do you guys have these in stock yet? what do you think the pocket looks like for softball? how much lighter are they than full HOH mitts? thanks! jason
We will only show what we have in stock at the time. The sizing should be fine for softball use. The Pro Mesh series will be a little bit lighter than just the original Heart of Heart of the Hide.
Pete
i ASSUME THIS IS A BASEBALL MIT NOT SOFTBALL 89FASTPITCH
Thank you for your question. Yes this glove is a baseball mitt.
Nick
Can this glove be used for fast pitch softball? Pat
If the fast pitch player is comfortable with this glove they can absolutely use it for softball.
Shelbe
Is this a good choice for a twelve year old who is 5"2 and 105 pounds? baseballisbest
The average size first base mitt for a 12 year old is a 12 inch model. A 12.5 inch mitt may be just a little big right now, but I think he could definitely use it a grow in to it.
Tyler
I'm an 5' 10" adult with a normal sized hand...what size 1st base mitt should I be looking at? foundryfielder
For your size, the average size first base mitt would be a 12.5 or 12.75 inch model. Between those two sizes, it comes down to your personal preference. If you prefer a slightly larger mitt, go with a 12.75. If you prefer an average size mitt, go with a 12.5 model.
Tyler
Is the Rawlings Heart of the Hide or the Wilson A2000 better? jr 16
The Rawlings Heart of the Hide and the Wilson A2000 will both be lightweight very durable gloves, and the quality of the will be very similar.
Tom
This mitt is not listed on the rawlings web site, was it discontinued? How does this compare to the dual core? monkey man
As of 8/10/2012, the Rawlings Heart of the Hide Pro Mesh Series: PROFM19MX is not a discontinued model. It features the same quality leather as the Heart of the Hide Dual Core Series, but it does not feature the Dual Core Technology. The Dual Core Technology makes the Dual Core Series easier to break-in.
Tyler
What are the disadvantages of having a partially mesh glove? kdant11
Gloves that feature mesh material will be a little lighter in weight.
Tyler
Is this mitt harder to break in than the a2000? charlie
The Rawlings Heart of the Hide Pro Mesh Series, and the Wilson A2000 gloves will have very similar break-in periods. Both are high quality leather gloves, and will take one to three weeks to get the glove to fit your hand the best.
Noah
HOW DO YOU BREAK IN THIS GLOVE? WHAT IS THE BEST WAY? I HAVE THE GLOVOLIUM RAWLINGS ADVANCED FORMULA OIL. SHOULD I USE IT? MATEO #22
The Rawlings Heart of the Hide Pro Mesh Series: PROFM19MX First Base Mitt will feature a pro mesh backing. This will give the glove a lighter feel. I would concentrate on breaking in the palm and web of the glove. You can do this by playing lots of catch and applying a thin coat of the Glovolium. Also, checkout our JustBallGloves.com Glove Care Kit. It will provide everything necessary to help you through this process and shorten the break-in period.
Brandon
What are the differences in the PROFM20KB and this glove? Tony

Noah
Are the laces on this glove blue? mike14
The laces on the Rawlings Heart of the Hide Pro Mesh Series: PROFM19MX First Base Mitt will be all black.
Noah
Would a 13 inch be too big for my 14 year old or should I go with a 12.75"? He is about 5' 7". Shane
We do not recommend the Rawlings Heart of the Hide Pro Mesh Series: PROFM19MX First Base Mitt for his age. We recommend a 12.50" to a 12.75" glove. The Rawlings Heart of the Hide Solid Core Series: PROFBSC First Base Mitt would be a great choice.
Kara
My 15 year old son is 6'1" and about 195 pounds. He is trying out for first baseman. What size glove do you recommend? JP
Based on your son's age and position, we would recommend getting a 12.50'' first base mitt. The Rawlings Heart of the Hide Pro Mesh Series (PROFM19MX) First Base Mitt would probably be too large for your son.
Tori
If I use this glove as my regular fielding glove, would it get soft and floppy due to the mesh? Dante DeBenedetto
The Rawlings Heart of the Hide Pro Mesh Series (PROFM19MX) First Base Mitt will eventually get soft and floppy over time but the durability will be the same as any other Heart of the Hide.
Aaron
If i'm a 12 year old boy about 5'3 playing 1st everyday, what would be the proper size for a first base glove? Dante DeBenedetto
Based on your height and weight, we recommend a 12" first basemen's mitt. The Rawlings Heart of the Hide Pro Mesh Series (PROFM169MX) is a 13" pattern, so it may be a little large for you. For more information regarding sizing, check out our Glove Coach: http://www.justballgloves.com/glove-coach/

I am 6 feet tall and weigh 180 pounds. What size first base mitt should I use? mark
The size of mitt you should use would be less based on your size and more on your preference. The 13 inch pattern on the Rawlings Heart of the Hide Pro Mesh Series (PROFM19MX) would be an average size for a first base mitt for a player your age.
Patrick
I am 6 feet tall and 16 years old. What size first base mitt should I use? Is this glove good for high competitive play? mark
The size of mitt you should use would be less based on your size and more on your preference. The 13 inch pattern on the Rawlings Heart of the Hide Pro Mesh Series (PROFM19MX) would be an average size for a first base mitt for a player your age. The Heart of the Hide would be a nice option for all levels of competitive play.
Patrick
I am looking for a first base glove for senior slow pitch softball. I have a large hand and I'm looking for the largest glove available. Using a first base glove, I love it, but it is 40 years old and I need a replacement. I can't find one large enough. bj
For the most part, slow pitch specific first base mitts are not commonly made. Often players will use a large outfielders glove rather than a mitt or use a very large first base mitt like the Rawlings Heart of the Hide Pro Mesh Series (PROFM19MX) that has been broken in using softballs. Most slow pitch players cannot use a fastpitch model that is more intended for softball because the hand opening and wrist area are too small.
Patrick
I am 19 years old playing in a men's league. I am trying out for first base. I am pretty decent at the position but I never purchased a mitt before, I just used a teammates. I really like this style glove but I only see this exact one in a size 13 inch. Is that too big? I am about 5 foot 10 and 200 pounds. JP
The specific model of the Rawlings Heart of the Hide Pro Mesh Series (PROFM19MX) is designed as a 13 inch mitt only. This would be a fairly typical size for a first base mitt but some would prefer a smaller pattern. What would be best for you would be based less on your size and more on your personal preference.

About the Brand

Rawlings is a major manufacturer of competitive team sports equipment and apparel for baseball, basketball, and football, as well as licensed MLB, NFL, and NCAA retail products. Rawlings is a major supplier to professional, collegiate, interscholastic, and amateur organizations worldwide, including the Official Baseball Supplier to Major League Baseball.

The first real innovation in glove making occurred in 1912 when Rawlings Sporting Goods Company introduced the "Sure Catch" glove, which was "endorsed by leading players all over the country." The Sure Catch was a one-piece glove with sewn-in finger channels and looked better suited for a duck's foot than a man's hand. Catchers' mitts used at the time were large and bulky with a single leather thong passing for a web.

In 1920, Bill Doak, a journeyman pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, approached Rawlings with an idea for improving the baseball glove from a mere protective device to a genuine aid in fielding. The "Bill Doak" model was so revolutionary that it stayed in Rawlings' line until 1953. Its key feature was a multi-thong web laced into the first finger and thumb, which created for the first time in baseball's young life, a natural pocket.

In 1925, Rawlings unveiled a three-fingered fielder's glove, and ten years later improved the Bill Doak model with a two-piece leather web. At the same time, the "T" web became a rage for first basemen's mitts. The pocket underwent a pronounced change in 1941 when the Trapper Mitt, also known as the Claw, appeared. The "Deep Well" pocket was so unique that Rawlings quickly patented it. The design was improved in 1950 by adding a leather piece across the top. Another significant creation occurred in 1948 with the three-fingered Playmaker. A five-fingered fielder's model, with all fingers laced together, provided greater pocket control.

The six-fingered Trap-Eze evolved in the 1960's. In more recent years, Rawlings produced the Fastback design, which gives a glove a snugger fit, greater extension, and overall control. The Holdster is a slot through which a finger can be extended for additional protection from impacts on the pocket. Then, there is the Edge-U-Cated Heel with its extended U-shaped lacing and the Pro H Web and much-copied Basket Web.

Some of Rawlings's more recent glove innovations also include the unique Spin-Stopper design which reduces ball spin when the ball hits the glove, and the Cantilever glove design feature that provides a cushioned area between the hand and the glove's palm area. In all, Rawlings has produced and patented more functionally innovative glove features and designs than that of any other glove manufacturer. The result is that the modern baseball glove is much larger, more comfortable, better padded, and made to last far longer than its ancestors. It is not uncommon to see today's Major League players wearing the same Rawlings glove they wore during their college playing days. In fact, Rawlings is the #1 glove in the major leagues. Rawlings maintains about 65 models of baseball and softball mitts and gloves in its line. The prototypes of virtually all of them have been field-tested by professionals before entering a sporting goods dealer's inventory.
