Description

For over 125 years, Rawlings has consistently created only the highest-quality and most reliable game-day glove models for the best in baseball. The new Heart of the Hide Dual Core Series is no exception. As the name suggests, Heart of the Hide Leather is taken only from the center portion of a hide. That prime cut steerhide leather is selected from the top 5% of all of Rawlings' steer hides and is generally thicker, resulting in a firm glove that is rugged but easier to shape. These gloves feature full grain leather binding and Tennessee Tanning leather laces. They also have a deer-tanned cowhide palm and finger back linings for strength, comfort and durability. Dual Core Technology is a key feature of this Series and is strategically placed within the inner palm and lining of the glove. During the catch, Dual Core Technology causes the inner palm to adjust to the shape of the outer palm; efficiently absorbing impact and protecting the player's hand from sting. Break-in time is also reduced as position-specific break points in the glove allow the leather to close naturally. Durability, premium feel, and functionality are highlights of the Heart of the Hide Dual Core Series. Rawlings: The Mark of a Pro. It's a god mitt, but... Sean parent

Pros: Feels nice, easy break in, looks pretty.

Cons: I don't know if it's just mine, but the webbing broke when fielding a chopper. The laces were fine but the piece of leather holding the laces ripped.

Great Glove phenombaseball00 player

Pros: This glove arrived today and it is stiff, but can be game ready very soon.Another thing I liked is that the index finger pad is in the right position that it should be in. Most of the time I find that it is where your finger should be straight up and not a little slanted. Love it so far.

Cons: The leather looks live it could show marks on it very easily, but it isn't a huge problem.

Would this size be good for a 14 year old? c-smooth
The 12.5 inch pattern on the Rawlings Heart Of The Hide Dual Core Series (PROFM18DCG) should work well for a player of that age.
Patrick
I am 12, 5'6" and I play first base everyday. What type of glove and size should I use? jon scoops
As a first baseman it will be beneficial to use a first base mitt. Glove size ultimately comes down to personal preference, but typically a player that is your age will use a 12" or 12.25" pattern. The Rawlings Heart Of The Hide Dual Core Series (PROFM18DCG) First Base Mitt features a 12.50" pattern and will work for you, but it might be big for some players your age.
Jason
Will it be harder to scoop with this? I use a 13 inch now and I don't want to throw myself off? ScoopGameOn10000%
The Rawlings Heart Of The Hide Dual Core Series (PROFM18DCG) is great for picking and scooping at 1st base. If you are used to a 13 inch model, it may be a bit of an adjustment but should be easy to adjust to.
Patrick
How long does it take to break in? lake
There is no set time frame for breaking in the Rawlings Heart Of The Hide Dual Core Series: PROFM18DCG First Base Mitt. That all depends on how often you work with the mitt and how you care for it. It will likely require at least 2 weeks for the glove to be broken in, if not more.
Marcus
Can you explain the difference between the PRODCTJBT and the PROFM18DCG? Both are first base mitts. One is 13.00 inches and the other is 12.50 but there must be other differences. navakahn
There are quite a few differences between the Rawlings Heart Of The Hide Dual Core Series: PROFM18DCG First Base Mitt and the PRODCTJBT. First off, the PROFM18DCG will arrive more game ready as it features a 60% factory break-in. Secondly, the PROFM18DCG First Base Mitt features the Dual Core Technology which offers position-specific breaks and enables natural closure while the PRODCTJBT will not.

Would I use regular leather conditioner on this glove even though it is not leather Savage
I would recommend using either glove oil or glove cream on this model. The Rawlings Heart of the Hide Dual Core Series PROFM18DCG uses U.S. Steerhide Leather.

About the Brand

Rawlings is a major manufacturer of competitive team sports equipment and apparel for baseball, basketball, and football, as well as licensed MLB, NFL, and NCAA retail products. Rawlings is a major supplier to professional, collegiate, interscholastic, and amateur organizations worldwide, including the Official Baseball Supplier to Major League Baseball.

The first real innovation in glove making occurred in 1912 when Rawlings Sporting Goods Company introduced the "Sure Catch" glove, which was "endorsed by leading players all over the country." The Sure Catch was a one-piece glove with sewn-in finger channels and looked better suited for a duck's foot than a man's hand. Catchers' mitts used at the time were large and bulky with a single leather thong passing for a web.

In 1920, Bill Doak, a journeyman pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, approached Rawlings with an idea for improving the baseball glove from a mere protective device to a genuine aid in fielding. The "Bill Doak" model was so revolutionary that it stayed in Rawlings' line until 1953. Its key feature was a multi-thong web laced into the first finger and thumb, which created for the first time in baseball's young life, a natural pocket.

In 1925, Rawlings unveiled a three-fingered fielder's glove, and ten years later improved the Bill Doak model with a two-piece leather web. At the same time, the "T" web became a rage for first basemen's mitts. The pocket underwent a pronounced change in 1941 when the Trapper Mitt, also known as the Claw, appeared. The "Deep Well" pocket was so unique that Rawlings quickly patented it. The design was improved in 1950 by adding a leather piece across the top. Another significant creation occurred in 1948 with the three-fingered Playmaker. A five-fingered fielder's model, with all fingers laced together, provided greater pocket control.

The six-fingered Trap-Eze evolved in the 1960's. In more recent years, Rawlings produced the Fastback design, which gives a glove a snugger fit, greater extension, and overall control. The Holdster is a slot through which a finger can be extended for additional protection from impacts on the pocket. Then, there is the Edge-U-Cated Heel with its extended U-shaped lacing and the Pro H Web and much-copied Basket Web.

Some of Rawlings's more recent glove innovations also include the unique Spin-Stopper design which reduces ball spin when the ball hits the glove, and the Cantilever glove design feature that provides a cushioned area between the hand and the glove's palm area. In all, Rawlings has produced and patented more functionally innovative glove features and designs than that of any other glove manufacturer. The result is that the modern baseball glove is much larger, more comfortable, better padded, and made to last far longer than its ancestors. It is not uncommon to see today's Major League players wearing the same Rawlings glove they wore during their college playing days. In fact, Rawlings is the #1 glove in the major leagues. Rawlings maintains about 65 models of baseball and softball mitts and gloves in its line. The prototypes of virtually all of them have been field-tested by professionals before entering a sporting goods dealer's inventory.
