Pros: I bought this mitt because i was in a tight budget, but the quality of this mitt impressed me. The leather is thick steer hide and stiff out of the box. The pro style webbing and shaping are a plus and the velcro wrist is adjustable to where my hand is comfortable. The pop is great and the pocket is perfect to where it's not to deep and not too shallow.Transferring from mitt to hand is smooth. It broke in after several bullpen sessions and game ready after a week or two. Highly recommend this to anyone from all level of baseball.

Cons: on a small side for a catchers mitt. But once broken in you can hardly feel any pain from moving fastballs.

Is this glove trustworthy? I've been having problems with catchers mitts lately. I catch for kids that throw low 80's, would this glove be a good choice? Does it keep its shape? Drew E
The Louisville Slugger Omaha Pro Series: (FGOP14-BNCM1) will incorporate professional steer hide leather and will be fairly stiff. This model will have very impressive Palm Padding, and Bruise-Gard padding to help reduce sting. It will be high quality and should work well for what the type of play you are encountering. This model should not provide many problems, it has been quite popular, and should keep its shape as well.

After reading reviews and descriptions I really like what this glove has to offer. However, I'm concerned that it maybe to heavy for my son. Do you know the weight on it by chance? Kevin M
The Louisville Slugger Omaha Pro Series (FGOP14-BNCM1) Catcher's Mitt weighs approximately 1.3 lbs.

My son is 11 years old, 4'8" and 110 lbs and on the small size when it comes to hands. Is this glove too large for him to handle? boomer
The Louisville Slugger Omaha Pro Series (FGOP14-BNCM1) Catcher's Mitt will likely be a little too large for your son. Another model that you could definitely consider would be the Easton Natural Youth Series (NATY2000 Catcher's Mitt) which will have smaller finger stalls and a much more narrow wrist opening than the Omaha Pro Series.

My son is 10 years old, I am looking for a good catchers mit. Will this model work? Amanda
The Louisville Slugger Omaha Pro Series (FGOP14-BNCM1) Catcher's Mitt will likely be a little too large for your son. The Louisville Slugger Omaha Pro Series is designed to fit more of an adult size hand. I would recommend finding a glove that has smaller finger stalls and fits a little tighter around the wrist. I would take a look at the Rawlings Gamer Pro Taper Series (GCMPT), Easton Natural Youth Series (NATY2000), and the Akadema Prodigy Series (AGC98-12).

About the Brand

In 1842, J. Frederick Hillerich emigrated with his family from Baden-Baden, Germany to the United States. Eight years before, the 1834 Book of Sports had made its debut as the nation's first publication covering baseball. But when he arrived in Baltimore, J. Frederick Hillerich would never have dreamed of the future impact his family would have on America's favorite pastime.

After a short while, the Hillerichs moved to Louisville, where J. Fred started a woodworking shop in 1856. Two of his sons, Adam and John Andrew "Bud" were born in the United States and would later join their father in his business. By 1864 "J.F. Hillerich, Job Turning" was in operation and filled orders for businesses by custom-turning everything from balusters to bedposts.

The firm thrived, and by 1875 the little woodworking shop employed about 20 people. In 1880 Bud Hillerich, who was an amateur baseball player, became an apprentice in his father's shop. Young Bud made his own baseball bats along with bats for several of his teammates.

The debate over the origins of the first bat continues to generate controversy among baseball enthusiasts, but the younger Hillerich was most certainly involved in getting his father's business involved with what would become the company's signature item. According to company legend, the first bat was turned by Bud for Pete "The Old Gladiator" Browning in 1884. Browning was a star on Louisville's professional American Association team - the Eclipse. On a spring afternoon Bud, then seventeen, witnessed Browning break his favorite bat. Bud offered to make a bat for his hero, and Browning accepted. After the young wood shop apprentice lathed a quality stick from white ash, according to the story, Browning got three hits with it in the next game.

Louisville Slugger gloves are worn by more pitchers in Major League Baseball than any other glove.
