM18 is going to come in a little bit stiffer and be a little higher higher quality than the PFBDCT. With that being said they are going to be extremely comparable gloves and you are really not going to notice much difference either way.
Carter
My son really liked this 1st base mitt; he is 10 years old. Would it be too big for him? Big Pete
The Rawlings Premium Pro Series (PPRFM18) First Base Mitt is more designed for adult players but if he has larger hands I think this would work fine for him. It is hard to tell with gloves through and we have a 100 day guarantee so you can go ahead and try it out and if it does not work out for him we will pay for the shipping back to us and you could return it.

About the Brand

Rawlings is a major manufacturer of competitive team sports equipment and apparel for baseball, basketball, and football, as well as licensed MLB, NFL, and NCAA retail products. Rawlings is a major supplier to professional, collegiate, interscholastic, and amateur organizations worldwide, including the Official Baseball Supplier to Major League Baseball.

The first real innovation in glove making occurred in 1912 when Rawlings Sporting Goods Company introduced the "Sure Catch" glove, which was "endorsed by leading players all over the country." The Sure Catch was a one-piece glove with sewn-in finger channels and looked better suited for a duck's foot than a man's hand. Catchers' mitts used at the time were large and bulky with a single leather thong passing for a web.

In 1920, Bill Doak, a journeyman pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, approached Rawlings with an idea for improving the baseball glove from a mere protective device to a genuine aid in fielding. The "Bill Doak" model was so revolutionary that it stayed in Rawlings' line until 1953. Its key feature was a multi-thong web laced into the first finger and thumb, which created for the first time in baseball's young life, a natural pocket.

In 1925, Rawlings unveiled a three-fingered fielder's glove, and ten years later improved the Bill Doak model with a two-piece leather web. At the same time, the "T" web became a rage for first basemen's mitts. The pocket underwent a pronounced change in 1941 when the Trapper Mitt, also known as the Claw, appeared. The "Deep Well" pocket was so unique that Rawlings quickly patented it. The design was improved in 1950 by adding a leather piece across the top. Another significant creation occurred in 1948 with the three-fingered Playmaker. A five-fingered fielder's model, with all fingers laced together, provided greater pocket control.

The six-fingered Trap-Eze evolved in the 1960's. In more recent years, Rawlings produced the Fastback design, which gives a glove a snugger fit, greater extension, and overall control. The Holdster is a slot through which a finger can be extended for additional protection from impacts on the pocket. Then, there is the Edge-U-Cated Heel with its extended U-shaped lacing and the Pro H Web and much-copied Basket Web.

Some of Rawlings's more recent glove innovations also include the unique Spin-Stopper design which reduces ball spin when the ball hits the glove, and the Cantilever glove design feature that provides a cushioned area between the hand and the glove's palm area. In all, Rawlings has produced and patented more functionally innovative glove features and designs than that of any other glove manufacturer. The result is that the modern baseball glove is much larger, more comfortable, better padded, and made to last far longer than its ancestors. It is not uncommon to see today's Major League players wearing the same Rawlings glove they wore during their college playing days. In fact, Rawlings is the #1 glove in the major leagues. Rawlings maintains about 65 models of baseball and softball mitts and gloves in its line. The prototypes of virtually all of them have been field-tested by professionals before entering a sporting goods dealer's inventory.
