Description

Each year since 1957, Rawlings has awarded the Gold Glove Award to MLB players to recognize superior individual fielding performances at each position. Now, players all over the country can use the same glove model that these players used to win their award! The Heart of the Hide Gold Glove Winners Series features high quality gloves that have defined the careers of those deemed "The Finest in the Field". Made from soft and supple Heart of the Hide steer hide leather, Rawlings has constructed these gloves to be some of the most comfortable gloves on the field without sacrificing an ounce of durability. As with all gloves of superior quality, Heart of the Hide gloves need some break-in. They leave the factory approximately 30% broken-in and leave the other 70% up to the player so that they can shape the glove just like they like it. This particular pattern is the game day mitt of catcher Matt Weiters and features a Two-Piece Closed Web and conventional open back. Rawlings: The Mark of a Pro! Free Shipping!

Pros: Amazing Leather.... Great Feel, and a deep pocket. The size seems to be able to fit a 15 year old, and is just flat out a great glove.

Cons: Takes a while to break in, but that's what makes it perfect.

Pros: This glove really is a great glove it has a nice deep pocket, feels great when you catch the ball and the pop is AMAZING... it sounds so good! I play a very high level of baseball and this glove should last me quite a while and for the price you can get it at it is an absolute steal.

Cons: The glove takes a long time to break in... I mean a long time which is to be expected with a HOH and the only reason I gave it a 4 is because i'm comparing it to its predecessor a Pro Preferred which had a much better break in time, the Pro Preferred really is the next level up, the HOH lining is no where near as comfortable and is very hard/coarse, the leather is a lot stiffer not harder but stiffer if that makes sense and the laces are pretty poor quality they are very thick and soft where the PP has much better quality laces. But all in all this is a great glove and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to get a more affordable catchers glove.

Pros: by far the best catchers glove I've seen on the market today. Has a nice deep pocket and great feel. Also easy to catch in for player 13+

Cons: takes about 4 or 5 months to break in but well worth the wait. Plus any catchers glove takes a good while to break in.

The best way to break-in the Rawlings Heart of the Hide Gold Glove Winners Series: PROCM43JT Catcher's Mitt would be to apply a light coat of glove oil and play a lot of catch. I am used to a 32.5' mitt, yet wouldnt mind a slightly larger glove. Will the 34' model feel much larger in the hand? Late Taing
The 34" pattern size of the Rawlings Heart of the Hide Matt Weiters Gold Glove Winners Series: PROCM43JT Catcher's Mitt will offer a similar fit to a 32.50" adult catcher's mitt. This mitt will likely fit a little looser on your hand, but the pattern size of a mitt/glove does not affect the fit much. The pattern size is a measurement of the circumference of the pocket, so the 34" model will give you slightly more catching surface.
Mac

About the Brand

Rawlings is a major manufacturer of competitive team sports equipment and apparel for baseball, basketball, and football, as well as licensed MLB, NFL, and NCAA retail products. Rawlings is a major supplier to professional, collegiate, interscholastic, and amateur organizations worldwide, including the Official Baseball Supplier to Major League Baseball.

The first real innovation in glove making occurred in 1912 when Rawlings Sporting Goods Company introduced the "Sure Catch" glove, which was "endorsed by leading players all over the country." The Sure Catch was a one-piece glove with sewn-in finger channels and looked better suited for a duck's foot than a man's hand. Catchers' mitts used at the time were large and bulky with a single leather thong passing for a web.

In 1920, Bill Doak, a journeyman pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, approached Rawlings with an idea for improving the baseball glove from a mere protective device to a genuine aid in fielding. The "Bill Doak" model was so revolutionary that it stayed in Rawlings' line until 1953. Its key feature was a multi-thong web laced into the first finger and thumb, which created for the first time in baseball's young life, a natural pocket.

In 1925, Rawlings unveiled a three-fingered fielder's glove, and ten years later improved the Bill Doak model with a two-piece leather web. At the same time, the "T" web became a rage for first basemen's mitts. The pocket underwent a pronounced change in 1941 when the Trapper Mitt, also known as the Claw, appeared. The "Deep Well" pocket was so unique that Rawlings quickly patented it. The design was improved in 1950 by adding a leather piece across the top. Another significant creation occurred in 1948 with the three-fingered Playmaker. A five-fingered fielder's model, with all fingers laced together, provided greater pocket control.

The six-fingered Trap-Eze evolved in the 1960's. In more recent years, Rawlings produced the Fastback design, which gives a glove a snugger fit, greater extension, and overall control. The Holdster is a slot through which a finger can be extended for additional protection from impacts on the pocket. Then, there is the Edge-U-Cated Heel with its extended U-shaped lacing and the Pro H Web and much-copied Basket Web.

Some of Rawlings's more recent glove innovations also include the unique Spin-Stopper design which reduces ball spin when the ball hits the glove, and the Cantilever glove design feature that provides a cushioned area between the hand and the glove's palm area. In all, Rawlings has produced and patented more functionally innovative glove features and designs than that of any other glove manufacturer. The result is that the modern baseball glove is much larger, more comfortable, better padded, and made to last far longer than its ancestors. It is not uncommon to see today's Major League players wearing the same Rawlings glove they wore during their college playing days. In fact, Rawlings is the #1 glove in the major leagues. Rawlings maintains about 65 models of baseball and softball mitts and gloves in its line. The prototypes of virtually all of them have been field-tested by professionals before entering a sporting goods dealer's inventory.
