For over a century, Louisville Slugger has been making quality baseball equipment for all ages and skill levels. This season, Louisville Slugger introduces a series of gloves designed for the player who is crossing over from youth baseball to more competitive levels. The Omaha Select Series is perfect for players that have outgrown their youth mitts but still aren't varsity level players. That doesn't mean they have to sacrifice any quality though. These gloves are made in professional patterns using lightweight, oil-treated cowhide leather that gives players a superior feel and fit. With dye-through lacing, these gloves are as durable as they are comfortable. Inside the glove, players will find Bruise-Gard Padding that protects the hand against sting and promotes confident catching. All of the gloves in the Omaha Select Series feature a conventional open back and professional-style web designs for outstanding control in the field, on the mound, or behind the plate! Pros: For those of you looking for that hard to find, in between sized mitt for your 9-12 year old, this is the one. I have always had good luck with Louisville Slugger gloves and this one does not dissappoint. The quality thick leather, plenty of padding, ajustable wrist strap, and flexing in the right places makes this mitt a GREAT choice. This was my first purchase from Ball Glove Warehouse and I could not be any more pleased. After canceling an order with a competitor who said it would take 6 WEEKS, I placed the order at 8:30 P.M. on a Monday night, got free shipping, and the glove was at my home by 3:00 P.M. Tuesday, the next day. WOW! Great product, great service. I highly recommend.

Cons: Not really a con, but the glove needs a little breaking in, however, I find high quality gloves do.

Pros: Excellent 1st base mitt for younger players. Padding is great and quality of leather is well above price range like other models in the Omaha Select series.

Cons: Only negative would be a little stiff out of the box and slow to break in. Some routine catches were popping out in practice but not since fully broken in. Just maybe hold off on game use until fully broken in.

Pros: Just recieved this glove today for my son. I must say, I am impressed. The quality, fit and finish of the glove is just what I have come to expect from Louisville Slugger. It appears that it shouldn't take too long to break it in, which we're going to start this afternoon! Thanks justballgloves!

Pros: This glove has worked very well for my 10 yo son. He is 4'10" and weighs 100 lbs. He plays an age level above his own. He liked this glove immediately so next to no break-in time. He likes the color since it's different from other gloves. His coaches have called him "Magnet Hand" since not many balls get by him while using this glove. His confidence has increased. This glove has been very durable and seems like it will last awhile. Recommend highly and would purchase again.

Cons: None so far

Actually, the one you picked here is a great glove. It's a good size, has the extra padding, adjustable wrist strap and is lightweight. Keep in mind our 100 day guarantee if he doesn't like the way it fits.

My son is 9yrs old, playing 1st base for a competative team. He is about 4'9" and weighting about 108lb. I am looking for a 1st base glove that is good leather, straps at the wrist and I can customize color, do you have any suggestions? Please advise. David
The Louisville Slugger TPX Omaha Select Series is an adult glove and will be too large for a nine year old. We suggest a 11.50" to 12.00" youth glove. We are unable to customize the color of the gloves.

Is this a good glove for a high school player? mykel
Yes the Louisville Slugger TPX Omaha Select Series: OSLFB would work very well for a high school player. He could also use a 12.50 or 12.75 inch first base. Here is a link to look at those. http://www.justballgloves.com/products/sub%20type~first%20base/size~12.50/ http://www.justballgloves.com/products/sub%20type~first%20base/size~12.75/

I like the look of this glove. My son is 12 year old lefty, so he will spend significant time at 1st base, but I want a glove that I don't have to replace every year due to him growing out of it. He is 5'1", and weighs 100 lbs. Would this be a good size for him to play middle school ball as well as to finish up his last season of Cal Ripken? Mike
Yes the Louisville Slugger TPX Omaha Select Series: OSLFB is a 12.25" model which will work well through middle school. When he is older you could look at 12.50" or 13" models.
Tom

About the Brand

In 1842, J. Frederick Hillerich emigrated with his family from Baden-Baden, Germany to the United States. Eight years before, the 1834 Book of Sports had made its debut as the nation's first publication covering baseball. But when he arrived in Baltimore, J. Frederick Hillerich would never have dreamed of the future impact his family would have on America's favorite pastime.

After a short while, the Hillerichs moved to Louisville, where J. Fred started a woodworking shop in 1856. Two of his sons, Adam and John Andrew "Bud" were born in the United States and would later join their father in his business. By 1864 "J.F. Hillerich, Job Turning" was in operation and filled orders for businesses by custom-turning everything from balusters to bedposts.

The firm thrived, and by 1875 the little woodworking shop employed about 20 people. In 1880 Bud Hillerich, who was an amateur baseball player, became an apprentice in his father's shop. Young Bud made his own baseball bats along with bats for several of his teammates.

The debate over the origins of the first bat continues to generate controversy among baseball enthusiasts, but the younger Hillerich was most certainly involved in getting his father's business involved with what would become the company's signature item. According to company legend, the first bat was turned by Bud for Pete "The Old Gladiator" Browning in 1884. Browning was a star on Louisville's professional American Association team - the Eclipse. On a spring afternoon Bud, then seventeen, witnessed Browning break his favorite bat. Bud offered to make a bat for his hero, and Browning accepted. After the young wood shop apprentice lathed a quality stick from white ash, according to the story, Browning got three hits with it in the next game.

Louisville Slugger gloves are worn by more pitchers in Major League Baseball than any other glove.
