Pros: The most awesome glove I've ever used. I play 1B with this glove and never drop a ball. Well padded, perfect leather, durable, holds a perfect shape. Best glove for the money by far.

Cons: I cannot find anything wrong with this glove besides the break in time. It will take several practices to break in.

Pros: This is absolutely and by far the best glove I've ever used. The craftmanship, the quality, the performance, all are unsurpassed...I'm very surprised I don't see this manufacturer in the MLB more often! You will be extremely satisfied with this product! This will prove to be the last glove I ever use...awesome...love it!...

Cons: It's true the break-in time is longer for this glove but extremely worth the effort and the money spent...

Pros: I have a version of this glove made with Kangaroo leather on the back. It is a beautiful glove and extremely well made. Plays wonderfully. You never have to worry about a hard-hit ball bending the glove back. I love it when people see it. They've never heard of it but are immediately impressed. I love that it is American made.

Cons: No matter how many times you read how stiff this glove is, it will shock you when you pull it out of the box. Take this as a sign of quality. You get the feeling that it is all but indestructible. One issue: My hand gets rather sweaty. If I had to do again, I would choose a pattern with an open back. But it would be a Nokona.

Pros: There is certainly a hand-made feel with Nokona. This is the glove I used as a player, and now as a coach it does me good to see my players wearing and taking pride in it. And that's why I still use Nokona. It's simply a quality product, and you can tell from the first moment you hold it.

Cons: With this high grade leather it's going to be a battle to break in. But it's worth the love, affection and time to get it there.

Pros: the glove is amazing, i use it for baseball and softball. i coach and the kids who borrow it want to know where i got it from.

Cons: the glove takes sometime to break in but when it is broken in it is amazing. there isnt enough padding in the palm area. be careful when using the break in mallet it will bruise your hand.

Pros: To say this glove is stiff out of the box is an understatement. With some Nokona glove conditioner worked in by hand, a ball in the pocket, some rubber bands and a mallet, this glove is ready to go in a week.

Cons: Have not found any yet.

Pros: Great quality leather. Nice stamping and well oiled out of the plastic. Not quite broken in yet after 1 week. Will take some TLC to break inn you way. best fitting glove to my hand I have ever had. Would reccomend to anyone that wants a glove to pass down to you rkids one day and play with for a long time!

Cons: If you don't know how to properly break in a glove after watching the video here. Please take to your local professional shop and have them help you. Nokona reccomends their conditioning oil not sold on this website. FYI... DO NOT OVER OIL

Pros: Durable as all get out. Great feel and phenomenal control. I play in a couple of leagues and this is my gamer for all of them. It took some real work to break in, but once you get it right, it feels like part of your body. Easily the most natural feeling glove I've ever played with. Prior to Nokona I've have an A2K and HOTH, this blows them both away. I'm in my fourth year with it and the pocket and heel are soft and responsive but the bridge and hinge are firm.

Cons: Wee bit heavy Break in / Break in / Break in I picked it up late season and played catch all winter and I STILL had to make trips to the batting cage to catch balls off a machine before the season started. Stay away from glove treatments. I called them and they said it's treated at the factory and they recommend you break it in the old fashioned way or risk wearing out the parts that should be stiff. Treat it with Nokona glove oil once a year and you should be OK.

Love The Game

Pros: When you hold this glove you can feel the quality and craftsmanship. Once broken in the glove closes itself when hit in the pocket. It is sturdy yet comfortable and hinges in the right spot. You could shoot a ball out of a cannon and its not getting through this glove. MADE IN AMERICA and it shows the love this company puts into every glove.

Cons: None! no reason to even have this "con" text box for this glove.

Pros: Excellent quality leather and workmanship. American Made.

Cons: This thing is huge, and not in a good way. The finger holes and palm are rediculously large, and was only usable with two fingers in the pinky for me. Unless you have Paul Bunyan sized hands, this thing will be like a jumbo sized display model. All these models utilize felt for joint piping, and will become floppy over time.

Best glove around Softball Mom parent

Pros: I bought this for my 16-year-old that pitches Fastpitch softball. This is an outstanding glove that is definitely high quality.

Cons: This glove will take a while to break in but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Also the glove is a little heavier than most.

I haven't even used the glove in a game yet Jason Player

Pros: This glove is the best made glove I have ever put on my hand by far! I read a lot of reviews. The only negative I could find was the break in time. Well I broke it in in 2 days. A lot of oil, a wrap, a plastic bag, a ball, and a good mallet go a long way.

Cons: None

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Nokona Walnut 13" Slow Pitch Softball Glove: WS-1300? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

will it fit a large male hand? mike
Yes. This glove has plenty of room and has an adjustable wrist strap. You shouldn't have a problem with it.
JH
besides price and Kangaroo back what is the difference between the walnut and Buckaroo series? looks like the same glove kmh
It comes down to the quality of the leather. Kangaroo leather is a high quality, lightweight, and durable leather.
JH
besides price and Kangaroo back what is the difference between the walnut and Buckaroo series? And which one would you prefer if you had the option? Jaybird
The gloves in Nokona's Buckaroo Series will be lighter in weight than the Walnut Series. The Kangaroo leather has a tensile strength 2 to 3 times greater than traditional cowhide leather. Both will display similar durability, but the Walnut Series will be a little stiffer than the Buckaroo.
JH
IS THIS GLOVE INFIELD, OUTFIELD OR A UTILITY GLOVE OR ANY COMBINATION OF THE ABOVE? nIC
This glove is an outfielders model.
Shelbe
For a slow-pitch softball league, would this be the right size for 3B? My current glove is a wilson a2000 xlc (it's pretty old, but just starting to get floppy), but I played both OF & SS with that one. I tried the 12" on in a store, that was way too small, their next size up was the 13.5. Tony
Absolutely. A 13 inch glove is perfect for 3rd base in slow pitch softball in my opinion. Nokona's last a long time too.
Tyler
Have you ever seen on this model, a "pp" emblem in the palm, just about 2 o'clock from the indian emblem? Does it stand for anything? Pro Player model....? jon
I've never seen a glove in Nokona's Classic Walnut Series with that "PP" on it. However, I'm pretty sure I know what it stands for. On some Nokona gloves (mostly their Bloodline Series) they use their patented Proprietary Prime leather. This is just a high quality leather used as the basis for some of their higher quality gloves. I wish I had a definite answer, but I think this may be it.
Tyler
The nokona web site has a picture of this model glove (WS1300C) with a velcro strap and yet your web site has the glove shown with out an adjustable velcro wrist strap. So which one do you guys sell? The one with a velcro strap or the one pictured with a leather lace strap? Thanks and I will place my order as soon as this is made clear. Dan
The Nokona Walnut Softball Series: WS1300C has a leather lace strap.
Kara
I am looking to purchase a Nokona glove for my father-n-law. He wears a x-large batting glove. Will this glove adjust to fit his large hand? Doug
The Nokona Walnut Softball Series: WS1300C has ample room in the hand area and finger stalls. He shouldn't have a problem fitting in to it.
Tyler
Is this glove for a guy and not a girl? My 13 year old daughter plays fastpitch softball. Would this glove be okay for her? busymom
The Nokona Walnut Softball Series: WS1300C is a male softball glove. We recommend the Nokona Buckaroo Black Fastpitch Series: BF1300CBLK or the Nokona Buffalo Combo Fastpitch Series: BCF1300C for your daughter.
Kara
What is the physical difference between this glove and the 13" Buckaroo Black model, in terms of pocket size? Frank
The Nokona Walnut Softball Series: WS1300C and the Buckaroo black model are going to have very similar sized pockets. The hand stalls in the Nokona Walnut will be bigger than the Buckaroo glove.
Noah
Needing to purchase a ladies slow pitch softball glove. I Can't find anywhere to try on this glove. I'm concerned the hand will be too big because the description says "sized for a man's hand". Is there anything for a lady? As far as slow pitch softball, this is about the only choice I can find. Pam
The Nokona Walnut Softball Series: WS1300C might be a little too big for a womens hand. You might look at the Nokona Buckaroo Black Fastpitch Series: BF1300CBLK or the Nokona Buffalo Combo Fastpitch Series: BCF1300C.
John
Debating between this and the 12.5" model with kangaroo. I have a small hand size, does that matter? This is for softball and I was thinking bigger is better? Thanks for the help. John
If you are an infielder, the 13.00" Nokona Walnut Softball Series: WS1300C would be a great choice. The 12.50" kangaroo glove is a fastpitch glove and designed for a female hand. Any type of leather can be used for a player with a large or small hand.
Kara
Is this glove okay for infield play is there enough bend in the glove with a DEEP pocket? I hate when the pocket is shallow and doesn't swallow the ball. Abe
The Nokona Walnut Softball Series: WS1300C will be very stiff and will require a break-in period. Once it is broken-in, it should have bend for an infielder.
Kara
My 10 year old daughter plays infield in fastpitch softball. What Nokona glove would you recommend. An 11.25"? big Dawg
Instead of the Nokona Walnut Softball Series: WS1300C, which is 13" in size. I would go with the smaller size of the Nokona Banana Tan Fastpitch Series: BTF-1200. An 11.50" is best recommended, but the 12" would be comfortable for her also.
Brandon
Is this glove available in the banana tan leather? Jimbo
The Nokona Walnut Softball Series (WS1300C) is not available in the banana tan leather. We only have a fastpitch model available at this time.
Kar
I play 3rd base in a slow pitch league. Which Nokona 13.00" glove do you guys recommend? Bobby Glove
The Nokona Walnut Softball Series (WS1300C) is a great option. It uses high quality leather and will be very durable.
Kara
I play slow pitch, and I have big hands. Is the (WS1300) the best glove for me? Mike
The Nokona Walnut Softball Series: (WS1300C) would be an excellent glove for multiple positions. The classic walnut leather, and adjustable wrist strap provides comfort, closure, and versatility that many gloves simply can't compete with. The pinky and thumb loops inside also provide players with a little bit better control. Due to these features, I would highly recommend this model.
Merritt
I play Fastpitch softball and need a 13" glove because I have rather big hands and I play outfield and first base. I would like a glove that I can use at each position. Would this be a good fit? Skimo1130
The Nokona Walnut Softball Series: (WS1300C) would be an excellent glove for multiple positions. This glove is made from a lightweight yet sturdy Walnut Tanned Leather, features basket webbing and a adjustable wrist strap. Due to these features, I would highly recommend this model.
Ryan
What is the difference between the fastpitch gloves and softball gloves versus the adult baseball gloves? Is the quality of leather the same? I was told that the fastpitch was stronger. Is this true? jeremy
All the gloves in Nokona's Walnut series will all be of similar quality. The softball series like the Nokona Walnut Softball Series (WS1300C) use the same grade and quality of leather as the baseball models like the Nokona Classic Walnut Series (WB-1275M).
Patrick
What is the best way to break this glove in? My model is WS-1300. Some say to take it to Dick's and have it steamed? Pat Portland Or
There are many ways to break in the Nokona Walnut Softball Series: WS1300C. Steaming a glove will help reduce the break-in period but can also reduce the durability of the glove. We would recommend looking at the following: http://www.justballgloves.com/glove-resource-guide/
Cameron
My daughter has a small hand and is looking at the Nokona S2-1200. I question if it is a good fit because it says baseball. I see a softball glove that is similar in the X2-V1200H, which she doesn't like as much. But would it be a better fit? Staci R Osborn
Yes. Baseball gloves are designed for a male's hand size, while softball gloves are designed to fit a female's hand size, so a fastpitch softball glove would fit her better.
Kyle J.
Does this glove have a leather Velcro hand strap? Cardith
The Nokona Walnut Softball Glove: WS-1300C does not feature a velcro wrist strap but does feature an adjustable wrist strap design.
Cameron
I am reading the WS-1300 is 750g and cowhide leather. Is that weight correct? The Buckaroo X2-1300 is kangaroo leather and 770g. So it weighs more than the WS-1300. Is that correct? If the gloves are the same size and the kangaroo leather is supposedly lighter, why does it weigh more? Thanks. Jamo7
Nokona does mention that the Nokona Walnut 13" Slow Pitch Softball Glove: WS-1300 comes in around 740 g whereas the Nokona X2 Buckaroo 13" Slow Pitch Softball Glove: X2-1300 features a weight around 770 g.

About the Brand

Joe Phillips writes about his visit to Nokona. It was like sitting in at the plantation party in Gone with the Wind or maybe gazing from the grandstand at the “Field of Dreams” while the Black Sox players tried to work out their idled muscle kinks. And, I was gently reminded by the lines in that movie while I dug into a delicious plate of North Texas barbecue: “threshing crews eating at outdoor tables. It continually reminds us of what once was, like an Indian-head penny in a handful of new coins. . . You talk a good dream.” And here I was. . . graciously invited into this magical and charming “Field of Glove-Making Dreams” in former Comanche Indian land at Nocona, Texas. It was a warm August evening, basked in a golden harvest moon, while friends and the Nokona family paid its kindly southern regards to two of their own and two of America’s finest but relatively obscure glove makers, Bobby Storey and Elvin Ray “Ab” Lemons. You see, the pair had just completed fifty years of time-honored employment with Nocona Athletic Goods, the last of the all-American made ball glove company's. The occasion brought echoes of past successes and human contentment, but in Nocona today you still experience much the same American texture of yesterday and perhaps a glimpse into tomorrow as well.

The two stately gentlemen were being honored in a way that could have taken place in the same manner when they first reported for full-time work at Nokona, in 1952, or back even earlier, in 1933 when the company started making sports equipment. During a brief and informal presentation at the celebration, Nokona’s new sales manager called the two glove makers “Legends - because that’s what their ball gloves stood for, American know-how and pride taken in a best-made product.”

A man of few words but a marveled craftsman who could literally conjure a sows ear into a playable baseball mitt, Mr. Lemons got up and fondly recalled the several men he worked with through his half-century and of the training that had been passed along to him from his old bosses.

His counter part and just as talented, Bobby Storey, had filled in at just about every job at Nokona. Bobby, the son of the sporting goods founder, R.E. “Bob” Storey had most recently served as president and now chairman of the board of Nokona. Though past retirement age like Mr. Lemons, he’s now serving at one of his favorite roles, that of ball glove designer.

At a time for employment in this country when five years is considered a long tenure with the same company, Ab and Bobby are not even the first to complete a half-century journey with Nocona Athletics. The now deceased Jewell Brickey, hit that milestone in 1993, after joining the company during World War II. That’s the kind of devotion that employees forge into this glove-making outfit. A devoted and sustained tenure here is not rare. Last year the company advertising, displayed along with Storey and Lemons, three other employees who had garnered 40 years with Nokona, Warren Clary, Bud Meekins, and Melvin Weedin.“

I don’t have to tell you that the one constant through all the years has been baseball”, wrote W.P. Kinsella. And the most constant of ball glove makers has been Nokona, and the men and women there who keep alive the tradition of American craftsmanship of ball glove making. The spirit of glove-making is still alive and well in Nocona, Texas.
