Description

During a legacy that has spanned over 125 years, baseball fans have been catching glimpses of the iconic red patch on the back of their favorite players' hands. It seems ironic when you consider the simplicity of their script logo, as Rawlings continues to craft "simply" the highest quality equipment on the market. Constructed from a softer-tanned Heart of the Hide Leather, each Game Day Series offers a reduced break-in time without sacrificing structure or longevity. To add to the durable design, these gloves feature full grain leather binding and Tennessee Tanning leather laces. They also have a deer-tanned cowhide palm and finger back linings for strength, comfort and durability. The quality of these gloves is apparent to the game's elite players, and now you can have the same technology that they demand on game-day. Rawlings: The Mark of a Pro. Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Rawlings Heart of the Hide Salvador Perez Game Day Series: PROSP13GTB Catcher's Mitt? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

Is it stiffer than the A2000 1791? Dayn-O
The Rawlings Heart of the Hide Salvador Perez Game Day Series (PROSP13GTB) Catcher's Mitt will feel very similar to the Wilson A2000 1791. The break-in time will be about the same.
John
What sizes does it come in? Mike
The Rawlings Heart of the Hide Salvador Perez Game Day Series (PROSP13GTB) is available in 32.5" pattern.
John
Do you think it should be oiled? Johnny
A small amount of glove oil used on the Rawlings Heart of the Hide Salvador Perez Game Day Series (PROSP13GTB) should help to soften it up a bit but you would not want to use a lot of oil because it will make it too soft and cause it to feel heavier.
Patrick
Is the Heart of the Hide 32.50 pro mesh basically the same glove other than the weight? ron
The Rawlings Heart of the Hide Salvador Perez Game Day Series: PROSP13GTB Catcher's Mitt is not going to be the same as the pro mesh catcher's mitt (other than the weight). Some of the pro mesh mitts will feature the PORON® XRD™ palm pad, which reduces the impact of the ball. Nothing drastic but there will be some slight differences.
Cameron
How does this compare to the Heart of the Hide 32.5" Pro Mesh catchers mitt? Is the Heart of the Hide 32.5" Pro mesh Basically the same glove other than the weight? ron
This Rawlings Heart of the Hide Salvador Perez Game Day Series (PROSP13GTB Catcher's Mitt) will feature the same quality of leather and the same 32.5" length as the Heart of the Hide Pro Mesh Series (PROJP20MX Catcher's Mitt). However, you will notice that this Salvador Perez model features a different cosmetic scheme and no mesh on it. Overall, I wouldn't say that the gloves are the exact same besides the weight, but they will be pretty similar.
Ben
This glove looks big from the video for a 13 year old who is 5'3" and 100 lbs. What are your thoughts? I am also looking at the 32" Shoeless Joe. K-cap
Our general recommendation for a 13 year old catcher is a 32" pattern. The Rawlings Heart of the Hide Salvador Perez Game Day Series: PROSP13GTB Catcher's Mitt is 32.5" which is also a suitable size. Depending on the size of the player's hand and what they are comfortable using, this model may be a good fit. We offer a 100 day money-back guarantee on all of our gloves so you can certainly return a glove if it is not to your liking.

looking for a heart of the hide quality mitt for my 10 yr old. But am afraid this mitt is too big. What do you recomend? KBZ
The Rawlings Heart of the Hide Salvador Perez Game Day Series (PROSP13GTB) Catcher's Mitt is actually going to be the smallest Heart of the Hide catchers glove that Rawlings is going to offer. If you feel that your son is not ready yet for an adult glove I would recommend using the 2017 Rawlings Gamer Youth Pro Taper 32" Catcher's Mitt (GCM32PTB) for a year or two until he is ready to fit into an adult glove and then come back and take a look at the Heart of the Hide Series.
Carter
would this glove be good for a 12 year old 4'9" josh
Height and weight really do not affect affect whether or not that a glove would fit. If this 12 year old has similar size hands to a regular adult through I think that there is a good chance that the Rawlings Heart of the Hide Salvador Perez Game Day Series (PROSP13GTB) Catcher's Mitt would fit your son.

About the Brand

Rawlings is a major manufacturer of competitive team sports equipment and apparel for baseball, basketball, and football, as well as licensed MLB, NFL, and NCAA retail products. Rawlings is a major supplier to professional, collegiate, interscholastic, and amateur organizations worldwide, including the Official Baseball Supplier to Major League Baseball.

The first real innovation in glove making occurred in 1912 when Rawlings Sporting Goods Company introduced the "Sure Catch" glove, which was "endorsed by leading players all over the country." The Sure Catch was a one-piece glove with sewn-in finger channels and looked better suited for a duck's foot than a man's hand. Catchers' mitts used at the time were large and bulky with a single leather thong passing for a web.

In 1920, Bill Doak, a journeyman pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, approached Rawlings with an idea for improving the baseball glove from a mere protective device to a genuine aid in fielding. The "Bill Doak" model was so revolutionary that it stayed in Rawlings' line until 1953. Its key feature was a multi-thong web laced into the first finger and thumb, which created for the first time in baseball's young life, a natural pocket.

In 1925, Rawlings unveiled a three-fingered fielder's glove, and ten years later improved the Bill Doak model with a two-piece leather web. At the same time, the "T" web became a rage for first basemen's mitts. The pocket underwent a pronounced change in 1941 when the Trapper Mitt, also known as the Claw, appeared. The "Deep Well" pocket was so unique that Rawlings quickly patented it. The design was improved in 1950 by adding a leather piece across the top. Another significant creation occurred in 1948 with the three-fingered Playmaker. A five-fingered fielder's model, with all fingers laced together, provided greater pocket control.

The six-fingered Trap-Eze evolved in the 1960's. In more recent years, Rawlings produced the Fastback design, which gives a glove a snugger fit, greater extension, and overall control. The Holdster is a slot through which a finger can be extended for additional protection from impacts on the pocket. Then, there is the Edge-U-Cated Heel with its extended U-shaped lacing and the Pro H Web and much-copied Basket Web.

Some of Rawlings's more recent glove innovations also include the unique Spin-Stopper design which reduces ball spin when the ball hits the glove, and the Cantilever glove design feature that provides a cushioned area between the hand and the glove's palm area. In all, Rawlings has produced and patented more functionally innovative glove features and designs than that of any other glove manufacturer. The result is that the modern baseball glove is much larger, more comfortable, better padded, and made to last far longer than its ancestors. It is not uncommon to see today's Major League players wearing the same Rawlings glove they wore during their college playing days. In fact, Rawlings is the #1 glove in the major leagues. Rawlings maintains about 65 models of baseball and softball mitts and gloves in its line. The prototypes of virtually all of them have been field-tested by professionals before entering a sporting goods dealer's inventory.
