Pros: Tremendous glove. High-quality leather. Breaks in easily. Forms very nice pocket.
Cons: None.

Pros: Just received this Rawlings Heart of the Hide pro taper in mid January, 2013 for my soon to be 8 year old son. It is an extremely high quality glove. Rawlings designed it right, with a wide open, fairly shallow, pocket. It should transfer glove to throw very quickly. I would think the 11 inch size will be perfect for average size kids up to age12 or so. Unfortunately, most parents buy their kids adult gloves that dwarf their hand and frame. The result is a glove that plays the kid instead of the kid playing the glove. In contrast, this glove looks appropriate on a youth player. The leather is breaking in fast and hopefully is thick enough that it doesn't break down too quickly. I'm impressed so far. I will review it again midway through the summer to see how it has held up. My son had a great glove before from another company, and is ecstatic and proud of this glove. He loves it.
Cons: No cons so far, but it's early. Yes, the glove was expensive. But that's not a con. You get what you pay for, and lower priced gloves are apples to this orange.

Pros: I bought this for my 8 year old and it's the best youth glove out there in this size. Very easy to break in, I do recommend the break in kit becasue it made it much easier to form a proper pocket. Perfect break points for an 8 year old, but he can grow into it too. I played college ball with a Mizuno Pro, and I like this glove better than mine.
Cons: Not a con becasue it's the highest priced youth glove on the market for a reason!

Pros: Just a quick update, two and a half months after we received this glove: I cannot say enough good things about it at this point. The glove is very well broken-in and my son can easily handle it. He will be 8 in June. He glove is not too heavy for him, but there are clearly many youth gloves out there that are much lighter than this. The difference is probably the quality of the leather. This Heart of the Hide Pro Taper has very substantial, but soft, leather. The good news is that even though it is well broken in, it is not broken down. The glove still has it's shape, which I hope keeps up. Again, it's just now April, and he hasn't been really sweating in it yet because we've always been inside or in cool temperatures. Very impressed and happy with the purchase. I will still do a final review mid-summer to see how the glove has held up at that point.
Cons: Still no cons.

Pros: I got this mitt in april once it got broken in it was awsome! I've had it for only 3 months and it's already so broken in!
Cons: Nothing!

Pros: Gave glove to my boy for his 11th birthday. He loves it. Its a Rawlings, what could be better? Good fit, durable, and perfect size for a infielder.
Cons: Its pricey, however, I have spent more for hockey skates that he outgrew in a year. He uses this glove for at least 3 years.

Pros: Excellent glove, i mean the best glove my son ever had, he love it!
Cons: Nothing

Pros: I love this glove! I chose to break it in myself, and after about a week of oiling it, and forming a pocket, the glove fits perfectly. The leather is super soft, and the pocket is really deep. I play between 4-5 games a week, and this glove has held up beautifully. I'm sold for life on the Rawlings Heart of The Hide line!!!
Cons: There's not a lot of padding in the palm, but for the advanced player, it's not a big issue.

Pros: Son - 9yrs old - Had Glove 3 months - The leather is of the highest quality. This is a glove that will last a long time. Not the lightest glove one the market, but my son likes the feel and after a month of using 4x per week - catches very well. Pocket, glove, and webbing hold shape and the dye and marking hold up exceptionally - so it looks great. This is not a first glove for most kids, but if your son/daughter have been playing for a couple of years - this is a great option.
Cons: I don't believe this glove is 75% broke in - I would say 50%. Took a month of break-in, which good gloves will do. If you need to use this glove now - I would go to a cheaper glove in the short term and then have a chance to break this one in - over the long term this will be a much better choice.

Pros: High Quality Glove, good size for my 9 year old. Fits his hand well. Would absolutely buy again - however -
Cons: This glove takes a while to break it. Even after purchasing the break-in kit, we needed a month. Don't buy if you need to use right away.
great glove Jeff Lebowski parent
Pros: perfect for middle infield. too many infielders are given gloves way too large. my 13 year old uses this and he is avg size. Great quality leather.

About the Brand
Rawlings is a major manufacturer of competitive team sports equipment and apparel for baseball, basketball, and football, as well as licensed MLB, NFL, and NCAA retail products. Rawlings is a major supplier to professional, collegiate, interscholastic, and amateur organizations worldwide, including the Official Baseball Supplier to Major League Baseball.
The first real innovation in glove making occurred in 1912 when Rawlings Sporting Goods Company introduced the "Sure Catch" glove, which was "endorsed by leading players all over the country." The Sure Catch was a one-piece glove with sewn-in finger channels and looked better suited for a duck's foot than a man's hand. Catchers' mitts used at the time were large and bulky with a single leather thong passing for a web.
In 1920, Bill Doak, a journeyman pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, approached Rawlings with an idea for improving the baseball glove from a mere protective device to a genuine aid in fielding. The "Bill Doak" model was so revolutionary that it stayed in Rawlings' line until 1953. Its key feature was a multi-thong web laced into the first finger and thumb, which created for the first time in baseball's young life, a natural pocket.
In 1925, Rawlings unveiled a three-fingered fielder's glove, and ten years later improved the Bill Doak model with a two-piece leather web. At the same time, the "T" web became a rage for first basemen's mitts. The pocket underwent a pronounced change in 1941 when the Trapper Mitt, also known as the Claw, appeared. The "Deep Well" pocket was so unique that Rawlings quickly patented it. The design was improved in 1950 by adding a leather piece across the top. Another significant creation occurred in 1948 with the three-fingered Playmaker. A five-fingered fielder's model, with all fingers laced together, provided greater pocket control.
The six-fingered Trap-Eze evolved in the 1960's. In more recent years, Rawlings produced the Fastback design, which gives a glove a snugger fit, greater extension, and overall control. The Holdster is a slot through which a finger can be extended for additional protection from impacts on the pocket. Then, there is the Edge-U-Cated Heel with its extended U-shaped lacing and the Pro H Web and much-copied Basket Web.
Some of Rawlings's more recent glove innovations also include the unique Spin-Stopper design which reduces ball spin when the ball hits the glove, and the Cantilever glove design feature that provides a cushioned area between the hand and the glove's palm area. In all, Rawlings has produced and patented more functionally innovative glove features and designs than that of any other glove manufacturer. The result is that the modern baseball glove is much larger, more comfortable, better padded, and made to last far longer than its ancestors. It is not uncommon to see today's Major League players wearing the same Rawlings glove they wore during their college playing days. In fact, Rawlings is the #1 glove in the major leagues. Rawlings maintains about 65 models of baseball and softball mitts and gloves in its line. The prototypes of virtually all of them have been field-tested by professionals before entering a sporting goods dealer's inventory.
