Pros: Stays open ready to catch ball. Like extra sting protection provided by the Holdster. Not an easy "break in". But that's OK!

Cons: Extra large pocket for baseball. Love the glove! Reminds of Rawlings gloves when I was a kid, only much better. Oh that's not a con.

Not a fan Steve coach

Pros: it is a good glove. sturdy construction and all that

Cons: my hand was swimming in this glove. definitely for a large hand. the adjustable fast back barely tightened the glove. it comes very stiff so expect a long break in period. the flove never felt like it wanted to do what my hand was telling it to. kinda a shame but i returned it for something cheaper and smaller

Pros: Great Glove, quality is top notch. Had my Pro Preffered for 10+ years without any kind of condition. I expect this one to last much longer after being taken care of. Price was the best on the market. Love Rawlings, won't choose another brand.

Cons: Very stiff out of the box so it's still in break in period.

What is the difference between the Rawlings Game Day Series Heart of the Hide and the Rawlings Gamer Series outfields glove with the same trapeze webbing? Kevin
The Rawlings Heart of the Hide Game Day Series: PRO601JB uses a higher quality of leather than the Rawlings Gamer Series: G601B for better durability.
Kara
Will the fact that this glove has a softer feel right out of the wrapper sacrifice any durability? AdamAmigo
The softer feel should not sacrifice too much durability. The stiffer the glove is out of the box, generally the longer it will offer that structure. But the Rawlings Heart of the Hide Game Day Series: (PRO601JB) is still a very durable glove.
Mac
Could this glove be used for a slow pitch softball outfielder? If not, is there another Rawlings trapeze model that would be better suited? Joe
The Rawlings Heart of the Hide Game Day Series (PRO601JB) would be a good size and web type for outfield play in slow pitch softball.
Patrick
I have a Mizuno Pro outfield glove right now. I found that it is very soft, and is continuing to get softer. Is it okay for me to use it pretty much everyday at a high level? dannybaseball
Sometimes gloves such as the Mizuno Classic Pro Soft Series: (GCP79S) will incorporate a softer type of leather. This is not necessarily going to compromise your performance. However, if it does not feel comfortable, or is retaining its shape, this could potentially cause problems. Some players do prefer a softer leather even at a higher level of play, it will ultimately come down to what feels best for you.
Merritt
What's the difference between this glove and the Rawlings ProTB24B? Johnny Baseball
The Rawlings Heart of the Hide Game Day Series (PRO601JB) is the Austin Jackson model and will be more game ready than the Rawlings Heart of the Hide Series (PROTB24B) which is discontinued. The other specs are similar.
Damon
Would this be a good glove for a 14u elite player that plays mostly outfield but some infield? TTC BASEBALL 31
The Rawlings Heart of the Hide Game Day Series (PRO601JB) would be a good glove for an outfielder at that level of play. It may be a bit long for infield play but could still be usable.
Patrick

The Rawlings Heart of the Hide Game Day Series (PRO601JB) is designed with the pinky and index finger each having their own individual slot.

The Rawlings Heart of the Hide Game Day Series (PRO601JB) is a pretty high end glove and it holds it shape very well even after it is broken in.
Jason
What are the advantages of the H webbing versus the trapeze? baseball
There isn't necessarily an advantage of having an H-web over a trapeze web when playing the OF. It all comes down to personal preference. The Rawlings Heart of the Hide Game Day Series: PRO601JB would be a more common design for an OF as these players prefer the look of the trapeze webbing.

About the Brand

Rawlings is a major manufacturer of competitive team sports equipment and apparel for baseball, basketball, and football, as well as licensed MLB, NFL, and NCAA retail products. Rawlings is a major supplier to professional, collegiate, interscholastic, and amateur organizations worldwide, including the Official Baseball Supplier to Major League Baseball.

The first real innovation in glove making occurred in 1912 when Rawlings Sporting Goods Company introduced the "Sure Catch" glove, which was "endorsed by leading players all over the country." The Sure Catch was a one-piece glove with sewn-in finger channels and looked better suited for a duck's foot than a man's hand. Catchers' mitts used at the time were large and bulky with a single leather thong passing for a web.

In 1920, Bill Doak, a journeyman pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, approached Rawlings with an idea for improving the baseball glove from a mere protective device to a genuine aid in fielding. The "Bill Doak" model was so revolutionary that it stayed in Rawlings' line until 1953. Its key feature was a multi-thong web laced into the first finger and thumb, which created for the first time in baseball's young life, a natural pocket.

In 1925, Rawlings unveiled a three-fingered fielder's glove, and ten years later improved the Bill Doak model with a two-piece leather web. At the same time, the "T" web became a rage for first basemen's mitts. The pocket underwent a pronounced change in 1941 when the Trapper Mitt, also known as the Claw, appeared. The "Deep Well" pocket was so unique that Rawlings quickly patented it. The design was improved in 1950 by adding a leather piece across the top. Another significant creation occurred in 1948 with the three-fingered Playmaker. A five-fingered fielder's model, with all fingers laced together, provided greater pocket control.

The six-fingered Trap-Eze evolved in the 1960's. In more recent years, Rawlings produced the Fastback design, which gives a glove a snugger fit, greater extension, and overall control. The Holdster is a slot through which a finger can be extended for additional protection from impacts on the pocket. Then, there is the Edge-U-Cated Heel with its extended U-shaped lacing and the Pro H Web and much-copied Basket Web.

Some of Rawlings's more recent glove innovations also include the unique Spin-Stopper design which reduces ball spin when the ball hits the glove, and the Cantilever glove design feature that provides a cushioned area between the hand and the glove's palm area. In all, Rawlings has produced and patented more functionally innovative glove features and designs than that of any other glove manufacturer. The result is that the modern baseball glove is much larger, more comfortable, better padded, and made to last far longer than its ancestors. It is not uncommon to see today's Major League players wearing the same Rawlings glove they wore during their college playing days. In fact, Rawlings is the #1 glove in the major leagues. Rawlings maintains about 65 models of baseball and softball mitts and gloves in its line. The prototypes of virtually all of them have been field-tested by professionals before entering a sporting goods dealer's inventory.
