Questions and Answers

Have a question about the Akadema Rookie Series 11" Youth Baseball Glove: AJT99? Ask our team of experts and they will respond within 24 hours.

My 6 year old playing coach pitch needs new glove. Currently using Rawllings 11.0 with no problems. Does this one have the smaller finger holes? Thinking of switching to Akadema if it's made specially for the younger fingers. Tyler
Yes, this glove is going to have the smaller hand and finger stalls. All youth gloves are going to have the smaller hand and finger stalls compared to the adult gloves. This would be a great glove.
Todd
My son is 4 and he is left-handed. He plays 1st base for his team and his 10" glove and the web is too small. I am looking for a glove that will be easy for him to squeeze and has a bigger pocket because he is now catching balls in the air. I tried a Vinci 11" and it seemed a bit big. Is this the glove he needs? BGP
If the 10" glove is too small, I would recommend he use a 10.5" glove. A 11" is going to be too big for his age.
Kara
We are looking for a top quality 11 inch glove for our 10 year old son. He is a serious player and we don't want something flimsy. Can you recommend any models? Dave
This glove may get flimsy quicker. If you are looking for a very quality youth glove I would check out Wilson or Mizuno.
KG
I have a 9 year old who plays infield for the rec league and outfield for travel. I am looking for an 11" glove for him. A lot of what I see are tagged youth but real heavy for his age. What do you think of this Akadema? Are there other gloves you'd recommend that are comfortable for a young player? tony
This Akadema glove is lightweight and break in easily. The other Akadema to look at is the AZR95-12, it is also lightweight.
Linda
My son is 7 and is playing in the minors. He currently is using a 10 inch glove the coach says he needs a bigger glove so I was wondering what size to get him? I want an Akadema glove. Papa
Based on his age, a glove around 11 or 11.5 inches is recommended. If you want a little more room for him to grow in to, I would recommend an 11.5 inch model. Check out model AJT99 (which you're looking at) or model ABH99 (11.5 inch model)
Tyler
My son is 8. He plays shortstop, pitcher and 2nd base on his Little League team, fall league team and a traveling team and probably plays 65 plus games a year. He had a Mizuno 10.5 and it has worn out in one season. He is on the small side so i think it should have a wrist strap. What is the best 11 inch glove for him that would not be flimsy and worn out and last at least one season? Ryan
Gloves are pretty easy... The higher the price, the higher the quality, and the more durable a glove will be. The highest quality youth gloves in an 11" model are the Rawlings Gold Glove Gamer Pro Taper Series: GG1102G, and Akadema Prodigy Series: AZR95-12. However, these two models do not have a wrist strap. The highest quality youth glove in an 11" model with a wrist strap is this glove, the Akadema Rookie Series: AJT99. It holds it's shape very well and is very popular among players around 7-10 years old.
Tyler
I have a 9-year-old Little Leaguer that has been an infielder (primarily short stop and third base with a little second and first); but he will move up into a new division this spring, so he could move into the outfield. I don"t want to break the bank, but I want a decent glove. What size and web-type is recommended? jr
The Akadema Rookie Series: AJT99 Youth is designed for an infielder. We recommend an 11.50" glove. The Akadema Bryce Harper Rookie Series: ABH99 Youth is a great choice. The H-Web can be used in the outfield as well.
Kara
What are the ages for "youth"? Is 18 still in youth or what glove is good for a 18 year old shortstop? Bob
The Akadema Rookie Series: AJT99 Youth is designed for players approximately 12 years old and younger. The Akadema Pro Soft Series: AMV218 would be a more appropriate model for a 18 year old middle infielder.
Katie
My son is about to be 9, he is a little on the small side only about 4'1", mostly plays outfield. Which glove would be a better option the AJT99 or the Prodiy AZR95-12? Also, when will you get the right hand throw in stock? Jose
The Akadema Prodigy Series (AZR95) is a better option for a smaller player. The finger stalls are smaller and more narrow. The Akadema Rookie Series (AJT99) has been discontinued and we will not receive more inventory.
Kara
My son is turning 7. He plays in 3 different leagues. He is 49" tall and weighs 63 lbs. He plays third and first. What would be the best glove for him? D
Based on his age and positions, we suggest a 10.50" or 11" glove. The Akadema Rookie Series (AJT99) Youth is an excellent glove for player who plays multiple positions.
Jason
Suggestions for an 8 year old girl playing fastpitch softball. Are youth baseball gloves comparable to youth softball gloves? She is on the smaller side for her age. I was thinking of 11.00" glove. She has a 10.00" which seems to a little small. Which brands and models would you suggest? tav
The Akadema Rookie Series (AJT99) doesn't have a large enough pocket for fastpitch softball. We recommend an 11.00" youth fastpitch glove for her. Here is a link to the gloves available: http://www.justballgloves.com/products/size~11.00/glove%20type~female%20fastpitch/
Kara
My son is 7 and plays first base. Which is best glove for him? He throws left handed. He uses a 11 inch glove now. Suggestions? Guzza
The Akadema Rookie Series (AJT99) would be a great model for your player with good quality leather and a nice deep pocket that could be used for first base. If you wanted a first base mitt, I would suggest checking out the Akadema Prodigy Series (AHC94-12) Youth First Base Mitt.
Patrick
My son will be 8 (11/27/14) and has been using a 10.75" glove since he was 5 (both of his brothers used the same glove, so well broken in). He is starting select baseball this winter, he's 53" tall and weighs 65 lbs. He will primarily be an infielder and pitcher and just making sure this glove will be a possible good fit for him. Juice
For 8 year old infielders/pitchers we recommend a 10 inch pattern. The Akadema Rookie Series: AJT99 Youth is a 11 inch pattern so if you want a glove that he can grow into it would be a perfect choice.
Ryan
My daughter is almost 5 and is beginning tee ball. She catches and throws very well. I wanted a quality glove that she could use for a while. Would you recommend the Akadema AJT99 or the Wilson A450 Pedroia glove? Eli
At age 5, I would recommend a smaller glove size. The Wilson Advisory Staff Series (WTA04RB15DP15 Dustin Pedroia Model) would be a better fit at 10.75". It still may be too large for her. I would also check out the Shoeless Joe Joe Junior Series (1000JR Youth). It may be a much better fit. The leather will be of a higher quality, with better durability also.
Brandon
How does this glove compare to a Mizuno Prospect? My 7 year old is playing travel ball and his coach said he needs a bigger glove than his current 10". smalls
The Akadema Rookie Series: AJT99 Youth and the Mizuno Prospect Series are both popular youth models and are very similar in construction. Some differences are that the Akadema is made of durable U.S. steerhide leather, and the Mizuno features a palm pad and PowerClose technology that makes the glove easier to close for younger players. Our general recommendation for a 7 year old player is a 10" or 10.5" glove, however he can certainly move up to an 11" glove as well.
Angelique
What glove would you recommend for a 12 year old? He is left handed. shorty
The Akadema Rookie Series (AJT99) Youth would be a great option for your 12 year old son if he primarily played infield. If he primarily played outfield I would recommend taking a look at the Akadema Prodigy Series (ARC88) Youth.
Carter
What size glove would you recommend for a 9 year old who is about 4'7"? He plays AAU baseball, usually in the outfield but sometimes at second base. Jack
Based on the players age I would recommend an 11" model.
Linsey
Is there a big difference between this glove and the Marucci RS225 11''? Josh
Both the Akadema Rookie Series Youth Baseball Glove: AJT99 and the Marucci RS225 will be very comparable. The biggest differences are the leather on the back of the Akadema that helps to reduce weight and the Marucci having slightly more durable leather.
Tori
I'm shopping for my 6 year old who will be playing 8u baseball this fall. He currently has a cheap Adidas glove and I would like to get him something better. I would like a high quality glove that will last him for a few years. Would this or the AOZ91-12 be a good option? chadwic346
At 6 years of age, the 11" size may be a bit large currently, but if you're looking for a glove that will last him a few years, the Akadema Rookie Series Youth Baseball Glove: AJT99 would certainly provide that for you and be the right size in a season or two. I think the Akadema Prodigy Series Youth Baseball Glove: AOZ91-12 would be a bit large for him, and may wear out before he actually grows into it.

About the Brand

In Akadema's short but remarkable history it has become one of America's hottest baseball and softball equipment company for professional, college, high school, and serious youth players. The Akadema phenomenon started with the Professional Glove Series and continues with the Reptilian®, Praying Mantis®, Pro Soft™ and Prodigy™ Glove Series as well as the Amish Wood™, Tacktion™ and Xtension® Aluminum Bat Series. Akadema's ownership attributes increasing market share to their innovative professional baseball and softball product line in contrast to mass-produced products that have little to do with quality, feel, or design to raise the level of play.

Akadema's products are manufactured for professional players but are now accessible to semi pro, college, high school, and serious youth players. Akadema products are still designed with the professional player in mind but competitively priced for the professional player at heart. So it's your turn to think like a professional, play like a professional, and use Akadema Professional!

Akadema now has both baseball and fastpitch softball advisory staffs that they work with closely to implement new ideas. Members of the baseball advisory staff include Hall of Famers Ozzie Smith and Gary Carter as well as Howard Johnson, Reggie Smith, Luis Polonia, Sandy Martinez and many others. Fastpitch stars that are on the advisory staff include Crystl Bustos and Julie Smith. The input on performance from the advisory staff gives Akadema something they cannot put a price on. Their advisors don’t talk about marketing or places to sell the gloves, they just care about performance.
