Pros: This is a high end glove! The leather is very high quality! This glove is the same quality as the $300 rawlings gloves on the market. It is not one of those cheap pre broken in gloves. The day I received this glove in the mail, I brought it to Johnny Macs and had them break it in with the Mizuno Glove Steamer. It worked OK. It is a good way to start to break in a high end glove. It wont fully break it in! That takes physical work and time!!! I oiled it and caught about a thousand balls with it before it was 100% broke in. NOW IT IS AWESOME!!!!!!! This gloves craftmanship is absolutly professional. It takes alot of time and work to break in (just like any high end glove!), but when it is broke in, it feels and plays AWESOME!!! The feel of a broken in high end glove is great! Dont waste your money on a cheap glove. Spend the extra cash and get this glove!

Cons: ZERO complaints! Just be patient and break it in properly! The out come is worth it!!!!!!!

Pros: Amazing glove! It is a high end ball glove, and takes a bit to break in, but it's not bad at all. Just throw a ball in it every day, and work it everyday and in a week or so this glove will be perfect for your hand. I love the throwback pre-oiled leather, and the contrasting leathers make this glove look top notch. I use this in Denver NABA 18+ AAA league, and all my teammates want this glove now. I always find myself going back to Mizuno gloves after trying out other brands (i.e. Nokona, Wilson, Zett, Nike, Rawlings, etc). Mizuno hands down makes the best, most durable, and best feeling gloves on the market. Just get some Nokona NLTP glove oil for this to protect it from sun exposure, mildew from moisture and sweat, and for just general cleaning of the glove. You will NOT be disappointed if you buy this Mizuno glove.

Cons: None and I don't expect to ever find a con. I love it and it's just the perfect size for playing outfield.

Pros: Made with thick, high quality, durable leather. Top-notch workmanship which typifies Mizuno. Formed a very nice pocket after it was broken in. Feels like it will last forever.

Cons: A bit heavy and took awhile to break-in.

Pros: Comfortable, fits well. 13 yr old loves the fit and comfort of this glove. Tried 5 others, but he felt this was the best of the group. Works in quickly.

Pros: Great for slowpitch 2B/SS/3B. It has a deep enough pocket for a softball yet shallow enough that you can easily flip it out on a toss. It's not going to gobble the ball up or anything, so if you're looking for a deeper pocket get the GCP80S - it has a slightly deeper pocket than the 79S. I had a really difficult time choosing between the two (which were finalists after looking at about 10 gloves from JustBallGloves), and I almost kept the 80S along with the 79S. You can't go wrong with this glove and yes, it's already broken in for you.

Cons: It's a little on the heavier side since it's been oiled at the factory. It doesn't bother me a bit because I like a more traditional feel, but if weight is a concern at all, I highly recommend the GGE71. I almost decided on that one (it has gorgeous kip leather, which is a little lighter), but I wasn't a huge fan of the Ichiro/trap.

Pros: Feels great, only used a few times so far. I'm 6'2" 204 - perfect hand size for me - an outfield baseball or tweener for softball. Seems like it will be relatively easy to break-in. No regrets. Staff at BGW kept picking this glove over several others I was considering in online chats. No regrets!

Cons: None.

Pros: Great feel Good leather Easy Break in I would recommend getting the glove kit, it really helps. This was game ready 1-2 weeks after I got it because of the kit. Use glove oil liberally.

Cons: It runs a little shorter than 12.75, it feels more like a 12.25 but that hasn't stopped me Also fits for kind of a smaller hand (I have huge hands).

Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Mizuno Classic Pro Soft Series: GCP79S? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

I saw a GCP79SRG and it's label said 12.75 but seem very small. I compared to an old mizuno 13" and it was easily 3" smaller. What is the difference between S and SRG? Is mizuno making the gloves smaller now? James
The "RG" is just a code used at the end of the model number below the UPC code to distinguish that the glove is for a right hand thrower. Mizuno's Pro Soft Series gloves do tend to run a little small compared to other gloves of the same size.
John
I'm an aging Men's Senior Baseball League player. What's the break-in time? Emroy
The break-in time on this glove is going to vary depending on how much you are playing with it. You are looking at about a month at the longest for a break-in period. We also have our glove care kit that comes with a mallet that would help speed this process up.
JH
will this make a good glove for a high school outfielder? jr
Yes, the 12.75 and the modified trap web is perfect for outfield play.
Mark
My son is a 15 year old center fielder with large hands. Is this a good glove for him to use all the way to college? dan
Since the Mizuno Classic Pro Soft Series: GCP79S is a 12.75" model, it is typically better suited for an outfielder. Most infielders prefer gloves around the 11.00-11.50 inch range.
Jennifer
Is the pocket on this glove deep enough for adult mens slowpitch softball? I play 2B/3B/OF. 4galbucket
At 12.75" with a modified trapeze web, the Mizuno Classic Pro Soft Series: GCP79S is a great option for a utility player in slow pitch softball.
Tyler
Will you get in any more right hand models soon? How about demo models? Ute dad
We don't expect to get anymore of the Mizuno GCP79S in the right hand thrower. The options live on our website is what we currently have in inventory.
Aubrey
I want to order a right hand thrower but they are out of stock, what do I do? David
We can notify you when we have more Mizuno Classic Pro Soft Series: GCP79S in the right hand thrower. Contact our customer service team at 1-866-380-4568.
Aubrey
Can this glove also be used for pitching? Joe
I recommend checking with your coach or league director. Glove rules vary by league, and some do not allow pitchers to use two-tone gloves like the Mizuno Classic Pro Soft Series: GCP79S.
Tyler
Is the pro soft leather a lot higher quality leather than the MVP SE Prime Series? Trying to decide between 12.75 MVP Prime SE or 12.75 Pro Soft Series. ryan
The Mizuno Classic Pro Soft Series: GCP79S is made of slightly higher quality leather than the Mizuno MVP Prime SE Series. It will be softer leather and has extra padding.
Kara
Our son is paying 12u travel, mostly as a pitcher & outfielder. He is big or his age, 5'5", w/ medium size hands (slightly long fingers though). Not sure if we should go w/ the youth version (GCP 70f) or this version? Mm
If he is above average in size, and if you are looking for a glove he can get more than one season of use out of, I would not recommend a youth model. A full-sized model will be a better option for him.
Tyler
Beside price how would you compare the GCP79S and the new GMP700? Are they similar in feel? I have been Mizuno glove fan for a long time but don't know how to compare these two. No stores seem to carry either in my area. Rick
Price is the best indicator of quality and durability. The Pro Limited Edition Series is made with higher quality leather that will be much stiffer, and more durable than the Classic Pro Soft Series.
Tyler
Will you be getting any more right handed throwers of the GCP79S in stock? Jarred
We are expecting to receive more of the Mizuno Classic Pro Soft Series: GCP79S in the right handed thrower model sometime soon.
Marcus
How is this glove compared to a Rawlings Heart of the Hide or Pro Preferred? Tim
The Mizuno Classic Pro Soft Series: GCP79S is softer and less durable than the Rawlings Heart of the Hide or Pro Preferred. It will require very little break-in and be game ready.
Frank
Just received this glove from you. I'm concerned with the "throwback style leather". I previously purchased a Shoeless Joe model which stained significantly when I used glove oil. Will this glove stain as well because of the leather type? Noel
The aging process for the leather used on the Mizuno Classic Pro Soft Series: GCP79S is different from the process Shoeless Joe utilizes. When using glove oil, the Mizuno Classic Pro Soft Series: GCP79S will not stain nearly as much as a Shoeless Joe glove.
Tyler
Is this glove higher quality than the Rawlings Gamer XLE? Is this the right size for a 5'3 13 year old? heat man 27
The Mizuno Classic Pro Soft Series: GCP79S and the Rawlings Gamer XLE are both high quality gloves. They will both be durable. We usually recommend a 12.50" for an outfielder and an 11.25" to a 11.50" for an infielder.
Kara
I'm 14 and 135 lbs. I have used a glove in the pro soft in the past in a 12". I am primarily a catcher but I occasionally play outfield. Would a 12.75" be sufficient moving forward or should I stay with the 12", what I am accustomed to? TCABaller14
Based on your age and position, we suggest moving up to a 12.50" model or a 12.75" model. The Mizuno Classic Pro Soft Series (GCP79S) is an excellent 12.75" outfielders glove.
Jason
My Son is 14 years old and approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall. He plays primarily outfield and pitcher. We are looking to upgrade his mitt and we are not sure if we should go with the Mizuno Classic Pro Soft Series: GCP79S, or the Youth version (Mizuno Classic Pro Soft Future Series: GCP70F Youth). Any suggestions? Rich
Given your son's age and the height you listed, we would recommend the adult version of the Mizuno Classic Pro Soft Series (GCP79S). The Mizuno Classic Pro Soft Future Series (GCP70F) Youth model is intended for younger players with smaller hands. It features smaller finger stalls and a smaller wrist opening. The youth model would likely not fit your son's hand.
Patrick
Why has this glove been discontinued? Tribemom37
Mizuno still has the Mizuno Classic Pro Soft Series, just not in this particular model. The Mizuno Classic Pro Soft Series (GCP79S) is an older model.
