What's the difference between this and a Heart of the Hide? YourKillinMeSmalls
This Rawlings HOH Mark Of A Pro 11.5" Baseball Glove (SP204-4SHB) will differ from a true Heart of the Hide mitt as the leather quality on this mitt will be lacking when compared to the leather quality on a true Heart of the Hide.
Ben
How does the Gamer XLE compare to the HOH Mark of a Pro? I'm in that price range for my 10 year old infielder and trying to make the best choice. Offtoanywhere
The Gamer XLE will last longer, it requires a little break in for the player allowing it to last longer. The Rawlings HOH Mark Of A Pro 11.5" Baseball Glove (SP204-4SHB) comes game ready making it get worn out quicker. Gamer XLE offers an I-Web while the (SP204-4SHB) is a Modified T. If you do decide to use the (SP204-4SHB) I would use an old glove or buy another one and practice with that and use this as a game glove.
Mick
What are the most important differences between this glove and Rawlings PRO204-4JB, which sells for $199? This is for a 15-year-old HS player. Todd
The Rawlings HOH Mark Of A Pro 11.5" Baseball Glove: SP204-4SHB is crafted from leftover Heart of the Hide soft leather. This glove, when compared to the 2017 Rawlings Heart of the Hide 11.5" Baseball Glove: PRO204-4JB, will feature a lower leather quality but will allow the glove to be easier to break in from the manufacturer.
Cameron
Is this a good option for a 13u player if 3rd base is his secondary position? Or is the XLE a better option? I see that the leather on the XLE is more durable but it looks like the HOH is game ready with minimal break-in. Kelly
The 11.2" size of The Rawlings HOH Mark Of A Pro 11.5" Baseball Glove: SP204-4SHB will work well for 3rd base and it will feature Heart of the Hide soft leather. The Rawlings HOH Mark Of A Pro 11.5" Baseball Glove: SP204-4SHB will also be more game ready than the XLE option.
Dan
How would this work for a 14 year old outfielder / 3rd basemen? Scott
This Rawlings HOH Mark Of A Pro 11.5" Baseball Glove (SP204-4SHB) will feature an 11.50" length to it which would be fine for use at 3rd base for a 14 year old. However, it might be a little small for use in the outfield. The 14 year old age can tend to be the period where a player that splits time between the infield and outfield needs two different gloves. However, if you wanted a glove that could be used between both positions, I would recommend looking to a 12" length mitt.
Ben
I was looking at this glove, someone left a message about a 14 yr old that would play both infield and outfield. Someone recommended that a 12" might be better. My son is 14 and they still rotate then between infield and outfield. What is the difference from 11.5 for infield and 12 for outfield, is that measurement to give the glove a taller glove - is there much of a difference. Thanks. John
Yes, the 12" glove will give the player a larger pocket for fly balls while still maintaining the integrity of an infielders glove.
Dan
I'm looking for the Rawlings HOH Pro AR3 RHT 11.5 Baseball glove. Do you have this? Ellen
The Rawlings HOH Mark Of A Pro 11.5" Baseball Glove: SP204-4SHB is currently in stock for a RHT. Unfortunately the is not in stock.
Cameron
Would this glove be good for a high school 3rd baseman? Vinny
I would recommend a 11.50 inch glove for a high school 3rd baseman so this glove would be a great option.
Dan
Would this work for a 12 year old pitcher/3rd baseman? nae
Yes, the Rawlings HOH Mark Of A Pro 11.5" Baseball Glove: SP204-4SHB would work very well for a 12 year old pitcher/3rd baseman. Most players around the age of 12 move into an adult glove like this HOH model.
Jason
Is this a good glove for a 12 yr old playing 2nd and 3rd base or do you have another option? brewers13
The Rawlings HOH Mark Of A Pro 11.5" Baseball Glove (SP204-4SHB) is a great fit for any infielder. As for another option, I would recommend checking out the Rawlings Heart of the Hide Dual Core 11.5" Baseball Glove (PRO314DC-2BCS) it's also an 11.5" infielder's glove but it utilizes the Pro I-Web instead of this Modified Trapeze Web.
Tyler
May I know if this glove is leather? Emir
The Rawlings HOH Mark Of A Pro 11.5" Baseball Glove: SP204-4SHB features the left over leather hides that are used to construct the Heart of the Hide models. Thus these gloves are constructed from steerhide leather.
Cameron
Would this glove be suitable for playing 3B in an 18+ men's league? joego bats
I think the Rawlings HOH Mark Of A Pro 11.5" Baseball Glove: SP204-4SHB would work at third base for your men's league. However, I think it would be more beneficial to move up to a 12" glove. I would recommend the Rawlings Heart of the Hide Series: PRO206-9JB if you wanted something similar with a 12 inch web pattern.
Dan
What size glove should I get if my hand is 1 ft from thumb to pinkie? biggdaddyhax15
Glove size is more determined by position as opposed to hand size. The Rawlings HOH Mark Of A Pro 11.5" Baseball Glove: SP204-4SHB is a model best suited for infield play (middle infield and 3B).
Cameron
My son is twelve and he plays center-field and 3rd base. Would this be a good glove for him or should I move him up to a 12 inch glove? Lilrosy4
The Rawlings HOH Mark Of A Pro 11.5" Baseball Glove: SP204-4SHB could work well for a 12 year old player seeking a utility glove. Moving forward, this glove would be best suited for infield play. Would recommend getting a larger glove around 14-15 if the player is primarily playing OF; a 12.50-12.75 inch glove would be ideal for OF.
Cameron
Is there really much of a practical difference between glove web design within the same model glove? Is it just preference if trapeze, I-web, H-web, etc.? Felix
It would be more of personal preference. The Rawlings HOH Mark Of A Pro 11.5" Baseball Glove: SP204-4SHB features a modified trapeze web making it a great option for an infielder/pitcher.
Cameron
Would this be good for a 14 year old playing SS or 2nd base, sometimes 1st or Pitcher? I'm a utility player. Jax
The Rawlings HOH Mark Of A Pro 11.5" Baseball Glove: SP204-4SHB is a great option for a 14 year old middle infielder/pitcher. The 11.50 inch design is a great fit for middle infield play and the wrist opening would work well from a fit standpoint. As well, the modified trapeze web allows a pitcher to conceal the grip on the ball making it an option for a pitcher. For 1B though we would recommend using something else.
Cameron
Does this glove have the smaller/snugger hand fit, like a Wilson Pedroia Fit? I am an 11 year old who plays 3rd base and pitcher. JW
The Rawlings HOH Mark Of A Pro 11.5" Baseball Glove: SP204-4SHB does not have a similar fitting to that of a Wilson Pedroia fit model. This glove will have a larger wrist opening and finger stalls compared to a Wilson DP15 glove.

About the Brand

Rawlings is a major manufacturer of competitive team sports equipment and apparel for baseball, basketball, and football, as well as licensed MLB, NFL, and NCAA retail products. Rawlings is a major supplier to professional, collegiate, interscholastic, and amateur organizations worldwide, including the Official Baseball Supplier to Major League Baseball.

The first real innovation in glove making occurred in 1912 when Rawlings Sporting Goods Company introduced the "Sure Catch" glove, which was "endorsed by leading players all over the country." The Sure Catch was a one-piece glove with sewn-in finger channels and looked better suited for a duck's foot than a man's hand. Catchers' mitts used at the time were large and bulky with a single leather thong passing for a web.

In 1920, Bill Doak, a journeyman pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, approached Rawlings with an idea for improving the baseball glove from a mere protective device to a genuine aid in fielding. The "Bill Doak" model was so revolutionary that it stayed in Rawlings' line until 1953. Its key feature was a multi-thong web laced into the first finger and thumb, which created for the first time in baseball's young life, a natural pocket.

In 1925, Rawlings unveiled a three-fingered fielder's glove, and ten years later improved the Bill Doak model with a two-piece leather web. At the same time, the "T" web became a rage for first basemen's mitts. The pocket underwent a pronounced change in 1941 when the Trapper Mitt, also known as the Claw, appeared. The "Deep Well" pocket was so unique that Rawlings quickly patented it. The design was improved in 1950 by adding a leather piece across the top. Another significant creation occurred in 1948 with the three-fingered Playmaker. A five-fingered fielder's model, with all fingers laced together, provided greater pocket control.

The six-fingered Trap-Eze evolved in the 1960's. In more recent years, Rawlings produced the Fastback design, which gives a glove a snugger fit, greater extension, and overall control. The Holdster is a slot through which a finger can be extended for additional protection from impacts on the pocket. Then, there is the Edge-U-Cated Heel with its extended U-shaped lacing and the Pro H Web and much-copied Basket Web.

Some of Rawlings's more recent glove innovations also include the unique Spin-Stopper design which reduces ball spin when the ball hits the glove, and the Cantilever glove design feature that provides a cushioned area between the hand and the glove's palm area. In all, Rawlings has produced and patented more functionally innovative glove features and designs than that of any other glove manufacturer. The result is that the modern baseball glove is much larger, more comfortable, better padded, and made to last far longer than its ancestors. It is not uncommon to see today's Major League players wearing the same Rawlings glove they wore during their college playing days. In fact, Rawlings is the #1 glove in the major leagues. Rawlings maintains about 65 models of baseball and softball mitts and gloves in its line. The prototypes of virtually all of them have been field-tested by professionals before entering a sporting goods dealer's inventory.
