Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Louisville Slugger Dynasty Series: FGDY14-BKFBM First Base? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

Would you recommend using this glove for a men's adult slow pitch league? Jfrantz
The Louisville Slugger Dynasty Series: FGDY14-BKFBM would be a good choice for a Slow Pitch Softball first base mitt. Although it's a baseball model, the 13.00" pattern size would help accommodate the larger size of the softball in the pocket. Many first basemen convert their larger pattern size baseball first base mitts into their Slow Pitch mitt.
Mac
Would you recommend this glove for a high school baseball player? Jacob
This glove will have true to size finger and wrist stalls, so it will be suitable for a high school player. Leather durability is directly related to the price of the glove, so the more expensive the glove the more durable the leather will be.
Tori
Would this work for a decent size 12 year old? He is 5'2", and 100 lbs.? Is the leather comparable with the $75-$100 gloves? baller
The Louisville Slugger Dynasty Series (FGDY14-BKFBM First Base) would have a very soft type of leather. It would not take long to break-in. The 13" sizing may be a little large for the typical 12 year old. It would compete with some of the other models in that price range.
Brandon
Would this glove be good for a 5'5'', 120 lbs. 13 year old? for days
Yes, the Louisville Slugger Dynasty Series (FGDY14-BKFBM First Base) could work for 13 year old at your size. The 13" size may feel large if you have undersized hands and wrists. A 12.50" mitt would also be recommended.
Brandon
Does this glove only come for left handed throwers? Hmed1224
The Louisville Slugger Dynasty Series (FGDY1-BKFBM) First Base glove was produced in a right hand throw as well. We have sold out of the right hand throw and will not be receiving anymore back in stock as this model has been discontinued by Louisville Slugger.

About the Brand

In 1842, J. Frederick Hillerich emigrated with his family from Baden-Baden, Germany to the United States. Eight years before, the 1834 Book of Sports had made its debut as the nation's first publication covering baseball. But when he arrived in Baltimore, J. Frederick Hillerich would never have dreamed of the future impact his family would have on America's favorite pastime.

After a short while, the Hillerichs moved to Louisville, where J. Fred started a woodworking shop in 1856. Two of his sons, Adam and John Andrew "Bud" were born in the United States and would later join their father in his business. By 1864 "J.F. Hillerich, Job Turning" was in operation and filled orders for businesses by custom-turning everything from balusters to bedposts.

The firm thrived, and by 1875 the little woodworking shop employed about 20 people. In 1880 Bud Hillerich, who was an amateur baseball player, became an apprentice in his father's shop. Young Bud made his own baseball bats along with bats for several of his teammates.

The debate over the origins of the first bat continues to generate controversy among baseball enthusiasts, but the younger Hillerich was most certainly involved in getting his father's business involved with what would become the company's signature item. According to company legend, the first bat was turned by Bud for Pete "The Old Gladiator" Browning in 1884. Browning was a star on Louisville's professional American Association team - the Eclipse. On a spring afternoon Bud, then seventeen, witnessed Browning break his favorite bat. Bud offered to make a bat for his hero, and Browning accepted. After the young wood shop apprentice lathed a quality stick from white ash, according to the story, Browning got three hits with it in the next game.

Louisville Slugger gloves are worn by more pitchers in Major League Baseball than any other glove.
